I suppose it boils down to personal preference. Each product/model has its own unique features. The art I recon lies in the ability of the musician to bring these features to life. Considering that the Yamaha Genos was released back on the 2nd of October 2017, it still has an absolutely brilliant quality of sounds and styles like no other in my opinion. No other brand has such beautiful and so authentic rhythms as Revo Drums found of the Genos. So really in all fearness, it's like comparing technology which is like 5 years and 10 months old if the maths do well ... I do like Korg and in a matter of fact, I owned 4 Korg keyboards which I enjoyed however with this new Korg Pa5x, I seem to find after trying it out in Melbourne, Australia that the styles seem to greatly be lacking inner harmony and also as if you're playing drum and bass with a settle hint of orchestarion in between! I will be waiting for the new Yamaha flagship that will eventually replace the current Yamaha Genos Ver. 2.1 no matter when that will be ...

I recently got Genos. I also have Tyros 4 and PA4X. I prefer the voice and sound color of yamaha than Korg. But Korg has better flow and easy to use. But Yamaha improved a lot with touch screen and more depth in functionality.
@_jackoneill_ Жыл бұрын
The PA5x is not bad, but it has by no means caught up with the older and better Genos. Some sounds are quite good on the Korg, given that it is a PA home series of arrangers; however, overall seen and heard, Genos is still the most desirable arranger/workstation precisely because of its perfection, innovation and genius from about 5 years ago.
@jordanking77112 жыл бұрын
For people that are going to say 'oh but the Korg Pa5x doesn't bring anything new to the table', it's obvious that Korg took inspiration from not only the Yamaha Genos keyboards in terms of the LED strip on the front panel as well as the UI elements, but also the Roland Fantom series with it's pads (which are called Matrix pads on the Pa5x) and sounds from not only the Nautilus but their previous flagship the Kronos and SV-2 I believe (but feel free to quote me). Yes it may not be anything 'new', but to me, who cares. Not sure about the Pa4x because I've never owned one, but it's MILES better than the Pa3x which I DO still have and am seriously thinking about upgrading to the Pa5x.

As a Genos owner (and previously a pa4x owner) i think the pa5x shows his strength even more in the style department, not only better arrangements, but also a much better overal sound. The pa5x also picked up in the acoustic department and the new DNC sounds are finally on par with the sa2 sounds in Genos. Where it comes to functionality, the pa4x wins all over… better keybed, much better panel, tiltable screen, keyboardsets, dual styles.. they also finally adapted the file system Yamaha uses…. The only thing Genos has going is its performance memories, they are so flexible..korg should add this to the pa5x, by adding up to 16 performance memmories for each songbook entry, and using the matrix or the buttons under the small screen to controll them

Which is a shame for such performance keyboards, though through the 80's the DX7s was a synth to reckon with... but then the Korg M1 was a game changer.... For me, for a more softer, dampened experience, Yamaha will deliver... Though for Korg, the sounds are richer, my dynamic and raw to their natural self.

The transition from one sound to another when playing is much smoother on the Korg. This is a huge dealbreaker on the Yamaha. Genos is clearly an older generation workstation. With the advent of the Genos 2, I am in the market for either a used original Genos or at a push I could stretch to a PA5X. I suspect there's no way I will be able to justify the cost of a new Genos 2. Based on other demos, I had been inclining to the Korg. Anyway, I sat down and listened (before reading any of the comments btw) and marked the winners (IMO) of each bit of the demo. To my surprise, the Yamaha won hands down, with the Korg only getting the nod for its cello, piano and pipe organ. It was a little difficult to decide in some categories, as we didn't get like-for-like voices (such as on the strings comparison) and the playing wasn't very idiomatic for the instrument being replicated in many cases. But throughout the experience, it became clear to me is that while some of Korg's basic samples are indeed superior to the Genos, the thing which pushes the Yamaha back to the front time and again is the way the notes connect to each other. Closing your eyes, you are still aware of individual keys being pressed in the melodies, whereas the Genos articulations sound closer to the instrument being replicated. So, mind made up - I will grab a used Genos 1 soon (and save a grand or so into the bargain).

