Interesting bike. Haven't ridden one but I think It would be great on slimy cobble streets on European tours with luggage and her ladyship on board. . Will it go onto other bikes I wonder? Remember the 2wd R1? Shame that wasn't taken further. 2wd Super Tenere anyone? Or 3wd Niken..

What a brilliant mechanic Bill Younger is I would go all the way to Bennets to get my bike serviced if I thought the mechanics were all like him. I've been trying to purchase a Niken for ages but there are none around down here in Cornwall.

I have run my Euro 4 Honda on the centre stand to lube the chain and no warning lights came on. Interesting video (apart from a few flashing titles in the mid to end). Ah, no traction control on mine, maybe that’s it. Would love to ride the Niken on the road, only tried it in a car park. Handling at low speed was fine, took about 20 seconds to get used to it.

More Niken videos, please! Would like to see the video with spirited riding on the Niken. I mean going really fast, attacking the corners hard, and leaning it deep into the corners. Thanks.

Surely if rust/play was found in the steering bearings at 12000 miles that would be covered by warrenty.

This bike is starting to grow on me. If you dont mind the question what kinda of tank range are you getting? looks like thstoke 19ltr mt09 tank with more bulk to lug so im assuming its range is pretty low?
@bennettsbikesocial5 жыл бұрын
It's not massive - between 135 and 150 miles before the light starts flashing. Today I got it to 168 miles, with 25 miles showing on the fuel warning trip. Going by the pump, I had about half a litre left in there.

@@bennettsbikesocial Thats a shame, with such a mahoosize amount of space around the tank at the front you would think they could of squeezed on a few more ltrs. Thanks for the reply

So if you Dyno it, it will cause a code?
@bennettsbikesocial5 жыл бұрын
Yes, just the same as other bikes with ABS / traction control, but the dyno operator just clears the code after the runs.

you also have twice the fork stems to service when they start leaking. i dont know if they are all full of oil, or if half of them are just there for rigidity though

All it would've taken is 5 mins at an car wash to strip away all that mud. I always wash my bike before bringing it in for a service, out of respect for the mechanic.
@bennettsbikesocial3 жыл бұрын
I normally make sure everything is clean before it goes anywhere, but when you need to take it to the manufacturer's headquarters, which means getting up at 5am to ride through pouring rain in order to get there on time, it's not really practical so you have to just make your apologies. For my test of 69 bike cleaners, watch this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3_Wd3-Gecx5p6M

So pre current regs if the bike had a fault that wasn't a hard fault it would clear in one or a few heat cycles. Great, that's logical and made sense....Now thanks to meddling aholes in the EU, the bike has to go to the dealer to reset an error code regardless of being an hard or soft error AND it now locks the engine mode into whatever it was in at the time if error!!! Some less experienced riders may rely on these modes, ie if they were in full mode at the time of the error and it's now started to piss it down and the roads become greasy, they're now stuck in full power mode lol....way to go Mr EU, well done....
@bennettsbikesocial5 жыл бұрын
Bear in mind that the fault code will only come up IF there's a problem. It shows up when you run the bike on a paddock stand, which is a pain, but how can the bike know that's what you're doing? And really, you shouldn't clean a chain with the engine running; it's dangerous. If the warning light came on while you were riding, there would be a reason: In the case of it being due to a wheel speed sensor failure, it would mean the traction control or ABS might have problems working correctly, so you need to take notice. The other reason for a wheel-speed sensor-related fault is hoiking a massive wheelie, in which case, you're not going to be struggling to ride in the rain. I agree it's frustrating that the warning light won't clear itself, but if you think logically about it, it does make some sense in that if a fault is detected, it's important to find out why. And if you know why, then great. But the lockout would also stop you ignoring it. What if you cause the light to come on yourself, then ignore it as you know why, but on the next ride a real fault occurs? Though granted, if the system reset itself, you'd know! I'm not defending the decision, but in an ever more litigious world, where nothing is anybody's fault, at least if a fault is detected, it will be properly checked. Faults don't just come up for no reason - it's either through doing something wrong, or there being an actual fault. But if it really upsets you, you can always reset it with a code reader - you just need an adaptor for the Yamaha plug. The code reader I use told me that there was a fault on the front left and right wheel speed sensors, and I just cleared it. John

@@bennettsbikesocial As you said, John, less and less are taking responsibility for their own actions or situations and hence crap like this is bestowed on everyone. Common sense is rapidly dissappearing and we obviously need looking after; the noose will keep being tightened though!...anyway I still think that locking the engine power mode is wrong but hey ho....Let's take a positive thing out of this...they could've mandated a limp home mode lol!!........Take care bud.

There's also no oil in the two front fork legs, so you're not likely to have any more problems with fork seals than you would on a 'normal' bike.
