I bought this amplifier 3 months ago and i'm still blown away. It's paired with Martin Logan Motion XT F100 and it's making them sing like there is no tomorrow. This amplifier replaced a Marantz PM8004 and let me tell you, the difference is huge. The sound is much clearer, separation is incredible. One lastr important thing to say, there ia a long burning required to reach his full potential.. I would say somewhere between 100 to 150 hours. The sound becomes more controlled.

Yamaha has always made great recievers. I'v had NAD's, Sony's, Onkyo's that all blew up. Right night now I have the cheapest Yamaha stereo recieiver, a RS202. Been using it for over 4 years, always on with klipsch book shelf speakers and a 10" sub wired the old old way. I don't even think of upgrading. Sounds fantastic, get a good DAC/Streamer and your set.

@@David_vdkmy AS2200 needed a power supply rebuild after 4 yrs. of moderate use to the tune of $700. My vintage Marantz separates and Vincent hybrid svk mkii sound better to me but I like bass. Yamaha is very clear on top but lacks bottom end compared to other amps and I believe that's why some don't like it. I do, but its not my favorite although it certainly looks good and appears to be built like a tank.

Fantastic review! Some people seem to struggle with the huge price difference between the 1000 and 2000. But the 2000 really is on another level both in build and sound quality. The 2000 may not be for everyone. But those who know, know! 🔈🤙🏻

I was going to say I was super interested in this until I saw the price. And Yamaha needs more than YPAO for room correction. I have 2 Yamahas, and they are work horses but in 2025 YPAO is so out dated it’s a deal breaker.

When he compares it favorably, in the sense of power output and current delivery for low impedance speakers, comparing it to his amp with the hypex module, you have to remember hypex has many modules and that amp has a relatively weak one as far as their lineup is concerned. You can easily get double or triple or more power, easily more in fact, with much cheaper hypex based amps. Difference is features. You can get 350-380wpc into 8 and roughly 700w into 4 ohms from hypex for 700-1000 dollars, if you're JUST looking for a TOP TIER ULTRA HIGH FIDELITY power amp. It does not get better than hypex at any price. Between hypex and purifi options, maybe some gan-fet stuff, none of these other products even come CLOSE to comparing as amplifiers - only in FEATURES if you're into that. But you can get something cheaper that does what you want and has pre outs, and then get a real power amp. Buckeye, Apollon, VTV, sure Nord i guess (last place for high power hypex solutions)... Check out the nc500/nc500x module, mc254, Nilai, mono blocks... I mean a mono block set of bridged nc500x is like 1 or 2 kilowatts per channel depending. Purifi eigentakt version 2, also high power.

I purchased this receiver one month ago. I use it to run the front left and right speakers in conjunction with my Yamaha RXA6A 5.1 system. I have QAcoustics 5050 front, 5090 centre, 5040 rear and a Rel subwoofer. My living room is packed with soft furnishings for sound absorption. There’s no necessity for that room treatment nonsense. The quality of the audio delivered is quite exceptional at any level of volume. I find that when periodically alternating YPAO on and off, both presentations are equally engaging. Neither is it completely necessary to religiously use the subwoofer. The RN 2000A and A6A are sufficiently powerful. The RN 2000 more so. Yamaha produce great audio equipment undoubtedly. The MusicCast App unfortunately, still looks and works like it was made as a project in an under seven’s after school class. No disrespect or causal offence to under age seven audio app designers intended.

I've had them side by side with the as2200 which is very similar to the 3200. The entire as line has an elevated midrange that I didn't realize which can come across as bright. The rn2000a had a more natural live like sound. The as2200's amp section feels more powerful. I preferred the rn2000a. Plus it's a more modern piece and can be an endgame product for 95% of people. Always go back to pure direct. Just sounds to me tighter and punchy and less harsh on the ears. The vocals and some guitar with Ypao and equalizer were a little harsh. Anyway. I've had nothing but Yamaha receivers from 1983 up until the discontinued RS500 in 2014. Last year I bought an AS801 integrated amp and that definitely was not a regret. I've been using Apple Ipods as the primary source for over 20 years now. They are old tech but they sound great and they seem to function far longer than new tech. 1 of my 6th gen 160gb has delivered 15 years(over 5000 hours) and the original battery is still at 94% health. I've got 2 more just in case. I suppose the Nippon Gakki years were Yamaha's best but I've seen no reliability issues in their newer stuff and feel confident they will last decades.

I’ve had the R-N2000a for some time now and I feel little desire to upgrade it, BUT the lack of track scrubbing and gapless playback really ticks me off. BluOS and almost all other competitors offer these - even Wiim. It’s the fault of the now ancient MusicCast app. A minor correction for Gene - you can’t connect a USB drive to the USB input. It’s strictly computers for peripherals that have USB output. Even if you could use a USB drive, you would need a USB A female-to-USB B adapter. I’ve never seen such a beast.

