Great tutorial. My girlfriend loves hers (Christmas gift) as she always wanted to learn piano. She had a toy piano as a kid, but no one to teach her. The Yamaha sound quality even without a speaker extension or headphones is mightily impressive. The beauty is that it is so compact, she can keep it right on her bed by her iPad. So rather than hours upon hours of Prime, Netflix etc she can map out scales, chords and song melodies. We just sat down on Christmas Day, unboxed it and benefited from you most excellent introduction video. You play well and your presentation was top-notch. Thank you!

You are the only person in one segment of the video who demonstrated the drums with out the demo button. Thank You, Now I know what the drums sound like. Good job. None of the others realized the drums can be used as a great metronome and much more. Or if they did know they couldnt be bothered to demo it. But you did ! Thanks again.

With a headphone Jack you could easily plug this in to an Audio interface and essentially have a midi controller for your DAW. Once in, your possibilities are endless for effects and stuff. These (little kid) keyboards are no joke if you really know what to do with them.

I'm thinking to get one, but was a bit worried that the keys are too small for adults- seems that's not the case though, looking at your hands. Definitely going to get one now.
@jimbrownza2 жыл бұрын
Ok so I went to get mine today. Very impressed with it so far. Great tone, keys have a smooth action and are ok for adult sized hands, decent instruction manual. More than just a toy- I'd say this is an entry level "real instrument", perhaps for those who don't know if they have the real interest to warrant spending heavy money. Later on, buy a bigger better instrument and hand this down or keep it for picnics etc. (I like that it has USB power- I'm running it off a cellphone charger, and it also works off my power bank.)

It's not for charging- it's for powering the unit, there's no charging circuitry here. But no, it's not a computer interface: power only.

I have already purchased a casio cts300 as my main home keyboard, but was curious, in the future would this be a good upgrade from my Casio sa-46 that I've used as my main handheld unit for about 8 years? Im aware the cts300 is also handheld but this yamaha seems to have some advantages over the sa-46, including a true auto accompaniment system, full drum kit and the ability to be powered from a power bank or cell phone charger. If anyone could help me decide if I should upgrade to this or keep my existing sa-46, id appreciate it, and thanks in advance
@GaryLet3 жыл бұрын
I have this yamaha and the casio sa-46...the Pssf30 is much better, no comparison really except it will eat batteries in a week. Need rechargeable or usb power pack. This f30 is fun to play and the sounds are more like their nice keys, the sa46 is more midi sounds from the 80's...drums are not bad on the sa46 but no comparison on the sounds...plus it does so much more...it's really fun to play, takes a bit to wrap your head around all of what it can do...they market it to kids but I've been playing for years, just like the little guys...if yamaha put basic midi out, cleaner audio output chip and a little pitch thumb wheel on this little guy they wouldn't be able to keep them in stock at $300. :)

Would you recommend for some who is wanting to learn to play piano? Great review btw.
@smyrnianlink4 жыл бұрын
Teachers usually recommend full 88 keys with weighted hammer action.. Sound is less important than keyfeel for learners. This is a lovely little instrument on its own. Not a piano.. They even do not recommend something like yamaha np32 which is much closer to a piano physically. I think it is because piano learning is partially finger exercise

@smyrnianlink4 жыл бұрын
@@mimi4166 Probably yes... It sounds good and it is a good quality brand.. It all depends on your own requirements. My opinion: I would like to have touch sensitive keys (if not hammer action) so would consider the sister instrument PSS A50 .. (I am also very amateur..) (in fact I will buy one of those as a birthday present to myself) It all depends on your own needs and expectations.

@@mimi4166 This would be good for just trying to find out if you want to learn piano. A keyboard with 61 keys or more would be better if you are more serious to learn. Yamaha has several keyboards with more keys that would be a little better to learn on. This one is very inexpensive compared to the larger ones, so if you aren't sure about if you really want to learn piano, try out this one, you can't go wrong.
