DC Out was a convenience for anyone who was stacking units from this series. Roland made a "Micro Rack" Series of fx units sound 1985 that were half-rack like this box is. The vocal patches were pretty unique on this! Thanks for the demo ;) It sounds a lot like our beloved PortaSounds.

Yeah I think that was a nice touch. Was watching an old video of mine this morning about the Boss Dr Pad and noticed it has the same DC out connection. Cool.

They had jumpers to go from the out of the one with the power source to the input of another one. They also made a separate power source to power like 4 of them, but that may have been the next generation.

Old but still very useable piano sounds .Some nice electric pianos too .I can imagine with some nice lush reverb added the sounds would be improved vastly .

Agreed. As a foundation, the tones are quite expressive I think. It just needs to be paired up with some good effects :)

I had one of these years ago. The nylon guitar had a lovely hollow, wooden sound that could work really well in a mix. The choir was nice, but it needed a lot of delay to hide the loop points, and the piano was quite good too. But they are all twelve bit samples, and they sound like it. The in/out power and audio sockets were there, so you could daisy-chain the unit with others, like the FB1 (FM synth) and the EME1 (12Bit Effects)..

I had one of these back in day. I also had the previous model (can't remember the number). I used them on stage with a Casio Midi guitar. I linked both modules together and had them mounted on my mic stand. I could mix piano and strings by simply sliding the volume controll on both modules to get the mix I wanted. The human voice sound was a bit of a head turner in it's day. The fact they were so simple made it a positive advantage. It's great to hear those sounds again.

Ahh I love hearing about these kind of setups. Those MIDI days were glorious!

Thanks for the demo. I had a Kawai module about the same era, and of very similar size, but it had great sounds and effects.

The emt10 manual talks about doubling and thickening the actual sound while reducing the polyphony by a half. And you can have a keyboard split by pressing for example a Bass and Piano at the same time. Does not work for all combinations. I love the Strings and the Chor for their ' realistic dirty' sound.

The DC out is to daisy chain units together, given you have a power supply with ample milliamperes to spare…

This module won the "Can I sound worse than a U110 rompler?" challenge :) Well... The choir and strings are nice...

Woah! Not saying I disagree, but I'd never dare to criticize the U110 in this neighborhood!

Some great piano sounds. Like the acoustic bass and the slap bass (could do some Little Stevie with that). Also liked the orchestral and the choral sounds. Funny isn’t it that some sounds haven’t been hugely improved on much, whilst others sounds appalling now. Liked the switch from nice guitar sound to pure cheesey part way through 😝 In answer to your recent question ref the channel, I subscribe to a number of synth reviewers and the new breed all review the same stuff which is all about marginal change from existing equipment. It is useful but if you’ve seen one or two you don’t need to see the other 998. I’d rather learn from, laugh ar or admire kit from ‘back in the day’ that helped get us where we are and possibly we may circle back to in the future
