Hope you will enjoy my demo of Guitarlele By Yamaha. It's a lovely instrument that is much much smaller than a regular travel guitar and therefore more practical to use on the go. Check the video to hear what this guitalele sounds like.

I recently bought one of these - it's a fun instrument, and I'm finding it highly addictive!

We have one of these and I say that the resonance for melodic playing is very good, surprisingly good. When you play one of the notes of the open strings in closed position, the body rings and the note lasts for a long time. It's a good buy.

If you already play guitar, you will like this little instrument. If you don't play yet, I don't think this one would be any less frustrating to learn. This is not a toy, it's a pretty well made instrument. After test driving mine for about a week, I lowered the saddle a little to improve the action, and replaced the classical strings with "silk and steel" strings. Very small increase in string tension with silk and steel strings, so it has not been a problem for my Yamaha GL-1. Sounds much better to my ear. If you are a classical guitar player, you may prefer the nylon strings. Good, honest review. Help Greg out and buy one.

I love my Yamaha guitalele. It is great for camping and for travel. It was a great transition instrument from ukulele to regular guitar.

Hmmm just got a Baritone Uke after selling my Tenor and considering returning it for one of these- its a lil boring for me the way its just the lower 4 strings of a guitar (DGBE).. might try this instead cause I like playing a reggae style guitar..

Thanks for the review! Considering buying one of these for a child. What's the action like after a year? How often does it need to be tuned? Thanks!

The instrument is as good as new. You will need to tune each time you pick it up just like any guitar out there. It's a good instrument and great value for your money.

i was wondering whether the guitarlele has a truss rod so that I can safely change strings and tune it as a guitar without placing too much tension on the neck...

Hi :) I have a burning question. So I’m a travelling musician and I’ve had a hard time with planes lately.. I’ve been thinking of changing over to the Guitalele for a while now but there’s one thing holding me back. What do you think about turning it to a standard E guitar tuning using hannabach strings? I would honestly love your opinion, thank you so so much!
@GregMichael
@GregMichael 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to restring my guitalele with these strings yet. I already have them so will probably give a go. I wouldn't rely on guitalele as my main instrument to be honest.

I haven't tried Hannabach strings yet, but I'm using Aquila guitalele E tuning strings and am quite happy with them.
@luc5798

A guitalele with its small body will always sound better tuned higher. Personally I tune it in G# with the 96c Aquila set. The advantage of these strings is also that they are thinner, so easier to play (I also changed the head nut to have more space between the strings...)

What kind of strings do u use for the guitalele? Having a hard time grinding strings. Also, what model is that Yamaha travel guitar that you showed

Hi I haven't changed the strings yet.They do wear quickly. I will be testing some in the future and will make a video about it. If you find strings that are good please share it with us. Also the other Yamaha guitar is called JR2 3/4

I bought one of these and love playing it when it's in tune which sadly isn't very often...I think with my playing style it stays in tune for less than five minutes...Sadly it will have to go...

What is the main difference between a guitar and guitalle apart from being small? Will the scale match with regular sized guitar right out of the box?
@GregMichael

The tuning is like in ukulele. To sound like a guitar you need classical guitar strings

I would say maybe its not the best for child because the neck width is for adults. Scale length is fine yes but it could be hard for young children to grip properly.

Hi, I'm really worried cuz I don't know how to play this but I just bought it and there are no tutorials on KZbin, i need help☹️ Can you teach it on KZbin? It will be great
@GregMichael
@GregMichael 4 жыл бұрын
I suggest that you start learning from guitar tutorials. Especially songs for guitar with a capo on fret five. The sound will be the same. If you are a complete beginner I suggest that you find a local guitar teacher to help you get started. KZbin is great but it's not an answer to everything. Especially at the very beginning.

In the hundred dollar range probably the Kala Mahogany series or similar. You’re just going to be finding laminate construction in that range but around that price is when you can start counting on a certain level of build quality. I like the concept, I just want to hear what the $400 all-solid version of this would sound like.

Is the action high, i believe that this is the most important information for a 5 year old
@GregMichael
@GregMichael 2 ай бұрын
The action is not high. It’s a perfect for a 5 year old. Even a 4 year old if they are ready to learn. I now recommend 1/2 classical guitars but not Yamaha as they are too big. There are other makers that make smaller 1/2 guitars. I would go with that instead of a guitalele.