I owned a pa4x and then decided to exchange for Genos after 3 years even I prefer the pa4x semi weight keys , the Genos keys are a bit lighter .Now after listen to many Pa5x Demo including your demo , I think in general Korg pa4x and pa5x sound output are the same , it sound like we have to lower the bass and raise the treble a bit with the equalizer section ( that's why it sound a bit synthetic as many mentioned ) . On the other hand , Genos sound clearer and spacial . Personally the only thing I miss my Korg is Genos does NOT have 4 separate Fill In or a programable buttons for Fill In 1 to 4 , sometimes I played with Variation 4 but I wanted to use fill in #1 repeatedly , I have to press Var 1 and quickly press Var 4 again so the rhythm still stay at Var 4 !!!..... this is tiresome :). Secondly , with Genos I can NOT create Combo sound and store in separate library and call up QUICKLY at anytime later . The only thing I can do is store in 10 registration memory and store in registration in memory bank . If I play on stage as one-man band , by the time I found a particular combo sound ( registration ) to do a solo part , the singer would have finished his/her song and ready for the next , LOL ..... Hi, it's a fun video, basically, this type of comparison between two devices that have the ability to process sound is completely wrong, and the creation of sound in these types of professional devices depends on the ability and skill of the user or musician, but in the case of Yamaha in the categories Like Genus or SX, there is a rule that sells the device with raw effects to the user so that the user can create the sound in his own style and preference, but by default, Korg makes changes to the sound as much as possible, that's why in the competition market, because Korg installs the processed sounds on the device, most of the musicians tend to use Korg, while Yamaha is a sound pack manufacturer, by selling and installing the pack on the Yamaha instrument, it creates a transformation that is absolutely amazing.🌹

For Yamaha users and fans, I think Korg PA5x wins because there is a digital piano model (88 keys) with aftertouch (first 88 key piano arranger with aftertouch and ribbon controller), 16 Matrix Launchpad (similar to Casio MZ-X500 which is the first arranger keyboard that has a 16 launchpads). And, of course, deep editing for sound parameters, loads of Insert and Master FX slot, professional mastering EQ (you can use shelving and peaking for Lows and Highs. Also, LPF and HPF at Master EQ are added to PA5x as well. Sadly, Genos doesn't have advanced EQ features). Not only that, lots of effect plugins (VCM plugin and real distortion only few in Genos). 4 Insert effect for guitar and support guitar input (Genos have no Guitar Input). The coolest features in PA5x are enabled to cross-fade between 2 different styles and song/audio as well. For sound and style, so far, so good is 50:50 and the drums for PA5x are the same as Revo Drums on Genos, which has a round-robin sample (when you hit the same key, the sound is a bit different for more natural-sounding drums). Korg PA5x acoustic drums sounds more realistic and punchy than the older series thanks to the new round-robin samples (the old PA drum sounds a bit awful).

Given that the Genos is now 5 years old, it's amazing that it can still stand against the latest Korg's flagship model. Even certain sounds and accompaniments are better on the Yamaha IMO. They really did a great job work with the Genos, and it made the competition struggle just to try to be on a par. The PA5X seems really good, but I don't plan to get rid of my Genos, at least in the short term. BTW, in the panflute sound demo it would have been much better to use the new sound of the 2.0 update, instead of the "stock" panflute sound which is there at least since the PSR-9000, even before the Tyros.

Think Korg have made a big move here. They are getting close on the Genos. Their articulations have become much better than befor and a few of the voices are slightly better sounding. Really A nice board. Too bad it only got 61 keys. The orchestral sounds still can use some refinement. Just shows how leading Yamaha have been ever since they introduced the SA Sounds in the Tyros line, and hands down, even some years have gone, the Genos is still the best arranger board available, and propably also the most expensive apart from Wersi. But I am sure I can find some functions in the Korg if I had it that is better. It just surprices me that Korg have worked much more with enhancing the PA line instead of its top dog, the Kronos r.i.p. and gone with a striipped down version in th Nautilus without aftertouch on any of the models. Korg does some strange things. Is there reAlly a better marked for a premium arranger board than a Premium Workstation ? Why not combine the 2 ? The Genos is a fantastic keyboard, but it also cost a tad more than even the Kronos 2 88. If they don't think there is a market for a big workstation, I can't see why there should be many people that have the money for a Genos.

I haven't seen either one in person to be honest, but after listening to many many demos it feels like both are very disappointing at this price point. They both probably have some nice technical features and nice bells and whistles, but sound wise, they are still very comparable to their respective predecessors. The Genos sounds very close to the Tyros and even some of the most recent high end PSRs. The PA5X equally sounds like older PA series arrangers. at 5-6K USD, it feels like a ripoff in both cases. It feels like a PSR SX900 or a PA1000 can probably achieve 80% of these flagships at half the price.

