I have a PSR-S670 and my previous keyboard was a PSR-E453. There is something that the E453 have that is not found on the S670 : it's USB Audio, and I think it's a great feature. You are absolutly right when you say that the E453 is more fun than the S670. The S670 is a bigger machine, with many more features but it's not as "direct" than the E453. The "look" of a keyboard is also something that make you wan't to seat in front and play, and I just don't like the S670 on this aspect. The sounds are far better on the PSR-S670 but I sometime regret the sound of the E453 that is less perfect and less realistic but has some kind of magic charm. The things I love on the S670 that are missing on the E453 are the modulation wheel because I love playing guitar sounds, and those sounds on the S670 are really fantastic. I also love the 4 pads that can play additional MIDI phrases or audio samples, and there are very nice pad banks on the S670. I am disappointed by the synth sounds on both keyboards. I love synth sounds and I just don't understand that Yamaha that has made great synthesizers in the past have synth sounds on their arranger keyboards that sound like plastic. A basic Casio keyboard sounds better IMO. I think i will sell the S670 and buy a E453 (I prefer this one over the E463, that have lost the music database and DSP button). Speaking of Casio keyboards, I have owned a MZ-300, and played many times with some CT-X keyboards. I just don't understand that CASIO ruin these great sounding and full featured keyboards with an horrible keybed , where the keys are noisy, squeak and feel so cheap. The only Casio keybed that feel great to me is the one found on the new entry-level Casiotone CT-S. Thank you for great videos !

Not much of a views you have, but this is really quality content! I have no skill or knowledge of music but I want to start. And most of forums says "don't buy, save some more money and go with S". But you made me clear, it's all about fun and I can start with E. If I found to be good at it and feel need for better hardware than I will sell E and go for S :). Much thanks form Poland :)!

Hi nice comparison. A few comments: It would be fairer to compare the PSR S670 with the latest PSR E463, which has some features that the E453 is lacking: 1. Notably, the E463 can assign the Live! knobs to ten different DSPs (on top of the parameters which can already be assigned on the E453), so it sort of compensates for the lack of a mod wheel on the E series. 2. The E463 also has an integrated digital audio interface, which means you can record yourself on an iPad or a computer without the need of any external Interface at all, excepted for an USB printer cable (computer) or the Camera Connection Kit (iPad). 3. Moreover, this audio interface also let you control (via USB MIDI) any sound source on your iPad or computer and have the sound output going through the keyboard’s speakers, which is really cool and gives endless sound extension possibilities to the E463. Even the S670 doesn’t have this integrated digital audio interface! 4. Icing on the cake: on the E463, you can record yourself in audio directly on an USB stick, which is very convenient. No,need of an audio,recorder, a laptop or anything. 5. Also to be noted that even if it is not as sophisticated as on the PSR S670, the PSR E463 does have some (albeit limited) sampling capabilities. 6. IMHO, the white screen of the E463 is much nicer than both the blue screen of the E453 and the screen of the S670. There is one point on which I am completely agreeing with you: the E453/463 is much more fun than the S670. Honestly, I find the S670 utterly boring. Even soundwise, if it is better than the E series, I find that the new CT-X series by Casio is way above all Yamaha PSRs under the S775. Actually I had the PSR E463 at home for some time and sent it back for a refund because I found the sounds a bit outdated, although I enjoyed toying around with the Live! Knobs, DJ patterns etc. I then had the CT-X3000 for a couple of weeks and utterly enjoyed its sounds and styles, but sent it back because, as you know, the UI is a real pain in the a..e. Although I somewhat regret that I didn’t keep it, because I suppose that after grinning my teeth and biting my lip for a couple of months, I might have gotten something musically nice out of the “monster”. Hope that the successor will have a larger screen and improved UI. Finally, I opted for the CT-X800 and I am utterly enjoying it, excepted for two points: the lack of possibility to adjust the relative output levels of the Main, Dual and Split voices, and the absence of an integrated digital audio interface (I don’t want to be hooked on my big office computer, so I am still looking for the appropriate digital audio interface to record the CT-X on my iPad). I am still hesitating to trade it back for the CT-X3000 (again!), though. Such nice sounds, cool phrase pads, nice style editor if you take the time to fathom it. If I ever play with a band ( OST i probable at this stage, but who knows...?), I don’t think I would consider the S670 or the S775, for that matter. I’d probably go either for the Korg PA700 or the Casio Privia PX560 with its HEX layer and coooolll coloured digital screen, not because it is geeky, but because this is what the CTX3000/5000 are crying out for: a touchscreen to control the wealth of parameters which are hidden inside all the menus and sub- and sub-sub menus. Hope I didn’t bore you with my long post and looking forward to your next S670 video 😎👍

