Both keyboards sound great and shine in different areas! MOX8: Clean/Bright synth sounds. Drum patterns seem to be more 'current' according to current music trends. Organ sounds VERY nice! Krome: Much brighter piano sounds, which would do well for cutting through a live performance mix. Synth sounds are much more suited for being layered under a piano to add body. I'd go with the Krome, but that being said, both are amazing and I'm sure could be 'tweaked' to fit any situation!

Overall, I find that Yamaha's sound are a rich amalgamation of sound, meaning the characteristics of Piano, Strings, Organ etc, are sort of blending with each other irregardless of the type instrument chosen. Korg on the other hand, has a rich diversity of sounds, meaning that the instruments are distinctively different from each other and the success of the blending depends on the choice of instrument. Korg is richer in its low keys, while Yamaha has a rich tone in its medium keys.

I have both keyboards , the Yamaha MOX8 sounds are more rich sounding no big surprise for a lot of you out there. I also think a lot depends on what kind of music you play .Right now I'm playing a lot of contemporary Gospel so I'm leaning towards the MOX8 .Having said that, the krome is a breeze to operate the Seq/workstation for those just starting out . I'm very happy with both keyboards they compliment each other.

I completely agree with you! As a producer I own for now Korg, but I intend to get the Yamaha Motif XS rack and the Roland Integra 7 sound module, that way I'd have 3 of the 4 major flavors for my sounds. Also, as a main controller and synth, I'd also like get the Kurzweil PC3K, so I'd actually have access to 4 major flavors of sounds and technologies and many different types of effects. Lots of power, sounds and effects for those who need many options for their creativity.

Right now i have yamaha mox8, which i use as a main keyboard and roland juno di as a second keyboard. My friend has korg krome And i borrowed it quiet a lot. So i'm planning to buy korg krome 61 because of some of their synth lead sounds, plus i find it easier to edit sounds and it gives more variety. Each of them has their ups and downs. Really Love these keyboards, but overall, yamaha is always my first choice. For me krome piano sounds very plastic and fragile. Yamaha has rich and warm piano sound. But that is just what i hear. After all, it all depends on our taste.

Albert Peka … Sounds about where I'm headed, using the Yamaha 88 for my core sounds and going with the KORG 61 as the non weighted top kb for additional sounds for a 2 tier gig & either one depending on the demands of a gig requiring only one keyboard... i've been the proud owner of both Korg and Yamaha KBs in different configurations as well as Roland gear too... and they all sound great in one way or another, or complement each other within a single rig...however as I said I do prefer Yamaha for acoustic and electric pianos and Hammond B3 sounds if you don't have a software B3.... i'm currently using the main stage Hammond B3 now and it's killer… I played The real deal back in the 70s and the main stage B3 is spot on… Except for the ungodly weight and the two Leslie's

The basic sample wave files in both of these instruments are likely very similar sounding. The differences in the sounds of these two keyboards, in many cases, can be attributed to the different settings of the filters and amplitude envelopes. Adjusting these settings could make them sound virtually identical.

I don't really have any experience with the Krome but I have an inclination to Yamaha sounds; still I'm impressed by the the Krome sounds, particularly the strings, organs and pads as they sound cool with no distortions; Yamaha Mox all the way with the very best of acoustic and realistic warm sounds. I think it's best to compare both keyboards based on how their various sounds can be modified while playing.

Both are really good with different flavors of sound. I cannot say that one is much better than the other, it's all a matter of taste, but both are pretty much in the same category of sound quality. I think the decision of which one someone should buy may rest on more than just the sound of the boards. I think what may sell one or the other is the other features and functionality they have to offer. As a producer I could easily use and enjoy both just as much.

With all due respect we are not talking about soft syths. We are talking about hardware synths, which the Roland RD 700NX really is. Believe me I have them all (the good ones anyway) Galaxy, East West, and more. I also have the s90es, kronos, krome, roland Jupiter 80, Integra 7, Roland FP7F, Motif XF. I play all these instruments and IMHO the s90es pianos are the most expressive & best sounding of the bunch. So no GB does not determine how good a sample is.

I have to say, after playing both at a music store, korg wins hands down on piano sound. their german grand is a sample of a bosendorffer and is spot on. I do like some of the sounds of the yamaha. My only thing against the yamaha is this, you have to be a flippin MIT engineer to navigate through their menus. Korgs are very simplistic, made for the working musician. If yamaha could change that, then they would be hands down the winner.

Rounder not necessary means better, what it matters is if the sound cut through the mix, Yamaha MOTIF and MOX has a sound that tends to be too bassy, KORG and Roland has more balanced EQ settings on there sounds, plus, MOX is just a rompler, KROME has long samples.

There's only one feature that makes Korg the winner for me; multi layer and split zone up to 16 timbres, thats a great feature especially for rich layers multi splits and for live gigs thats very useful. , you dont need to have 2 or 3 keyboards on stage, Yamaha sounds also great but If Im not mistaken Yamaha mOx series allows only up to 4 sounds to layer or split, Thanks for the video.

