This is why I prefer Alamo. I can't drive the 3,000 miles to test play the guitar that I want to purchase. I put my trust in Chris, Cooper and my salesman Jon to throughly inspect, play and maybe even do a video with it. The videos are especially nice and informative. Thanks.

I bought my first of four guitars from Alamo on the day I left Texas. I dealt with Cooper and two other Alamo staff. Everyone was very helpful. Cooper even offered to keep it in the box. I no longer live in Texas but I would still order from Alamo.

I like that about Yamaha guitars - you could walk right past them in the shop because they are so understated. It’s only when you get up close and start playing it that you see the incredible fine finish and detailing, the quality components, and of course they also tend to sound as good as their far more expensive competition.

I love the story on how they researched and developed this guitar between american and Japanese luthiers and players..a lot of new techniques bolt on and glued at the same time different thicknesses in the top for better volume like a speaker . Crisp sweet piano like highs, powerful clean clear midrange, and deep rich powerful non boomy bass. Each note is separate and distinct in the chord, yet harmonizes effortlessly with the other notes, that's hard to pull off. I would love to see a martin taylor yamaha shootout in this price range. The good thing is this technology will trickle down to the lower cost guitars over time. Not as good but close for us with not much money.

Seems Yamaha is a very solid choice no matter if it’s made in China or Japan. My Yamaha FG840 sounds really good, but it comes nowhere close to this beast. Wow. I hope this model doesnt stay limited for long and that they can keep this guitar in some steady production. This is definitely a guitar i would consider. Now, if they would only make a 12 string guitar.......I guarentee a FG9-12 would compete with the Guild F512. Is there any difference between this and the FG5 apart from it being adirondack? This is over two grand more. I mean come on. Fender, Gibson and Martin are bordering on price gouging and now Yamaha too?

This guitar is hand made top quality everything, with the finest craftsmanship and quality control. If it was a martin or other(inferior quality American) guitar it would be costing quite a few thousand more for some inexplicable reason. This is a lifetime guitar, and I dream of owning one!

@Mark High I dont doubt anything you're saying at all but my point is that the Yamaha FG5 is also an extremely high quality guitar with what seem to be virtually identical specifications save for a few, like the adirondack top, but 2.3k more seems very excessive

@@teodelnorte FG5 is still like a high quality factory made guitar, like Martin D28, while this guitar is in the luthier made guitar , thus the hefty price tag. This guitar will not be available in high number , Cooper said in the video that it is very hard for them to have the Mahogany version to show with this one

@@teodelnorteI've had my FGX5 for a couple of years now. Bought it w/o playing it when they were $1200. It's turned out to be a very good decision. There sound is very well balanced with and clear mid range and an excellent guitar. I've played with J-45's and and we thought the FGX5 was a nice complement to the J-45. I'd guess it would be somewhat the same with a D-18. The one thing I did notice though was that my FGX5 isn't quite as rich and deep in tone as the J-45. IMO you can't beat the price of the FG5's for the quality you get.

These are certainly wonderful guitars, but I feel like the big problem is the price. Aesthetically and aurally, this undoubtedly competes with the D28, but the price suggests otherwise. It sits between the D35 and the D41, and in that space, the FG9 lacks quite a bit. Not only is the FG9 aesthetically inferior, but it lacks the heritage, which I feel might make it a difficult sell over the D35, D41, and maybe even the Gibson Songwriter or the Guild D55 among others. All of those guitars are better appointed, and have a better brand reputation in the high-end acoustic market. If they brought down the price to the $3000-$3500 range, then I feel Martin, Gibson, and Guild would have some seriously strong competition.

It is a matter of taste. The Yamaha has wood binding, tastefull and understated woorden fret markers and a high class workmanship. I personally do not like the abalone bling of for instance a D45. The Yamaha is more in line with a boutique guitar like a Collings D1 or D2, also in how it is made, but at a lower price. Each its own however.
@Jkaterchannel
@Jkaterchannel Жыл бұрын
You didn't come close to it if you say it is esthetically inferior to a dreadnought with plastic binding and dot inlay. A D-28 is a fine guitar but I'm pretty sure it is slightly inferior in many ways to a FG9 made by the finest japanese luthiers at Yamaha. Dollar for dollar, it's even less of a contest
@JackTheRabbitMusic

Comparing these to a Martin is a fools errand. The correct way to view these amazing instruments is more along the lines of a true boutique guitar. Collings, Bourgeois, Maestro, Boucher, etc...
@Jkaterchannel
@Jkaterchannel Жыл бұрын
@@JackTheRabbitMusic Very true. The mid-priced Martins like the d-28 have a run-of-the-mill feel to them albeit very well made. the FG9, LL56 and such top end hand made Yamahas acoustics are built painstakingly by world class luthiers with extremely low tolerances and with grades of material few can procure as well as Yamaha’s gigantic power of purchase. Even new high end Martins don’t have Adirondack Spruce top anymore (I checked). I think especially the lutherie is at the level of Collings, Larrivées, Bourgeois and the like.
@Emberesque

@@Jkaterchannel Let me clarify what I was intending to say. The FG9 is not aesthetically inferior to the D28. I said it was a competitor to the D28 aesthetically, but I will agree with you upon a closer look at the adornments of the FG9 that compared to the D28, the FG9, although understated, is actually fancier for sure, but it's price also reflects that. Therefor, I think it's market position is more in the D35 and D41 area, and it's in that realm that I believe the FG9 is aesthetically inferior.
