I Just bought a Yamaha Montage 6, and It is absolutely amazing. I considered buying a Korg Kronos 61, but I find the Yamaha much easier to control. Both the Yamaha and the Korg are great instruments though :-)

If you're particular about getting the Montage, I'd recommend switching over to a Montage 8. The 88-keys gives you a much better range to try stuff out when it comes to solos. You should also check out the Kronos LS, which is a semi-weighted keyboard. I've been using a PSR-S750, Kronos LS, FA-08 setup, and it works for me. I play jazz mainly. I've been considering swapping the Roland for a Montage 8, but it's too expensive, man. I only just bought the LS. The KORG has beautiful sounds. It sounds absolutely insane if you set it up properly.

Thanks for these! I have the Montage 7 and just ordered the Kronos2 61. It's def not a necessity but IMHO, Korg has done a great job of packing their legacy into the Kronos and while Yamaha has too, they've struck out in a whole new direction w Montage. Both sound great though!

what most people fail to realize is that you can sample any of those sounds to any of those keyboards, and can might as well sample the nord patches as well to a Kronos or Montage. The question is which engine is better stock?, and which is better for sampling replication and playback.

Cannot go wrong with either. I have both. Montage is the best performance keyboard I have ever played, the Kronos is the best workstation ever made and a fine performance instrument. Montage samples are the biggest and best in hardware at this price range but the Kronos gives you softsynths, a DX type engine, a sample engine and a workstation sequencer for midi and audio. Both give you usb connectivity and a/d converters .....I play my Macbook softsynths through the Kronos USB in and a Bass Station II or Pro2 through Montage A/D in. Makes improvisation mixing real time....both are great.....probably a used Kronos is best value but if you don't need a workstation, Montage really helps with performance, particularly with a solo artist. Only the Jupiter 80 approaches the Montage as a performance synth. I loved the 80 when I had it but wanted to try the Montage and I cannot have everything in my little studio.

Kronos always sounds good on record, but in live performance that is not case. Montage always sounds thinner on record, but live it's a beast! Always "on the surface", so present and natural. Kronos is good for studio and recording.

It's sad to me that we have to come to You Tube these days to hear what the high end products sound like. Guitar Center only has the small home keyboards and electric pianos unless you can get to a big city store. I asked our local store and they said the demand wasn't great enough to stock the big stuff any longer. It would be nice to feel the action on both boards before making a decision on which to purchase.

I’m about 15 miles from a Guitar Center here in northern San Diego County and it stocks both the Mirage 88, 61 and the Kronos 88, 61 and Fantom 8, and the next closest Guitar Center in Orange County at 38 miles, is well stocked and the Mother-Ship of all Guitar Center stores is just 88 miles north in Hollywood and stocks a boat-load of keyboards from the Nords and Casios to the Yamahas, Kong’s and Rowland’s. I don’t know where you live, but my heart goes out to you.. I think there’s 5 guitar Centers within 100 miles of me and 3 of them are pretty great ones.

It's krono's ability to cut into the mix that I like about it, but falls slightly short relative to yamaha keys as standalone instrument, but is still very, very good. What I like about yamaha keys is it's ability to sound whole as standalone (especially the flagship motif series), but terrible in the mix. Yamaha tends to be on the warmer side. Kurzweil has a special place on the top in that regards. Do not hate me. It's just my observation. I wish I could own all three flagships.

Just read further down the comments row..........there is a similar comment/explanation... Also, I noted one comment about aRoland XP-80... Well, first off, the piano is stretched between notes because of the small amount of memory for those samples...we all know what that sounds like... The Fantom has over 700 samples for it's piano alone, which equates to EVERY SINGLE NOTE sampled in stereo with multiple levels of expression etc. Most all the new workstation/samplers and standalones are doing this now. The XP-88 with max amount of cards installed would be closer to the Korg Triton Exreme....which lacks memory for it's grand piano....

