So, just as the South American charango is tuned like a ukulele but with 2 extra high strings, the guitalele has 2 extra bass strings instead. I need to pick one up to play it!

@lastoftheurgents196510 жыл бұрын
yes, you can. you might have to either try to avoid the first 2 strings when strumming or try to adapt and fill in a few notes. The last 4 strings are the same tuning as a uke, gCEA..but the g is a low G
@Schizopantheist10 жыл бұрын
Id like to know what this would sound like with reentrant tuning on the bottom two strings. Im guessing that would make it sound more ukeish.

Can i implement normal guitar cord to this guitalele?
@ilmatteo9511 жыл бұрын
he said that you could tune it in standard but the tone would get a little bit floppy
@Ren-kei12 жыл бұрын
Its simlar to a classical guitar, but in a ukelele type tuning, i reccomend even getting her into classical guitar, that way she can even play at school or in class and can play any classical peice very easy, this is like a hybrid of classical and folk. the fretboard can be scary at first, but honestly after smaller hands can play more complicated sets and faster then bigger hands in the long run

So it's like a little guitar with capo on 5? This review is long.
@rouelibre15 жыл бұрын
Yeah, except for the typical uku tone. I have experimented with a classical guitar in all sorts of tuning with capo (at the 5th) even changing string gauges in order to have the 3 lower strings one octava higher in pitch. But I always had the same problem. Too much sustain. A light sponge muffler under the strigs at the bridge sort of solves it, but... I plan on trying on a 1/2 or a 3/4 scale classical guitar.

I would like to tune EADGBE. Should I use strings for normal size guitar? or strings for guitalele ADGCEA but tuned each string quater low
@mssippijim4 жыл бұрын
You will need to use strings for a smaller scale guitar for best results.

I’ve just ordered the natural finish your’ve shown on this video. Can I play the basic acoustic chords? I’m confused. The tuning is different.

yes you can!! it’s the same thing as putting a capo on the 5th fret on a regular guitar. same chord shapes, but the chord names are different

Hello how are you?? I like your video, but I want to ask that can we install classical guitar strings set to this Guitalele???? Or Guitalele strings tension are different from classical guitar????

I've been using D'Addario EJ45 Pro-Arte Normal Tension classical nylon guitar strings on my GL-1 for nearly 4 years. They sound good on the instrument, and they last almost forever. I'm playing with them in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mp-nfpmnoZx5f9U

I had a question, do you still have to humidify this guitalele?
@jgrossma7 жыл бұрын
Its a $125 instrument with a plywood top and low-end body wood. You can humidify it if you like, but I can't imagine you'd notice any real difference in tone, nor is the instrument likely to crack if you didn't. I personally wouldn't bother.
@starscreamer4712 жыл бұрын
I guess the 6 strings will make solo playing more dimensional than compare to a 4 strings ukulele.

@Schizopantheist10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's essentially what standard Ukulele tuning is (top four strings of a guitar tuned up)
@DrNecroid12 жыл бұрын
And what if i tune it like EADGBE (as usual) ?
@evanssm14 жыл бұрын
If you tune up a 5th (an octave higher than a guitar) then it'll probably explode - if it doesn't explode then, in time, the bridge is likely to come away, or the top will crack near the bridge and the top may begin to bow - higher end instruments will be designed so that the bridge goes first in order to prevent damage to the top or the neck. if you tune down a 4th (which would be the same tuning as a guitar) then the strings will flap around, it'll buzz like hell and the intonation will probably be way off. You might be able to get the tuning down option to work if you mess with a setup and change the strings but I don't think the small body would cope very will with amplifying the lower notes. Very high end instruments have the top and the bridge tuned to offer the best resonance at the natural pitch of the instrument - although this is not the case with entry level instruments, the same general principle applies - instruments tend to work best close to their natural pitch.
@North0house12 жыл бұрын
Honestly, if you want to tune it however you want, just change the strings out and tighten them up right so that you can get the EADGBE tuning you want, or what have you.

@Io-Io-Io8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Hosford forget the 'le' not to speak of the ukule. it's a tiny guitar .
@blackwolfsr7 жыл бұрын
I have this and you play it like a standard guitar, only it sounds a 4th higher since it's smaller (imagine you placed a capo on your guitar). He mixes in the ukulele chords for the ukulele players, but it's essentially a ukulele sized fully playable guitar.
@Io-Io-Io7 жыл бұрын
Melvar Gerdes Obviously :) I never got why so many people make the connection with a ukulele. It's not a ukulele but a guitar- obviously! :)
@TheThesmyths7 жыл бұрын
If you are a uke player, its a uke with two extra strings, If you are a guitar player its a guitar with capo on 5th simple.
@jgrossma7 жыл бұрын
That's sort of a semantic question. You could think of it either as a mini-classical guitar or a uke with with two extra bass strings. The thing is built like a miniature classical guitar with similar headstock tuners, bridge design and internal bracing. Its built side by side in Yamaha's factory where they build classical guitars, and construction is basically identical to a Yamaha classical I own. It looks like a guitar and is tuned like a guitar. . .but you could tune it any way you liked. It definitely SOUNDS more like a ukulele to me. Speaking from experience here, if you're accustomed to playing classical guitar the RIGHT hand is going to feel pretty cramped because string-string spacing at the bridge is narrow.

@jgrossma7 жыл бұрын
You can, but the strings feel a little "floppy" and (IMO) the tone isn't as good. There is another video up on You Tube where standard tuning is demonstrated. If you really wanted to play this in standard tuning, I'd try experimenting with high-tension strings to get a bit better feel and projection. Daddario makes a set of classical strings designed for "fractional" size guitars and those might work here.
