I personally love the reverb/delay, and everyone who doesn't can be quiet. Tom doesn't need to do these FREE videos and content. He is doing them for his pleasure and especially ours. So sit back, enjoy, and shut up about it.

Sometime around 1980 my older brother Tony bought a CS15 (model without the presets) secondhand. My first introduction to synthesis (I was about 13 at the time), it sounded awesome. Since then been a bit of a keyboard & techno junkie too. Listening to these Yams it's really evocative of that time in my life. Awesome vids Junkie, keep it up! PS absolutely love the gorgeous reverb, wish we'd had access to effects like that with the CS15 back in the day.

Those were the glory days for Yamaha! I had a cs 60 for four years but it did not travel well. But the high pass filter was crazy and very slight movments contained lots of hamonic overtones. And the presets were all great starting points. Peace christo

@moog Dome the bigger ones are really heavy and awkward shaped, plus the flight case is big and heavy and adds to the weight. I recently had to lift a Yamaha SK30 up two flights of stairs on my own. It's the same size and weight of the Yamaha CS70m and looks similar as well.

This is a great video! I have a CS70m, CS30 and a SK30 and I really love the Yamaha analog sound. The cs30 sequencer is just the best for creating insane sounds and the cs70 sequencer is my favorite scratchpad for just trying out building ambiences and patches. Someday I'll get an 80 as well :)

The "crack" is usually caused by oxidation, which happens on that era electronics when certain potentiometers (volume, pan) are not used for a prolonged period of time. Usually the simplest fix is just take a graphite pencil and cover the contact area on potentiometer with graphite. Sometimes, fast knob twiddeling also helps. This issue is not caused by abuse, but underuse.
@junkiexlofficial
@junkiexlofficial 7 жыл бұрын
correct! Usually when its on for a few hours while turning knobs it disappears. Its always 22 catch. Do I leave them on all the time during a project? ( caps can dry out or overheating) or do I switch them on only for use?( tuning takes a while and knobs might be cracky)

In the mid 80's had a CS70m, not bad, did layering and split at the same time! Nice, but lack of control for both oscillators 1 & 2 was its weakness not only that but impossible to follow the CS80 and didnt sell well. Loved the sequencer in it though. Pre MIDI and weighed a ton, sold it and bought a new D50 in 1987 I still have.

Well - you've officially ruined me :). I had no idea about the vastness or quality of the Yamaha analogue range beyond the CS80 (I am one of those Blade Runner obsessives). Then I stumbled upon this vid, and ended up buying a CS15D, then a CS20M, then just this week an SK30... That sound just has no equivalent. There's a lot of Roland here, one Oberheim and one Moog, but the CS's are something else entirely. So thank you for the discovery (but no thank you for the hole in my bank account ;P). Your vids are just as great as your music. Question for you : with the above kit (CS15D / CS20M / SK30, all like new) is it worth hunting for a CS70M ?
@janvesely6353
@janvesely6353 6 жыл бұрын
Got CS-15D and CS-40m, I would say they are really complementary to others, such as Moog, Oberheim, Prophet, that I can compare, with their distinctive sounds. Some people noted there is perhaps too much reverb on CS15 /40 demo - I agree, but it also shows that these machines, imo, are very 'effectable' and perhaps especially CS-15D sound can take a ton of effects and still get even better and keeps its character, which is often not a case, as some otherwise powerful synths are easily over-effected and then sound becomes somehow messy. But maybe it's just my personal perception :)

The CS15D always seems to sound better in videos than the CS15. But everyone says the CS15 is much better than the preset-based CS15D. But that's not what my ears tell me. Can the CS15 make every sound the CS15D does? Is there anything about the CS15D that makes the sound unique compared to the more programmable CS15?

Heyyyy, you didnt cover the most unique & interesting part of the CS40m! You can have the LFO trigger the ADSR & basically shape your own waveform. Pretty fun when playing manually. Sad thing is, the EG is disabled when playing it via CV but you sample everything anyway so it shouldn't be a problem.
