I’m using a Yamaha rx-v890 , 100 watts a channel in the main 2 channel section and the preamp and main amp can also be separated and used stand alone. A lot of low end grunt . Also has a sub out.

Yes this is the way, I am running a high end Denono AV unit from the 90s, it has a phono input, fiber optic and a remote and makes a fantastic both 2 channel and AV unit, one of the best 100 bucks I ever spent.

Village Gate was a famous hall in lower Manhattan. The building still stands commercially but not as a live venue. The hall was large in scale had little reverb and not much echo, it had a controlled sound. A cross between an intimate theater hall and a jazz club.

Thanks for the information, I see the sign is still in place which is nice to see. I do love these old US signs

I just shelved my AVR because the Sansui (au-317) sounded better all round so I found myself just moving the TV sound to the stereo (via the optical output to the DAC) The TV has a sub output so I can still use my sub if I want to.

I’ve not heard many A/V amps that can compete with a dedicated Amplifier. My Pioneer VSX-AX10 wasn’t bad, I used it for home cinema, its intended purpose

Yes I think that is were they work best as an A/V amp

I would have thought you'd compare that to the arcam being the same type of amplifier. how did that go did you replace as caps and what about did you disconnect the power to the other amplifier boards and just have the 2 stereo ? if you're just going to listen for 2-channel stereo then it is worth disconnecting the other boards. and short out your RCA ins only..! not outs! on any amplifier if they're not being used just use an RCA plug and shorted out, cuts down interference greyhounds the preamplifier section of the boards.

I would have done a compare video John, but I sold the Arcam to a friend as he was interested in it as a project, as he liked the amp a lot. But he is a good few miles away from me and would have been a bit of a pain to get it back. I ordered all the parts which I gave to him in the sale, but as of now he still has not started the repair.

(question at the end of my comment) wow I never knew it was from the 90's. The store who sold me this one was bragging about new models & such, HDMI, optical inputs... Then my eyes landed on this model, I asked very casually about that one, the seller said "oh, that's a very old model we just sell it for cheap but I doubt you would..." me: yes I want it ! By any chance, does anyone has the part number of the remote ? I know it's written only on the remote (not on the manual sadfully), and I lost it (yes, pretty huge remote but such an useful one). It's written on the bottom right of the remote. It should look like "VT97430" but it's not that one (or is that one could be compatible ? the manual says yamaha remote IR codes are standard within the brand)
@MichaelYates3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I cant help with the remote number, maybe keep an eye on eBay etc and if one comes up for sale might have a picture of remote control with number or maybe send the seller a question if he could tell you the remote control number

you'll less worry than ever, i've found it buried under a ton of things in my place :') the reference is vt92300 and this remote control can learn functions from other remote controls. and is also compatible with many yamaha devices
