I'm also learning how to use Montage for church. My question is how to split the keyboard, such that I can play bass after adding it. I would like to be able to mute it and then be able to play the other parts within this section. I am trying to replicate "split" button function as it is found on older keyboards.

You have to go into the performance, if you click the "view" button you can see the key range for each part with a visual representation of how it lays across the keys. You can adjust the keyrange for each part to setup a split.

I’m having trouble with the fader controlling one sound on the Montage. Every time we add a Rhodes patch to any layer we can’t control it independently of the other sounds. Any clue as to how to fix this?

How are you adding it, is it a separate part? Make sure you're in part control and that you're adjusting the proper layer of the part.

+djpioneer937 you can do a backup from the utility menu. Can't promise but will look into a video.

They are different tools to my knowledge, the Genos is more like the Tyros, more of an arranger workstation type of product.

Yes you can control it in a few different ways as well, through pedal, super nob, or even velocity or what ever way you can imagine. Loving my board.

Hi, so I tried following this step in layering the sound but I got lost a bit (maybe im slow lol). What did you press to get from 0:33 to 0:35? My problem is to get where you have all those pluses And how do you save what you layer?

You have to be in the live set and you can save as a live set

Once you add it to the layer it is there, you don't have to hit save.

Hmmm, not my normal workflow I'll have to snoop around and see if I can figure it out. Maybe layering a drum kit with an arp on one part would work. I know some of the performances work that way but I haven't dissected them to see how it works.

Not sure you can do that many, but layering is done the same way as shown in this video.

This video would be so helpful IF you would just take into consideration that most people watching this, are new to the MODX so when you say stuff like x it out, we don't know what you really mean is exit out. Especially when you aren't showing the exit button. But I did still learn something so thank you for that.

MC stands for "motion control" that means the parameters are sequenced with the motion sequencer

Yes, I did and I used a USB to DVI converter. The resolution is not high though. But I figure it would come in handy if you wanted to record the montage screen.

@@musika7713 over the last 6 months I've probably watched over 150 videos about different keyboards and synths, and I've been in different keyboard goups, so I'm learning a lot about different keyboards. I have learned that for the money, the Modx8 is hard to beat. I like the fact that it does seamless transition between sounds. That's important to me. And the sounds in that keyboard are really good. Even the brass sounds are realistic. A couple of the negatives that I've read about are no aftertouch and the cheap plastic. Neither one of those things bother me at all. One big plus is the weight. The Montage and the Korg Kronos weigh twice as much as the modx8. So now I think it's going to be the Modx for me

8 sounds can be layered, but if we want to put sounds which contain for example 4 parts, we actually can put only 2 sounds in performance, correct?

Yeah, if they are multipart sounds it will take up more than one slot.

+BabyMoney216 I just record audio through my interface. Personally I prefer a board like this over plugins, it's faster, hands on, and I dig the workflow of recording from an instrument.

SoundsAndGear and BabyMoney216, because the Montage is a USB audio interface itself, you can actually record just off the USB cable itself without having to route audio cables to your main audio interface. Just a disclaimer, I am on the mac platform.

Can't say. I do not use it with VST or combine it with VSTs, I just record the sounds I like as audio tracks.

So you have any idea how to set up multiple sounds on the MODX8 and switch from one to the other while playing on stage? In the korg I always have 3 sound that I can flip to using the combi, program and sequence modes. On the roland you can set up each sound inneach bank Piano, Electric piano, bass, brass, synth and one you touch each button all the sounds yiu set in those banks are ready and there to use while playing. How can I do something like this on the MODX? I fail to think Yamaha would be lacking such feature.

I believe this is what you would use Live Sets for, you can make a custome Live Set and store your favorite sounds in it, so that you can quickly switch between them.
