Yamaha MOX6/MOX8 -Motif XS Sound Engine

Just bought one and love it. Sounds great with a pair of HS80M studio speakers (it only has line-outs so you need your own amp and speakers). Plenty of preset voices to get you started which can be modified and saved. Sure, it's not top of the line but then neither is the price, and it's certainly much better than all those cheapo toy-like keyboards. You get what you pay for.

@daftmusician No --they call them 'semi weighted' but they're really synth keys. Not bad though --I like them! MOX 8 keys are weighted

Is it possible to use the my MOX 6 with an MPC or the Akai MPC studio software? I want to be able to use sounds and patterns I create on the MOX 6 and extract/sample them on my computer to use them for beats with an MPC/software

I had actually went with the XF8 instead of the MO8 but I sold it because I wasn't inspired enough to do anything amazing with it. I'll stick with my cheap $100 Yamaha keyboard lol.

@xpjv I realize that not every sound is really good but the real instrument voices are amazing with roland they specialize in the non real instrument voices much like korg.

Korg, Roland and Kurzweil have been coming up with some really awesome stuffs. especially for Korg and Kurzweil. It's about time yamaha come up with something impressive. Frankly i'm not impressed with the MOTIF XF. Well let's just hope this keyboard can compete with the price with other brands.

I like how at 1:24 his mouth says "I have this beautiful Rhodes..." but the word "Rhodes" had to be overdubbed with "Sounds" later on because it's copyrighted. :P

It (mx) has less ROM...you'll hear the difference in brightness and complexity of the sound. Google this question and you'll find a soundsample of a guitar on mox and a guitar on mx...

@xpjv Sure seems like it (sarcasm) rolands pianos are so thick it could only be good for bass part of the piano , yamaha's good for all parts of the piano , and secondly roland doesn't make real instruments like yamaha does , so theres no way it can sound as natural. If this offends you're opinion on roland sorry but this is true.

@LostSouthernStar mm8 is the entry level synth.... mox8 is next model after mo8... middle level with better polyphony,sounds, more off arpegios i have mo6- in my opinion mox 6/8 is the new version of mo6/8... i think buy used mo8 & save the money.... if would you like somehhting better- buy series xs(most expensive & proof:)

I just don't get this machine.. lots of different sounds.. I had it now for 3 weeks.. and I can't even figure a simple task like taking any beat and adjusting to any key sounds I want. it seems the beats are hooked to specific sounds and effects that you can't take them apart.. With any keyboard that is the 1 thing people like to do and should be an easy task.

Sold mine now because of that, after it waited 7 oder 8 years in the Garage for me...the sounds are crap and this Thing is the most unituitive shit on earth. 😂 you must google everything. Couldn't figure out myself how to split the sounds i wanted. Wasnt pleased with it at All.

@sbhrule15 Yamaha makes some of the best acustic instruments, They do make decent Synths, but nothing near Roland/Korg on synths. Their Flagship synth the Motif, is not even close to the Korg Kronos, nor the Roland Jupiter 80.

i have mo6.... mox6 is too expensive (is not level higher than mo)...in my opinion the new version is cheap.....new price but small changes...... & control is most hide over menu( in old version motif/mo series is better)...sorry maybe is time for realy xs/xf series cheap versions?? the same like years ago mo vs motif?

Please buy it from a brick and mortar store instead of online or they are going to stop carrying them and you'll never get to touch one before you buy it! They can get them just as cheap as the phantom internet stores or that guy with a phone and a warehouse. And... you will have someone to take care of you instead of sending it back at your expense.

James Dory the MX is just the Little brother of the Classic Motif and the MOX is the lil Brother of the Motif XS both keyword isn’t like its older brother so just something to look out for

Now again! been a week now.. I figured out a few things. The issue I have now is.. When you record.. When you think it should record exactly what you are doing..So you would think! When you have Cubase open!! Why the heck does it NOT record exactly what you are doing... I recorded point period! Instead the stupid recorder doesn't see changes in my performance meaning it keeps on the same mode even though you changed it during your recording to blend...WtF is this GARBAGE!

Bought one. Not impressed at all! For one...it feels so cheap & chincy just like the Roland FA06 keybed. Instrument sounds are not all that thick & rich. I should have just spent a $1100 on EastWest products. My kid gets more use out of it than i do

Another damm issue with this CRAP MOX6! You can't record on the memory itself at any time! OK.. So you go thru the instruments you find one you like.. awesome... you got the beat... You're good to go... You hit REC ... NOTHING! So now you need to go in a certain mode.. NOW GOOD LUCK FINDING What you liked...it's gone.. and the setting will not be the same... You got fuck around with 1000 settings to get exactly what you liked it the other mode!..AH mAn... I think this is a return to the STORE!

OK... Now I'm on USR2:123(H11) HARP1 ..I record my song in Cubase.. it's recording .thru the song I change to Harp2 ... Funny enough Cuse doesn't pick up HARP2 it only records HARP1 even though you changed it thru the song! GARBAGE POINT BLANK! RECORD IS RECORD>> AND IF I CAN'T RECORD then this thing is going bak on the shelves with other CRAP MOX6'S!
