I've used the Yamaha Guitalele in person and the sound is absolutely amazing- mellow yet bright. Sounds exactly like a uke. An easy way to take your guitar skills and make it sound like a ukulele. The frets are a bit rough on the side and scratched up my hand rather intensively but no one else who used it had that problem so it might have just been my preferred hand positioning that did it. My other stringed instrument encounters have never resulted in this, though. Because of this, although I adore the tone and sound of the Yamaha, I will be looking at other brands.

Might depend on the air moisture levels of where you live. Often when living far from the equator, guitars manufactured in the US for example, require moisture to stay the same size. You can also file or sand the fret ends away fairly easily, although the guitalele isn't the best instrument for that. At least it's cheap I guess.

I agree I love mine. but one thing i don't see in all the reviews is how much this benifits for practicing scales and chord progressions. I have always had to make do with my small hands and play my solos with much more sliding than hammering, but this guitalele has helped me with my pinkey training and reachin the farther frets for the more complex runs. I have easily applied it to my full size guitars, great sound, play-ability and an awesome practice tool for around $100 u can't beat it! !

Hi. I have one of these, and I love it because it's so portable! I can take it to the beach and anyhwere really. One question though, since I am a newbie to playing guitar - is it normal for the low E string to vibrate / wobble so much whilst playing? I think I can see it doing that in your video, but am not 100% sure. Maybe you could tell me?

I've had one of these for 15 years or so. Play it almost every day. I don't even I think I've changed the strings, but it still sounds great but more importantly very fun to play. I have a recording of a bloodhound gang song (not professional obviously) on my channel I play it if you want a demo. Sounds fuller than a uke when playing rhythm, and not like a steel guitar with a capo or even a nylon. Anyway, great instrument can't recommend it enough!

If you paid attention to the annotations at the top of the video, you would see that his name is Blaise, not Blaze. It's a real name, one that is more popular among native speakers of French than of English, but is one that he undoubtedly received from his parents in the traditional manner, not some kind of nickname that he's adopted to sound "cool" or "hip". So how about giving him a break?

I found the lump "heel" at the back of the headstock got in the way of my hand and had to carve quite a bit off (neatly I may add). The headstock is too close to the fretboard. It is well made but the intonation needed some work, a new saddle angled back and lowered there, and a new nut. Frets dressed. If you have such work done professionally it will cost more than the instrument. The break angle over the saddle is shallow so eschewing the timber-hitch a ball tied into the guitar strings holds them (as sometimes used with ukuleles). Standard guitar strings, change every couple of years, tension is a little higher than a guitar maybe, which can give more "feel". I drop the tuning a full tone to G (rather than A which sound too twee to me). The soundboard takes some time to bed-in to sound more mellow and a lot fuller. Good dynamic range. You can really lay into this thing to make it bark and cry. A cool little parlour guitar. Could wish for an electro version, it's not loud enough for stage on its own.

Question regarding the frets as opposed toa traditional ukulele. I've been having fun with the short span so far as moving fret to fret, better reach. Would you say that these frets resemble more of a baritone uke or are they sort of comparable to a standard ukulele?

I'm loving this little cutie in the meantime. ❤️ I'm used to getting up veeery early and usually want to start practicing immediately. My normal acoustic guitar is too loud, electric guitar is no option and so I take this little guy with me into my bed and practice for an hour or so. I discovered that it's improving my technique as the frets are very small and you have to grab them very precisely. When switching to the normal guitar then it's lot easier. 💪 The sound is good, it's under 100 € so what. Good enough for playing and recording tracks with ukulele sound. 😉

Hi Guys, one question: im in need of a practice guitar in break times like on evening while watching tv and stuff. i need to practice right hand fingerpciking stuff, so it would be important to have a similar string spacing as on the classic guitar for motor memory. Can you recommend a guitalele or some other small guitar for such a plan????

Have one of these. Build quality is good, this is not a toy. The problem is that string spacing is narrow and frets are crowded, making it extremely tough to play real fingerstyle or classical guitar pieces. I don't see this as a legit travel practice instrument. This works better as a teeny backpack/around the campfire type strummer, or as an extended range ukulele.

As always im late to the party 💀 but i bought myself one now and i changed the strings so i can tune it in standard tuning (used high tension strings). It still sounds a bit floppy but the strings are new and need some time to get stable. Since i have it i never touched my other guitars 😅 but its not a very positive thing as i started having some troubles playing regular guitars as the frets are bigger there and the strings are harder to press. I think its better to play regular guitars in between as well and not playing only on the guitalele. Overall i really like this guitar and bought a hard case for it so it wont get damaged while on transport.

Even though I play metal, I bought this "toy" more than a year ago, and I like it so much. It sounds really nice actually, very well made by Yamaha, still in perfect condition, stays in tune, easy to get used to the size (I play 7 strings electric guitar... so slightly fatter guitar :) ). I am going to buy one for my brother now. Oh, and cheap.