@ I was wondering if it needed an intermediary device to access the storage. I have a Node X which supports USB storage. However, I don’t think you can connect storage directly to the USB-B port. Edit: I might add that if I do add a USB storage device to the Node, that prevents me from connecting the Node to the USB-B port on the receiver as the Node has only one USB A port. This is academic for me at any rate since I have network storage. In the gapless/scrubbing thing, I’ve contacted Yamaha about it and get the impression that they care not. So sad. If WiiM can do it, surely a huge company with resources that Yamaha has could swing it. They could contract to have have WiiM or Bluesound fix it if they cared to

I like the treatment you brought to this review, touching on these finer elements is a nice format, the YPAO bits especially, and the DAC comparison with the Denon. Brand to brand comparisons of room correction has an appeal to me. Would be fun to see YPAO and MCACC and Audessy evolve and go toe to toe in the future, They can’t just let Dirac own the market uncontested. Also as the guy who will be using the radio tuner, I appreciate the continued functionality. Even though I can get a better feed online from those exact same radio stations, the effortless ease of use is unrivaled. Something television surfing lost with the dtv transition. Kids have no idea what it’s like to flip through channels. They always have to move through menus to start up content. As much as video autoplay is an addictive mind rot, auto start and instant on is a huge musical feature. I’m guessing I’m not alone in staring at menus without watching anything. My stereo system with FM tuner basically has a music switch, like a light switch, but it instantly fills the room with musical ambiance instead of light. My local classical station is also add-free as a non-profit sponsored by a university, so that helps allot.

@ that’s a clever idea, heres a neat one too; multi channel formats seem to grow 2channels at a time, I like the idea of getting a new format and enough channels to top off the set. It's crazy that it requires paying this much money to get basic features like arc and usb audio in and bass management. These should be table stakes for an integrated amp with a digital section. If I'm paying more it should be for the hard parts - amplification, analog volume, etc. That's what's expensive. Not digital features. That's why so much integrated amp stuff just doesn't make any sense. You're getting ripped off because they artificially withhold these features on lower budget stuff - but you can just get a $200 dac and plug it in and get the same for much much less. And then you can upgrade the digital aspects, which are what have a short relevancy life.

Yes, Pure Direct bypasses the tone circuit, which includes the loudness control. Songs like Rock and Roll by The Velvet Underground take me right back. I’ve always loved the idea of “Pirate” radio, like how the British Invasion reminded Americans of their own music. In 2025 I’d say this isn’t the cats meow that it’s being portrayed as. Yamaha would have done us and themselves a favor by making it closer to their AS3200 integrated amp except give it two (2) subwoofer outputs and somewhere around 150 watts at 8ohms which doubles to 300 watts at 4 ohms. Give it the larger meters like the AS3200 which were a big sales point and price it more than their AS3200. They would have basically cemented their name in the high priced amplifiers market and offered a great competitive design against other amps already on the market. Their own M5000 model is close to what I’m thinking of except with digital DAC and twice the power. Maybe they didn’t do it because everyone would buy it and nobody would buy the C5000 and M5000 anymore.

I listened to your report, and tried to find if the amp section is Class D -- NO CAN FIND! Yamaha does not say, either?
@OHUQTU

Whathifi said: "The amplification itself is not specified, but is certainly Class-AB, although the power amp circuitry and power supply are completely independent from the ground (which made us wonder if something hybrid was going on; we’re advised not)."

I love everything about this amp except for one small complaint. When I adjust the eq to cut or boost the bass with the mechanical knob on the front of the unit the audio cuts out for about .25-.5 seconds. The audio should not cut out when adjusting the eq. Does anyone else have this problem?
@Audioholics
@Audioholics Күн бұрын
That shouldn't happen and you may want to take it in for service or replacement.

@ interesting, glad I’m not alone. It’s not a big issue for me because when I start a listening session I adjust the lower frequency response based on time of day or media. (The system is in a multi family building and I unfortunately need to cut the bass for neighbors sometimes) I just set it and forget it
@aalexstan
@aalexstan 17 сағат бұрын
@ I thought that's how it works but honestly it doesn't seem that bothersome to me, the cut off is very short and it happens only at the very first movement of the mechanical knob

Damn, you are right. There is an audio drop out for a second when enabling the tone controls. This appears to be normal operation.

4:48 you said 0.1% but you wrote 1% which is it? And yes, techinically 0.1 is within 1% but you'd never intentionally write that - 1% means it's over .1% because otherwise you would have wrote .1% 7:30 If you're comparing this to gear that has an audible noise floor in a real room then that's not much of a compliment. Was the other gear REALLY so bad that you could hear the noise floor of it? 9:38 "connect your usb dac to this" What?

Read my test report. Sometimes people don't state things correctly on camera. Try recording a video sometime and you'll understand. I meant the Yamaha has USB DAC function. You know what i meant, but you're just looking to be overly critical.

$4000 is pretty stiff Gene. I would love a comparison between this and a Yamaha from the 1980s. If we are going 2 channel then we are going 100% analog and therefor all this talk of DACs is meaningless. Better to go vintage and get a streamer for that kind of money is all I am saying...

$4K is a high price point; however, with inflation considered, I believe this unit compares well with the CR-2020 or CR-2030 of the late 1970s.