Hoping to see a vst enabled Yamaha,Korg why nor reentry of Roland! Full 15 continuous control pluggable foot pedals that transfer online sliders to foot (not just midi pedal bass). 20 programmable foot buttons [manual bass, fingered* modes switch, separate dedicated sequences up/down, articulation switches]. Yamaha have some but not all save to registration and need to swap (only 2). I wanted to open keyboard and rewire 2 knobs to 10k foot pedals (will lose guarantee..). A programmable modulation&bend pedal: pressing pedal auto generate sin, cos triangular, damping oscillation, etc with a switch onboard or attached on one finger to change waveform. No expert keyboard player can be seen on KZbin capable of programming styles & executing an [approx] exact song as played on the records from start to finish with same original arrangement. We see (very) advanced piano players with almost no mastery to push the instrument to its limits / advanced technical capabilities of the keyboard. (yes those can do lots of things...)

@@CipriPopescu Hi, I have the same problem, so I always use external sound modules for my korg pa4. I like the functionality of the korg but the sounds are weak. The Genos has better quality drums and lead guitar sounds and Genos also has 76 keys. The Korg PA5X has more dynamics in it's piano sound and some of the acoustic guitars sound a bit more realistic but most other sounds tend to have the same level of realism regardless of the brand. I was surprised some of the Korg PA5X's saxophones sound similar to the Tyros 4 or Tyros 5 saxophones but on Genos the saxophones have been improved.

Just received the Korg PA5X [76 keys-semi-weighted...(not fond of its keybed feel)]. Impressive looking board. Well built physically. Yet I have NOT enjoyed even one single AC Piano voice. A big issue for me. They sound thin, brittle, hollow and contrived to my ears. Can't believe Korg has not an absolute and beautiful AC piano patch. I have the Kawai ES100 with nice pianos and buttery beautiful touch keybed and the Yamaha Genos 76 synth keybed [smooth and easy fast UI...pianos are smooth and acceptable for an electric board]; Korg Hammond patches are passable and strong but less so on the Genos. The Korg Hammond patches have nicer Leslie Rotary simulation than the Genos. There is a lot more on the Korg to investigate that my be more important than Piano/Organ for many owners. I'll need more time. My impressions from these Korg KZbin videos are that the sounds are falsely impressive but misleading when I actually audtioned them myself with my own good headphones. Your own Korg experineces may be totally varied than my own.

The price difference of these two instruments is enormous. However, Yamaha sounds significantly better than the Korg. The voices are similar, but in comparison of clarity and sharpness, for the same choice of sounds, Yamaha would be in wave while Korg would reproduce the same sound but very compressed in MP3 128 kbs. Finally, for the extension of styles, Yamaha wins hands down for the choice, the quality and quantity available, the exchange with other owners of the brand and especially for the ease of use has nothing comparable by compared to Korg which is super secure and apart from paying a fortune to obtain a few sounds or styles and install them in the PaX is a real gas factory. Creating styles from midifiles is a hassle, plus the result is rubbish after spending hours trying to create one! On the other hand, the Genos is sold way too expensive. Let's wait for the arrival on November 15 of the "new..." Génos, will there be a clear improvement and also... at what price? !

Right, I dunno if this is jsut me. But when comparing the piano the korg is obviously far better. And individual instruments the Korgs brightness appears to make it sound far better. And I think Yamaha really dropped the ball with the keys on the Genos and not having a full 88 key version is ick. And on paper the Pa5X should just sound better in all regards. But see as soon as you start playing pieces on it. The genos just comes to life. It sounds so real and authentic. Its amazing. Where as the korg its blatantly a keyboard. If I closed my eyes and listened to full sets on both. I could tell you the korg was a workstation. The Genos I can't. It's so natural and organic. It makes it such a hard choice. If only the genos had the korgs key options it would have been perfect. But I think the Genos still wins for me. The korgs jsut sounds blatantly like a keyboard when all is said and done. The genos sounds like a real band playing. And the dynamic differences in the sounds is unreal. The Genos jsut smashes it. So I guess it comes down to intended use. But I think I'd be quite happy jsut plugging the Genos into my electric piano and using it more like a standalone work station. Maybe cut the keyboard off lol. The korg although I think technically wins out and its ui and couple of extras win. When it coms to that organic sound, it jsut has to be the genos for me. I'll take all the mechanical shortfalls for that any time of the day.

The organ sounds didn't improve much, if at all,on the Genos 2. The screen, to me, is far superior on the Korg as well. If you do lots of one-man-band gigs, like many Asian people do, the Yamaha might be a better choice because that's the one most used and you can easily exchange styles or use someone else's keyboard at a gig.
