It's a look that's been out a while now, and I still don't like it. Looking forward to a refresh on the design to something less weird with less flimsy plastic bits dangling around the front and tail. Great technology and engine (albeit very thirsty), but ridiculous looks. I'm sure no matter how ugly or crazy a company makes something, there will always be people who will like the look. Yet I doubt very much anyone would say that 2004 R1 (photo in the link) was ugly.

Hi Lara, I have just bought an immaculate 2016 in black, one owner and 5 Yamaha services. I love it, I previously had a big bang R1 so I'm familiar with the cross plane crank engine. Mine's totally standard and its going to stay that way, I really don't need any more power than what it offers as standard. I could do with a larger fuel tank though, it's averaging 40mpg but the fuel gauge behaviour is bizarre. Full,full, full, half full, reserve!! Keep up the good work.

Nice review, I've owned one well over 3 years and love it. I absolutely definitely wouldn't recommend this bike as a first bike. It's a hooligan machine and if you replace the cat with a Y piece link pipe, its probably the best sounding inline four out there. Think that is the comfort seat fitted to that bike, the stock harder seat is slightly lower.

Appreciate that - it definitely needs a free flowing set of pipes on it! It’s friendlier package with the throttle setting lower, but yeah - why bother when you can have wheelie madness on tap 😂. The best colour is the ice fluo as you had there, it accentuates the shape of the tank and the orange gives it just a hint of sporty colour rather than the high-school inky blue which is rather depressing.

I bought one!, Upgraded my Tracer 900GT to a 2019 Touring edition, in these Ice Fluo colours. Absolutely amazing machine! I suspect though I’m gonna have to fill it up a bit more regularly 🤣 but well worth it👍

It’s quite a docile bike mostly. I always ride in mode 3 as I like the full range of throttle control. I like how you said that when you decide to get on it then it’s there with you. That’s exactly how it feels. The cruise control is a great bonus feature. Your microphone is a bit sketchy but a great review thanks.

You made some observations I'd not heard before like trouble gripping the sides. Also you gave me a better appreciation for the headlight assembly. I still don't like it too much, but I think from the saddle, this would be such a great bike. At $13K (US) it is definitely the "poor man's super naked" but there's very little sacrifice. I have a blue late 2018 one of these. Had a tail tidy fitted, with a puig sports screen fitted, 25mm rear jack up kit fitted (over 6ft 1 you see), bar end mirrors as Oe ones are rubbish.....next on the list is a decat and remap to smoothen out the fuelling/throttle response, and to release a few more ponies (not that it needs it lol) best bike I’ve ever owned. Amazing :)

"I don't think the noise of this bike is going to blow your mind" Are you kidding? Clearly, you didn't wind it up properly. That sound is one of the most addictive sounds on any bike. There is no other bike(apart from the R1) that sounds like that. Most other straight 4s sound much the same as each other. That sound is what hooked me onto the MT10. So I bought one.

I think I have a soft spot for thumpy twins but I distinctly remember riding a mates cross-plane big bang R1 with full underseat Akro pipes. It was a touch more epic than the mostly stock MT10. Hello Hector! Thank you for watching - well done on getting some track time, great way to improve your skills as an intermediate rider. An MT10 is a fiesty machine and you’ll get very happy quickly with the throttle response - it gets addictive! The SS is a friendlier package but sportier. And much better looking. Depends if you like the feel of a twin vs a whining 4 💪 - i think a test ride is in order! ✊

I started watching for the bike review. Stayed to the end for the entertainment. You're funny! & You make some pretty crazy faces while describing you're riding experiences with the bike. 🤪😉 Not sure about the face apology, but it's cool. All in, I'd say a pretty solid mc / ride review, especially considering the fact that it's the first one I've ever seen presented by a legit female rider. 👍 I know this, because you most definitely recommended a Liter bike, as a potential "first bike" for new riders. Nice! 👌 I can't see anyone without some serious seat time being bold enough to make a recommendation like that, but I gotta give it to you, the optional rider modes do make for a pretty convincing argument. Beauty was riding the beast😁 To be honest Yamaha have turned me away from my favorite brand (nakeds only). MT series are all dangerous pogo sticks and misbehave waaaaay to much. Feel detached from them. KTM dukes from the 790 all the way through except for the GT also the same? Give me a GSXs1000, Katana or Kawasaki Z series and there you have a bike which lets you know what its doing all the time. Anyhow my rant! Love your channel and long subscribed... Keep em coming 💪

Hah, if you have a flashed H2, with Akro exhaust, L1 TC, you need to be super smooth and incremental on the throttle. I am selling mine and if an MT10 finds a new home with me I would flash it for sure to smooth things out. Will you also need a power commander, or is it not necessary ?

