Nice job Phil ! I Love my 22 FJR. I am really disappointed they discontinued it. Recently rode the tracer at a demo day and it is no FJR. I rode the Super Tenere also and I prefer that over the tracer as well. The XSR 900 was a blast to ride. That bike really surprised me.

I am a Yamaha fan. Currently have a 2016 FJR ES. 2014 R1, and a 2011 VMax. I have owned many other Yamahas in the past. They just haven’t made anything recently to get me into the showroom. How about a new FJR with a state of the art electronics package or a new Tenere with a smooth 1200 triple and state of the art electronics. Same feelings toward Honda. Not a Suzuki Or Kawasaki fan but they are surpassing Yamaha and Honda. My last couple of bikes were BMWs and KTMs. Have not experienced any reliability issues with either brand. When Yamaha and Yamaha steep up their program I’ll be back.

That's because the old versions were Tracer 9 GT or GT+ with more options on them than this more basic Tracer 9. In the US, we did not get the tracer 9 before, only the GT and GT+- I know because I was considering one, but the GT+ that I could get was pricier than the Tiger 900GT. I ended up buying the Tiger 900 GT instead, but always liked the Tracer a bit better, but it was about 2K more. My tiger already has heated grips though.

I find it interesting that in the touring category they only have the Tracer 9 for significantly less money that last years GT+. If I understand correctly, last years version has the fancy electronically adjustable suspension, radar cruise control and whatnot. Could this be because they have a significant inventory of unsold 2024 machines? I live in Alberta Canada and my local Yamaha dealers don't seem to have many of the Tracers sitting on their showroom floors. There are two Harley dealers here and one of them is sitting on a rather large inventory of very expensive 2023 and 2024 models. I'm retired and during the summer I do 300 km trips for lunch once or twice a week. The only Japanese touring bikes I regularly see in the wild are Goldwings. Otherwise at least %50 of what I see are the large HD touring models. Perhaps I'm getting a skewed picture of bike ownership though. The majority of bike owners probably have jobs and don't have the luxury of riding hundreds of kilometers for a soup and sandwich on a Tuesday. What I see on the highways may not match up with what is sitting in peoples garages.
@michaelskinner89629 күн бұрын
True, it may not. But, in the US (at least in the SW) about all I see on the roads are the big HD cruisers as well. In Phoenix, it's about 70% HD's and 30% sport crotch rockets. On rare occasions I'll see some sort of dual-sport, or GS. I don't know about the rest of the US with respect to bike choice, but I suspect that it's just about as monolithic as Phoenix. Kind of sad really. I get upset sometimes when I see how many bikes Europe gets compared to the US, but I can also see perhaps why the manufacturers discontinue models that just don't sell very well here. A shame really. We also don't have any general publicly accessible motorcycle trade show, like EICMA, or Motorcycle Live.
@jimbroen29 күн бұрын
@@michaelskinner896 I read somewhere that Europeans buy a little under 3 million motorcycles a year, Americans under 600,000 a year and Canadians under 60,000 a year. I understand why a manufacturer would choose not to import all their models to Canada when they would only sell a few of the less popular machines. Here it's very common for new bikes from the previous two model years to sit on showroom floors unsold from when they arrived in the country. I do think that our roads are better suited to the large touring machines than most other places in the world so I get why they are so popular. The eight or nine hundred pound touring machine is definitely a North American thing.
@michaelskinner89629 күн бұрын
@@jimbroen True that! I didn't realize that Canada's take rate was only about 60K. I would've thought it was much more than that. Interesting. Maybe the shorter riding season?

@@michaelskinner896 With 10% of America's population, Canadians buy about 10% as many new motorcycles. Like the US, I would venture that most Canadian motorcycle purchases are for recreational purposes. I know several people who own machines that are rarely ridden. The weather doesn't help.

They have great performance and great reliability. But the looks of some of those models are absolutely horrible. Especially the left side of the motors. It's just an unruly mess of wires and cables and hoses and pipes and stuff. It looks like a dog ate a bunch of metal and hoses and cables and threw up all over a motorcycle frame and so the company just spray painted it all black in the hopes no one will notice. Believe me, I noticed. YUK!
