Thank you so much for posting this. It gave me confidence to try it myself where otherwise I would have had to pay a shop. Worked flawlessly on my 04, no breakages or surprises, sometimes it’s a bit fiddly, but I also adopted your approach of taking breaks that really helped.

Nice! I had a V65 too! Put 75,000km on it. Great bike and luckily I didnt have to pull the carbs! Friends said it was tough. Thanks for commenting, liking, and subscribing! Good luck with the job! Make sure to replace those needle jet holder orings!

@@rickscarandbike4834 well i did my carbs yesterday and its covered with green residue and 2 of my diaphram is torn i don't know how it got torn but anyways i bought rebuilt parts online and gaskets for the carbs. Also what i noticed the previous owner installed ivan's stage 2 jet kits. Ounce i get the parts then ill put it back on hopefully that will solve my idling problems. 😀😀🙂

Well i got the carbs back together started thr bike runs good then it dies and its hard to start i think its the float bowl needs attention it idles fine but when i hit the throttle it stutters and wont rev to 10k rpm. I cleaned all the jets the whole carbs and replaces the 4 diaphrams and made sure everything should slides up and down easily. Im going to take the carbs out again and i found the easy way to remove and install the carbs the clamps that is on the intake tube box you can take it off and its easy to slides in the carbs and you can reinstall it easily

@@arisaquino2935 well these bikes should start with just a little throttle and no choke if properly jetted and cleaned up.

I just wanted to let you know, these couple of videos have been invaluable to me. I just successfully removed and reinstalled carbs for the first time thanks to you. I also used pat's FZ1 website cartestsoftware, and the guide on angelfire as text checklist references. For anybody reinstalling them, I would recommend triple checking the bands that hold the boots to the carbs. Mine tended to wander as I tightened them. I'm still not sure they are straight. I also learned I need a longer driver for screw driver bits as I barely made due with a small hex I had. On my '02 the engine side bands had 3mm hex screws so I got lucky they fit. Also if you want to check/clean the air filter since the tank is coming off, you can do a two in one. You can remove the two bolts holding the cross brace (bolts threading into the frame) that the tank is mounted to, instead of the pivot bolt. It's also one less tool to find since it's a 10mm bolt. All in all not too bad for a set of hexes, a 10mm socket wrench, some pliers and gumption. Thanks for making this!
@rickscarandbike48344 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Glad it helped you. Yes the bands do move around and its important to make sure they are in the right place. There are notches to locate them and having some long screwdrivers really help to get them tightened properly. Please subscribe, like, and share these videos as it helps grow the channel and help others. cheers!

I found the best way to seat the carbs into the head and align them was to move the air box forward with a lever.

I watched both video. I see you cleared the jets while connected to the carb. Do you need to remove jets? What about needle set and gaskets inside the carb?

hey Rick, thanks for the detailed instructional videos! Hello from North Van. Are you active on the FZ1OA forum by any chance? also, since the forum is down right now - you might be able to point me in the right direction: my Gen 1 (54k km) has all of a sudden started idling roughly (jumping up and down the revs, 1200-1500), even while warm (started a week ago, before the heat wave). I initially changed the idle knob up slightly from 1100 to 1300 which solved it for a day, but now it's back. I've changed the plugs (usual and equal wear, no signs of fouling), plus adjusted TPS (it was at 10k and I moved it within spec to 5), which didn't solve the problem. what do you think is the next step - throttle body sync? check the pilot screws? I think she's also running slightly rich, because she smells like gas and also burps on closing the throttle and engine braking thank you!
@rickscarandbike48344 жыл бұрын
Thanks for liking, watching, and subscribing! The first gen FZ1s are the best for sport touring applications. Erratic idle is often caused by too much air being drawn into the mix. There are no throttle bodies to synchronize they are found only on gen 2 bikes that have fuel injection. The carbs may need to be synchronized though, but in addition you may have air leaks in the rubber boots attaching the carbs to the airbox and/or to the engine. Check those first. Cheers Hey N. Van!

its on 25k miles
@rickscarandbike48344 жыл бұрын
@@MIRZAKHUD So since it has such low miles I assume no significant engine wear. Did it start running poorly all of a sudden or slowly degrade in performance? You changed the plugs which is great. Likely you should focus on the cylinder that had the carbon fouled plug. Switch the spark plug leads from a known working cylinder (hot exhaust header pipe) to the non working one and recheck pipes. Likely you have a failed spark plug lead. Thanks for your question.

I removed the tank but now I am screwed! The 2 small hoses under the tank, you say it is the vent hose and the drain hose. Now how do I know which is which? And which hose connects to which part of the tank?
