Yamaha HPDI 150 mystery filters replacement

I wasn't having a specific problem but knew that the filters had never been changed before. We also had a fuel issue when I first bought the motor which had been stored so I wanted to be sure that the entire fuel system was clear.

I did my port motor first so that was my learning period. Port motor took 3 -4 hours and starboard motor shown in the video took about an hour to hour and half. Biggest thing is to take your time

What were the symptoms of the motor that made you change these filters?

Here are all the filters between the gas tank and cylinders on the motors: Racor 2 micron filter Canister filter VST filter VST canister filter then these mystery filters Nothing should get through all these filters but the ethanol fuels are also breaking down some fuel lines. The little specks may have been little pieces of fuel line. By removing these filters, you could possibly allow debris to enter your injectors or even worse allowing debris into the cylinders. These HPDIs are great motors but are fuel sensitive. Change the filters as part of your annual maintenance and you should be good

ebay has the filters really cheap. What was the estimated time you did this in? Sorry if I missed that.

Typically loss of top end RPMs....used to get 5300 and could only get 4900 now WOT. Replace them and back up to 5300

@@skmag357 I have a 200 as well. A 2005. 110 psi all the way around. Replaced the vst, multiple coils, solid fuel pressure at the vst, good spark, replaced the neutral sensor. Idles and starts perfect. Go to get on plane and looses power. Will cut out intermittently. Can't get on plane. If I do it will slowly come off. Before this all happened ran like a top. Not even sure what to do next other than the hp pump. New plugs as well.

@@daviddenton6620 your saying your symptoms are the same as I described above? No, we have not. I just had my gauges replaced as neither yamaha gaugae wad working. Will know maybe later today if there is an alarm or not. We still have not gone as far as the high pressure pump. I do have a spare. Have not done the mystery filter business. What are your symptoms specifically?

@@shortsalegroupinc possibly need replacement of neutral safety switch assemble part 68F-8259F-00-00. Read up on symptoms of this issue.

+Jennifer Johnstone This is model year 2000 Yamaha HPDI 150. From what I have read, the HPDI 150 and 200 are pretty much the same with only slight changes

I bought the filters from injector rehab. $.79 for the filters. I bought a bunch because I did drop a few while installing :) injector-rehab.com/shop/Bosch-Universal-14mm-Long.html

Stupid question why not buy/ Install a high quality filter before the engine and just remove these?

Chris Mac - not sure if you've followed but even without adding your own (RACOR?) water separator filter on your boat side - these motors have 3 filters in the fuel path prior to the H.P. side where the basket (mystery) flters are