Wow, most detailed comment I've ever had I think :) I agree with all your points, tbh. Looking back at the video now, I think my intention to compare the boards came across more as a head-to-head challenge, which really isn't helpful as they are each for different purposes to a large extent. Still, it might save a few people a bit of fact-finding. The fun factor is paramount for me as you know. There's (usually) no making good music on instruments that annoy you. Though I'm sure I'll be giving those CT-X models a second chance once they start hitting the second-hand market. Something to look forward to!

I think the 463 gives better value, even though it has a lower specification than the 670. It's just more fun to use. For a person who is really focused on the best quality sounds though, it might be worth the extra 200-300 dollars to get the 670. Personally I just want to have fun with music and I think the 463 is great for the price :)

Nice video! I am a little disappointed with the piano sound, it sounds very very near the same sample in both keyboards. I want to buy a new keyboard to replace my old PSR 280 (yep, still have and works flawlessly), and the piano sound is very similar to what the PSR E453 has (tested on a store). I searched for videos that compare the PSR S670 with the E453 and found yours. The PSR S670 is quite superior in almost everything except the piano sound. To me it's the same sample. Do you think yamaha will update the PSR S670 this year? I think I can wait. Or do you think the Casio CT-X3000 is a nice alternative, about the piano sound?
@gearfacts
@gearfacts 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriel - those are all fair points and worthwhile questions! First of all, I thought (and I'm open to debate) that the PSR-S piano sound was a bit better in its decay. The PSR-E tends to just fade out with a digital flatness, but the PSR-S seems to modulate as it fade out, more like the real thing. But yes, it's pretty subtle. The CT-X3000 has better piano samples than both of them I think, but it's very hard to operate. I made a whole video on that subject which I recommend you watch before you hand over your money :) Oh and no, as far as I am aware there are no plans for updates to the PSR-S series, though you can buy sound packs for them direct from Yamaha. These are actual PCM sounds that can be uploaded permanently into the 32MB flash memory. Thanks for watching and posting a good comment! Gearfacts

@@gearfacts man, thanks for the answer! I watched some more videos about the S670, and I noticed the decay is a little bigger. About the Casio CT-X3000, I'll watch your videos and see how it works. Maybe I still wants it, or leave and wait for a better UI. I think that the point in buying a keyboard is not just the sounds, but the way you use it. The nords are very famous not only for the quality of the sounds, but they're comprehensive to use. Maybe easy, too? I never played on them. So, my wish is the new keyboard have a greater sound and still be comprehensive to use. Again, thanks for the answer!

I happen to have the 76 keys version of your keyboard: the PSR-GX76! And it still works, although I don't use it anymore. But it's very convenient to use this keyboard to compare it to the PSR-E series. And it turns out that a lot of sounds are the same, even on the latest PSR-E473/EW425. This is really disappointing. I'm thinking of clarinet, muted trumpet, cello, honky-tonk, grand piano, harmonica, double bass, violin, choir aahs, oohs, air choir, alto, soprano, tenor and baritone saxophones, electric guitar, harp, classical flute, recorder, pan flute, kalimba, clavi, bagpipes, shanai, oboe, English horn, French horn, marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, jazz guitar, acoustic bass, muted guitar, a lot of sounds in drum kits, church organ, accordion, orchestra hit, pizzicato, harspichord, bassoon and more :( And yes I know all the sounds of the PSR-GX76 by heart, it's the keyboard of my childhood XD
@Sedyon
@Sedyon 2 жыл бұрын
@@gearfacts Now we have the PSR-SX series :D ! These are really good entry and mid-range keyboards with most of the sounds inherited from the Tyros and Genos, unlike the PSR-E which just rehash the sounds of old cheap keyboards with only about 20 sounds of decent quality (Live!, Sweet! and Cool! voices, but there is still no S.Art!)

I don't have either of them in the studio right now, but I can summarize: The 670 has better basic sounds, but the 473 has quicker access to sample playback and a much easier operating system.