No, the riding position is great, but the standard seat is poor. Buy the comfort seat, you will not regret it. I've had my MT10 for nearly 3 years and the comfort seat is great and the bike NEVER EVER fails to put a big stupid grin on my face!

James, I'm around 5' 10" and I think you might struggle a bit at 5' 3", with the standard seating position. Apart from my MT10, I have a Triumph Tiger 800 and I know they make different suspension components called "dog bones" which help to drop the seat height by varying amounts. I wouldn't just keep dropping the rear suspension, as that might upset the bikes handling. Speak to Yamaha, as they may be able to help.

I'm going to have to give this bike a second chance. I test rode the 2020 SP version last week and hated it! There was a long list of dislikes that included: oversprung and underdamped front end, similar on rear shock, test bike's rear ride height was too high and not enough static sag which caused trail to be reduced up front to the point that it wanted to tuck under when turning in. I tried a variety of settings, lines and techniques, including with and without trail braking but to no avail. Riding position was god awful: too upright with too much weight on my ass and not enough on the balls of my feet. I'm 6' but this felt like I was riding the pony express with extra long stirrups. Front brake lacked progression, rear brake felt dead. Throttle transition was horribly lashy, like it was a 1970s shaft drive. I'm going to have to give it another go and spend some time setting up the dealer's demo bike because I can't believe that it's supposed to be that bad. Seriously, Yamaha need to take note that this bike can be set up to be a complete mule and that it needs careful set up before potential customers are let loose on it.

It may be the case that there's enough latitude in the SP's settings for it to become hopelessly off the mark if badly adjusted, so I'll reserve judgement until I have the time to work through it on a proper test. That said, I still struggle to find anything that provides the overall buzz of a Gen 1 V-Max, although I appreciate they're not everyone's cup of tea... that or a TZ350 😎

What is your height, ask for the ability to reach the ground while seated? I have an 05 VMAX and if I do get another machine I believe it would be an MT10. I have found the 2nd Gen Max, for a number of reasons, not for me. Nice report you have made.

Hello! Good question. Radically different looks (old school vs new school), the Katana has much less engine pull but low down torque, MT10 bigger and bulkier and more likely to help you lose your license!

Laramoto I did a Graves full exhaust and engine mapping. Found a guy online and bought the lowest possible handlebars. I couldn’t take the tall bars, gives it a much sportier feel without being an R1 backbreaker. The Graves upgrades rule, eliminates the snatchy on off throttle and makes even a little angrier. I’ve got pics on my Instagram, same name.

Yes it’s ideal for throwing it around. With a good rider I think you could show up a few fully faired bikes (if you can hold on!)

I have a 2019 MT10, iv traveled 50 plus miles at over 100mph and trust yes it is hard to hold on! I remember my arms getting tired half way through and not letting up the entire time! Lol. To me quite frankly it is the perfect street bike though! Not for long travels per say but a full day of fun riding or city hops then heck yes !

Had my MT10 for 3 months just bought it end of April 2020. Same color. From 0 to 2200 miles now. This bike is the perfect sport bike. Ride it Slow, Medium or ride it like a Lunatic. It loves All riding styles

No, just wondering, seems like the rendering quality can be played around with a bit more. Settings seem pretty stock compression from whatever camera(s) you're using. The quality of the helmet cam is a bit low quality. Good reviews none the less!

@@Laramoto Indeed, if you can, see if you can modify your bit rate pre or post shots. I don't know if your camera's will allow this, but you want to keep it well over 5mbps if possible.

First bike? 160hp. My dear the throttle settings dont alter full power. They alter throttle responce. Please show a bit of responsibility when making statements like that. My MT10 is my 4th bike. If i had this much performance when i started riding I'd be writing this from a hospital bed.
