I started with an MX88, then I bought the MX49 for various uses. In a bigger band I use it for solos, or midi it to the 88 for some excellent layering. In a duo situation I'll use the MX49 for left hand bass. So many great sound combinations.

There is a sound on this synth called "Movie Horns" which is the most fun to use sound I've ever come across. Just start playing pads with it and it sounds like every film soundtrack ever.

You make this keyboard come to life! This video alone makes me drool over a synth like this, it sounds so good. Really though most of the good sound come from the person playing it, and you make it sound like a $10,000 synth!

Tengo el Yamaha MX49 desde hace algunos (pocos) años. Este vídeo de Musictrackjp fue decisivo para la adquisición. Estoy encantado con este sintetizador. Si te dedicas a crear música publicitaria de cualquier estilo, esta máquina es fundamental. No necesitarás mucho más para hacer lo que quieras. Lo recomiendo. Yo lo utilizo junto a una MPC Live y no necesito absolutamente nada más. Solo dos instrumentos para todo. (Bueno, y el Arturia MicroFreak que es como una navaja suiza).

This is the best presentation of one of the best keyboards ever! 👍 Some time ago I bought the MK1 model for €150! Unfortunately I was too hasty and soon sold it again! This decision still bothers me today! It has wonderful sounds and is very versatile! 😇

I purchased a used MX61BK for JPY 37,000 ($240). I can select built-in tones from Cubase 13, which is very easy to use. I use an electric piano with a VCM phaser. It has a wide variety of built-in tones and is compatible with DAWs. I like the MX61BK. I would like to purchase MODX6+ soon. I would like to get the CFX grand piano tone.

Great review! I'm a little confused how saving sounds works but I guess its in the manual. I never figured out how to save on my MO8 but maybe this one wont be so hard, and WAY easier to carry!

Don't understand a word, but I learn more about synths from this gentleman than from almost anyone else! His skillful musicianship is a tremendous plus. This synth looks like a tremendous value for the money. And from what I've read elsewhere, Yamaha has hidden a bunch of capabilities "under the hood". The little keyboard that could! It's still around in 2020, introduced in 2012. But I do wonder how much longer before it will be discontinued (as was its MOXF bigger brother). Still a nice desktop-sized keyboard with good sounds. A computer is needed for MIDI sequencer recording using the included Cubase AI software. Those who do not own a recent Apple iPod/iPhone will miss out on some functionality. Yamaha does alienate / annoy some potential buyers who prefer Android devices.

Hi mate. Does anyone know how to adjust the factory vibrato, which brings out the Transverse Flute sound of the Yamaha MX? I have moved several parameters but nothing happens. Greetings

When compared to the MOX, the MX has a lot of waveforms missing. These waveforms are for the power acoustic drums, electric guitars and basses - the best ones in my opinion. However, you can play most of the XS voices and drum kits, because they do not use these waveforms. You can play all the pianos, organs, synths, strings, and simple guitars / basses but don't expect any power chords, heavy sounding snares and thick sounding basses. If you don't mind this, and no sequencer, then get the MX.

already tried this beast twice in my local music store. truly inspiring. the only off-point i have is my own self-doubt which is just me overthinking that it only looks like a novation midi controller and it costs around $850 here =/ havent tried the korg kross, but this thing is definitely easy to use and is packed with a huge-load of useable sounds in production these days. unbelievably good acoustic instruments sound.

Hey guys. I'm in a high school hard rock band, and I've been learning some keyboard stuff on my own for a few months now. I'm mainly playing stuff from the '60s to '80s time frame. Anyways, I'm definitely not a pro, but I want to invest in a keyboard that I can use for USB MIDI and live performance. I'm mainly looking for synth sounds, but possibly some piano and organ sounds. Other than that, the only two stipulations are that it needs some form of pitch/mod control (joystick is fine) and it needs to be affordable. The MX49 looks like the perfect thing, but I want to know if there is anything that can do more for less before I commit to anything. In case anyone's curious, I use an Acorn masterkey 49 controller with Sonic Projects OP-X (not the pro version).

just keep the midi keyboard. i use my laptop on stage just for wurly/organ sounds because i dont wanna mess with dodgy sounds that i cant change in the future. look around for some good VST instruments. the MX49 would be nice, but i wouldn't pay 500 for it.

I've had S70XS but didn't like keyboard action at all, so exchanged with KAWAI ES7 for key action (superb), but this is what I missed, a lot of sounds and MX61 makes me getting all that in affordable price, This gear is worth it's to buy just to have motif sounds!!! Highly recommended :)

HE MOTIF XS HAS LONG BEEN DISCONTINUED AND THE MOX6 IS DISCONTINUED.THAT SAID,WHY DOES THE NEWLY RE-LAUNCHED MX-SERIES ONLY HAVE 166MB OF ROM!?? THE MX SERIES IS BASED ON THE MOTIF XS(WHICH HAD 355MB OF ROM)...SO WHY RE-LAUNCH AND OLD PRODUCT AND HAVE THE SAME DAMN AMOUNT OF ROM!??