I have a Fantom G6 and I am thinking of purchasing a Montage or MOD X. I have no need for built in sequencers because I use Cubase but I do love that Roland sound and patch architecture. Korg and their patch / combi modes always bothered me when I had a Triton because a patch consisted of only 2 sounds, Roland 4 sounds but the Montage has 8 elements/ sounds to create a super large sounding patch.

Great video, I think both of these machines are dope. I wish they both had desktop modules. The sound preference depends totally on the feel of the song one is trying to produce. Ultimately the technology wins out for studio work, and I'd go with the Montage. If Korg came out with another board next month, with better tech than the Montage, I'd choose that one. So they both basically take turns on top for me. Montage should come with Cubase Pro 9 instead of AI

Digital Diezel I have the latest Cubase (currently 10.5 Pro) and it would raise the price of the Montage even at a discount. As far as a desktop module, about the only surviving module seems to be the Roland Integra 7, which I use all the time. I strongly feel that the Kronos can go deeper than the Montage in the studio, with the huge optional aftermarket libraries of dedicated sounds that are available. The internal FX are as good as any plug-ins and the Kronos has a 32 track recorder (16 MIDI and 16 audio). It has numerous sound engines as well. The menus may be dated and a bit deep, but once mastered, the aging Kronos (which still holds its price value) can be a better ‘studio’ asset than the Montage. It can replicate the hands-on multi-FX of that flashing dial on the Montage, too!

It looks like Yamaha copied the Korg 'setlist' screen ?? Let us not forget, the Kronos has 9 sound engines! The workstation doesn't imitate an organ, it BECOMES their CX3 with ALL the programming/parameters and controls... That goes for the engines of Polysix, the modular synth and the MS-20 where their panels are on display and you can move and insert patchcords with drag and drop on screen control!! All the 'knobs' turn and function just like the physical synthesizers! With the optional orchestral downloads and the Leslie simulation (which I have in BOTH my Kronos) from the Korg site, it makes them first rate.......with a 62 gig onboard SS hard drive, you can store one heck of a sound sample library!! Sorry, Korg was first! If you know the Korg architecture, you can squeeze much more out of those factory patches... Roland seems to be out of the workstation fray... Seems the Fantom (I have an X 76) kind of stopped after the 'G' model.... Just an observation...

If all you do is compare by the sound demonstration here, its up to personal taste after giving any of several keyboard synths brands credit. Roland, yamaha, korg, and kurzweil all make great sound sets. You are better off with a cheaper model of the same brands if all you want is great sounds. Plus add on computer based plug in synths and you are good to go. The point to make in comparing these two key boards and even roland's version is their control surface and total range of features. Thats is where i am glad to have Korg Kronos2. Yamaha Montage is short on the Sequencer and no onboard Karma. Yamaha has a simpler Arp function in place of Karma. The extent of what Kronos control surface controls is beyond what Montage does. Roland FA controls go very deep as well but Roland doesn't as many controls especially the lack of 8 sliders despite having the functions that require 8 sliders. Kronos has the more powerful sound capability where sheer GB size matters. Plus no one tops the 60gb of kronos SSD and the rear in/out and USB options. 9 korg engines versus 2 yamaha engines says a lot about versatility. Kronos SGX-2 engine has a good piano advantage over Yamaha and others.

There are wtf sounds on the Kronos like, the guitar and the strings are ass compared to Yamaha’s Montage and the Rhodes in Yamaha Montage are ass compared to the Korg Kronos so technically 9 Engines don’t mean shit when you’re not going to use them all. It’s all for specs at the end of the day to sell their product. So it’s all about your preference. I personally love both but I pre-ordered the Yamaha Montage 8 and I’m still paying it on lay way lol 😂

PPEDDOSS WER : The PSR 900 is great for the money and 1/3rd the price of a Genos, but it is an arranger, not a DAW. The new PSR 900 has features and sounds not found on the Montage, but also vice versa.

Idk if the demo didn't do Montage justice, but it sounded pretty shit to me and not worth the money. I liked Motif XS/XF better. Korg sounds amazing tho, if i'm ever gonna buy a top tier keyboard, this is it for me.
