There are quite a few rude people in the comments saying "boring". If they don't like this video they don't have to watch it. If anybody typed comments like that on my videos I would immediately delete such comments and they would be blocked. The MM6 is actually not bad for what it is, it has some decent quality acoustic instrument sounds on board but you can also use it as a midi controller with VST instruments and the assignable filter knobs will also work with software synths.

3) Juno Gi/Di are almost in the same price range. Or at least they were. I remember I just read some not very happy reviews about them and think they were a bit pricier. Korg X50 was looking superior too, but I was looking for exactly that sound and got the MM6. Today, if I have to recommend a beginer's synth, would be MM6 - over any low-end PSR - MM6 costs now new about $300, the PSRs start from $120. If you need just a playtool get the PSRs. For a bit cooler - MM6. And keyboard is cool.

1) Thank you Angie! Now my honest opinion - sure it's not a high-end, but it's the opposite - not MM6 have the brain of the E323, but modern cheap Yamahas have the brain of MM6. MM6 is 2007, E323 is 2009. And still they have even more cheaper sounds. MM6 sounds are comparable more to PSR 550-650. I've heard them in the store too. However it is my first synth. Now why I got it - because of all synths available that time in my store it was the only one with sounds close to Milk Inc.

ok! as i remember there is only 1 user slot for external styles, so one have to "execute" when changing to another style, but the four variation buttons do also work for most of the external styles, i have a demonstration in my clips with the MM6 using external style, think its called "own comp.avi"

How do you find the MIDI Channels on the MM6, Can someone guide me. I'm using the chordie application, which only transmits on channel 1. How do I get into the MIDI Channel setup.

Sorry - cannot help. I sold mine MM6 few months ago. But I also was able to transmit only on one MIDI channel.

After I finish uploading the last part I think to do a review of my Akai XR20 drum machine and the BOSS VE-20 vocal processor too.

Very appreciative of your tutorial, yes you do go a bit too slow; leaving that aside, I picked up so much, that I could not get from the book, which is not easy to read.

i miss my MM6! it acually reads .STY files from USB-stick, so nearly all (not Tyros) Yamaha styles from the PSR-series are compatible, and there are styleconverters to use also for the ones that dont work direct, so it is a synth AND a arrangerkeyboard in one!

Which keyboard is better...The Yamaha MM6 or the Casio XW P1? Both are in the same price range.

I've tried P1 in a store. Honestly - the ordinary sounds (piano, flute, etc) on MM6 are of much higher quality. But the electronic (synth) sounds on P1 are better. Also MM6 cannot be programmed. You get what you see. P1 can be programmed. So depends what you want.

Hey Maz, unfortunatelly you can't. MM6 is not a sampler. You need a sampler to do that. Or a separate drum machine. If you never used one, click my name and you will see my channel. From there click on the "Reviews tutorials" playlist and watch the "Akai XR20" videos I did - XR20 is a very very convenient drummachine. If you want acoustic drums like for rock then you can buy Alesis SR16 or SR18 - it's the same like XR20. See the videos.

if you play lead solo synth, go for x50 rhode and piano sound go for mm6 for portability , x50 > mm6

4) And to finish - for the real sound, there is Kawai, Yamaha's hi-end models, that kind of stuff, speaking of electronic sounds. But that's a whole different price range and not everybody's pocket. Err, going back to 3) if I have to recommend beginner's synth for somebody who will not play, but want to do some modern electronics, that won't be ANY Yamaha - they produce only well-behaving synths. So depends on the purpose.

Yes, the 88-key version is much better - same body, same controls, really no difference, but the keyboard is better. For me it is no good choice, as I was looking for a compact solution. Don't have much place at home.

2) However right from last year we have a successor - Yamaha MX49/61. I've seen it in the store - not impressed at ALL. Still very similar sounds, with far less intuitive interface. The true power of MM6 is not only in the sounds which for that time were not bad, but mainly in the fact it is convenient for playing. So many buttons to save your config for quick-select later - just cool. What I really HATE in MM6 - whatever you record on it, cannot be edited, unlike the Rolands with real sequencer

are you familiar with the chordie application? If so, How do you get it tio transmit MIDI Data so you can see the keyboard and notes that are being played from the keyboard on your computer screen.

@@BTUNEB3 Sorry , not familiar. I do not use music applications. Only sometimes Audacity, to manipulate samples. Otherwise I am completely DAWless, no laptops. I record on Zoom R8 external recorder.

Honestly I don't remember already the feel of the X50. All I remember was that the plastic materials on the X50 were better.

1. It is lightweight for a weighted 88-key unit. It weighs in at around 35 pounds or so. This is a lot lighter than my Kawai MP5, which I exclusively use at church because it is too heavy to take to every gig that I do. I like the action.
