The LOW CUT ON filters out the low frequencies for the audio being set out to the speakers. I would test keeping them on for small speakers so that they don't have to deal with anything below the LOW CUT cutoff. This upstream filtering is a feature of the Yamaha most don't have at this price point. The HS8S would be top of my list if it only had power standby when no audio present.

Oh WOW!!! Thank you for this information. That’s huge. Pinning your comment. I agree the power stand by would be nice I have to bend down every time I’m done to turn off and again to turn on lol.

yeah its annoying i have to bend down and get behind to switch my sub off and then the speakers across a 186cm desk apart and yeah thats one annoying thing because i believe having them on and no music would use quite a bit of power.

@@sasproductions701 True that. It'd be beneficial to know how much power the HS8S is consuming at idle (no sound present). That said, the Yamaha specs on the HS8S show 70W average power consumption at an average volume with sound present. So even if it were booming 24/7 @ 70W that wouldn't be but 22-cents per day where I live. Our utility charges 13.25-cents per kWh. I'm guessing power consumption at idle would be somewhat less. One could get a relative idea just by feeling the rear heat fins to see if they cool any during idle periods. The upside to not having a standby function is that's one less thing to go wrong in the future. I've got an older Audio Engine S8 sub that no longer wakes from standby. So it's a boat anchor at this point.

@@eyesonly4451 i havent read up on what power is uses but i assume quite a bit because at the back of the speakers gets warm on heatsinks and all im doing is watching youtube not loud at all.

@@sasproductions701 Are the fins too hot to touch during KZbin time? I know a 60W light bulb is too hot to touch. So if you can easily touch the fins it would be burning less than 60W.

Please help, so the two monitors connect to the sub and the sub takes the left and right monitor PLS on the interface? I have a pretty cheap volt 2 🤣
@nothingpersonalmusic
@nothingpersonalmusic 2 ай бұрын
Hi! So the output of the sub connects to your monitors. Then the output of your interface connects to the input of your sub. Does that help?

On the diagram, the low cut goes to the output, not to the subwoofer. So, you can turn it on to cut low frequencies from your speakers (wich are connected to the woofer's output) and let them to be entirely processed by the subwoofer

Thanks! Someone also commented earlier too, you guys are very helpful! In hindsight that seems obvious now 😂 I’ve turned it on and I definitely prefer it on

Does this work with a patched together surround sound system? It my recover output send L/R to sub, do the center and rear signals skip the sub and fo direct to other speakers? A little clueless over here, thanks!

Hey just to clear out, you got the output of the audio interface to the HS8S,and then it does the output of the same signal to the HS7's?
@nothingpersonalmusic
@nothingpersonalmusic 3 ай бұрын
Correct. The output of the audio interface is going to the subwoofers input, and the output on the subwoofer goes to the monitor speakers.

I want to get HS8s, but my current setup consists of Edifier 1700BTs and a Topping D10 with RCA connections. Can I use a cable like AUX to TRS from my 1700BTs to the HS8s

The low cut is for your studio monitors. It cuts frequencies from your monitors, not the subwoofer.

Hello, what's your recommendation for the cables? I already have HS5's installed to my audio interface with TRS to TRS balanced cables. Do I have a chance to get another pair of them or it should be XLR to TRS or XLR to XLR? I'm going to buy HS8S and I'm clueless which ones are the best. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you 😇🙏🏻

I have this set up. Go go trs from your Scarlett or whatever interface to xlr into the sub. You will have 2 of these L & R then just go xlr from the sub to xlr at the Hs8
