Yamaha Grizzly 660 starter clutch screw up

Brother!!! I feel your pain! I put two starters on my daughters 08’ Grizzly 350 just put the big dollar Fire Power starter from the dealer! No good same thing sounds like an old Chevy without shims in on the starter dreaming. Crank Crank, stop. Crank , crank, stop. Dealer told me starter clutch. Bought everything except the idler. Doubt that’s the problem. Put it all back together. No difference!!!! Period! It’ll pull start fine. But when you pull start it, you hear the starter spin loud. Backwards I guess. But after that click you can “barely pull start the damned thing. But, first pull…. It stars and runs fine!!! Any idea brother? What’s my next move? It really sounds like the starter is bad but, when pull staring, I should not hear any feedback from the starter correct? If you can help I’d sure send prayers of thank your way!!!

On a side note we ordered two of those starter clutches from Amazon and both bearings were installed backwards take em apart if it doesn't ingage and flip em

How did they hold up? I see nothing but pretty bad reviews on amazon. Curious because I have to replace mine on my Raptor

How did you get the allen head bolts out? Mine are really tight and keep bending the allen wrenches

Use an impact wrench. They pop right out.

I think that is called a "starter wheel gear" Not "idler gear", In case that confuses anyone..

I bought both clutch and gear for my 2001 warrior it was wore like yours it was stuck made a horible thrashing sound