The synth patches are really apples and oranges since there isn't a 1 to 1 patch comparison. From the very first demo it appears that a phat brassy sound was used on the Yamaha and a far more wispy choir on the Kronos. However, after hearing the acoustic instruments it's a clear win for Yamaha. More full frequency range and definitely more texture based on velocity.

Having a hard time deciding between the Krome and the MOXF8 (don't look at the MOX anymore, it's the MOXF you want, upgraded version). I'm mainly looking for piano and key feel. I still have and use my Korg Triton Pro so basically don't need more synth. My being used to the Korg interface is a huge factor, but not a deal breaker. With the Krome you can change sounds on the fly without the previous sound being cut off. Does anyone know if the same can be said about the MOXF8? My last 88 was the Roland RD-500 (weighted keys). Both the MOXF8 and Krome have different keyboard types. I need to take a road trip (2 hrs) to test them out one of these days.

...and you have to use Master mode if you want to control other keyboards. You have to use Song Mode if 4 parts are not enough for you. And if you have filled all 64 user locations up, you have to (ab)use the pattern mode. Let's sum it up: song mode, pattern mode, performance mode, master mode. That's 4 modes for those who work beyond simple bass/piano splits. All that is covered by one single mode on Korg and you even have much more user memory.

I think I preferred the Mox8 in most of the comparisons. The Krome sounds kind of hollow in comparison. I suspect that the Mox8 has more reverb in almost all of the defaults, though, making it sound more realistic/warm.

I'm thinking of purchasing the Krome sometime soon more because I wouldn't be taking it to the club or anything but quite the opposite, probably church lol. Plus, the Korg piano samples are much better. I got to test one out..it's unbelievably SO lightweight you could take it to a friend's house and not have a care in the world about something heavy. If you aren't a professional but want professional performance and sound capabilities with a great feel to the weighted keys (not the sticky workstation type) with a budget under $2000, definitely the Krome.

I prefer the Krome out of the 2 but thought the MOX8 sounded good still. I was considering a Krome to replace my Triton Studio but a few missing features put me off, such as no ribbon controller or optical out. It also doesn't seem like that much of an upgrade, but more of a side step. Some of the sounds are a lot better than the TS but it hasn't persuaded me to change. I think I am going to save and get the Kronos instead as that is a massive upgrade. For now I'm happy with the VSTs I use.

When I listened to Yamaha's Piano at 2:24 vs Korg's Piano at 3:16 I could say that Yamaha has a greater sense of expression. Korg's sound is richer though. So if you are after the nuances of the player's performance I'd go for Yamaha, but if I am after for richer sounds, I'd go for Korg

First of all thanks so much for this comparison. It's not conclusive but it does give you an idea of what to expect. Personally, even though I think Korg has a better synth engine, Mox had the edge in 80% of the sounds but then again, like its been said here, it's relative to each musician and choice of sounds he or she makes.

This is as subjective as it can get. If you like the Korg, get that one, if you like the Yamaha, get that one then. To me, they sound similar, although each has its unique traits. I like them both but the krome has the edage because if you listen to the mox8 the polarity are being cut off on the notes alot of people look pass this on piano sounds. The piano sounds are on roland but korg has done an excellent job with the krome

Regarding those light years comparisons, don't forget to compare the performance mode on the yamaha with the one on a korg and you'll see how quick the direction changes.

Can anyone tell me if I can use Korg Krome to hook up to audio interface so I can record sound off the keyboard internally into a DAW like fl studio or ableton???

I personally have an MOX6, things to buy : monitor speakers or headphones + Yamaha sustain pedal, non Yamaha sustain pedal might work inversely if they don't have polarity switches and of course a stand and a piece of cloth to protect your instrument. I love the sound of Yamaha presets but I am curious about the 40 gigs of sound in the Krome. please think before even buying, try them out first before splurging 1,100 for an instrument.

I'm quite sure the audio is recorded via line-in, as you don't hear any noises from the room even when he changes seats, and the sound and stereo image is very clear.

3) The MOX is a Motif XS without the sampler. Their sound engine is the best synth engine by far in the "Rompler" category. Each MOX program have 8 oscillators, 8+ filters, 9 LFO, 8 Amp. Envelope Generators, 8 Filter Envelope Generators & 8 Pitch Envelope Generators. This mean that each oscillator is a complete synth and that each program is like 8 independent synths, something that the other synths can do only in Combi mode! Krome has 2 oscs per program and each osc. isnt a complete synth.

I own both, I realy like the easy interface of the Krome, the big screen, the good and very usable synths but the yamaha has defenitly the best accoustic sounds on board (pianos, organs, strings, EP, Brass, guitar) I wish these two could mate. I would definitly want to have the baby :-) Yamaha has quick layering/split options with the krome it's ok but it takes longer thru combi mode
