Yamaha R1 Owner Reviews MT-10 | 1000cc Naked vs Sport Bike | First Ride & Motorcycle Review

In this video I ride Eric's (@ItsMeEricB) 2017 Yamaha MT-10 and give my honest thoughts on his motorcycle. I ride a 2014 Yamaha R1 (i've owned it for 3 years) and figured it'd be fun to get a 1000cc sport bike owner's perspective on the 1000cc super naked variant from Yamaha. This bike is a wheelie MONSTER and has the same low end power that the Yamaha R1 has, but is actually comfortable. I'd also say it has more usable power around town/commuting. Dont get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE my R1 but if you're looking for a bike that does A LOT of things very well then look no further.
This was my first time ever doing a KZbin "collaboration" and it went very well. Unless you are creating content its difficult to understand what goes on behind the scenes in terms of filming, making thumbnails, etc. So it was awesome to connect with someone that is as passionate as me about motorcycles and getting high quality content. Eric and I will DEFINITELY be meeting up in the future to make some more dope content for you all!

I've got 30k miles on my FZ10. I bought it brand new and I've loved every moment of it. Just about to get her back out on the road after a little riding hiatus. People who have ridden it have fallen in love. I literally just paid it off a couple days ago. Absolutely something that can be taken to the track, or even taken on long road trips. I put saddle bags, a tank bag, and a backpack and rode from San Diego to San Francisco in one hit with a lot of fuel stops. But it did amazingly. I rode a significant portion of that long straight bit no hands. Aside from the fuel economy which averages around 28-33, it's an all around amazing machine. 5 years later of ownership I still love her.

​@@Ballen1182 get a 2022 or 2023 MT10. Gets 35 mpg, looks gorgeous with it's vmax like ram air ducts on each side. It also now has 164 hp and a wheelie control that let's the wheel cone up and just holds it like a foot off the ground until you let off the throttle. You actually set it how you want it, so even if you pull the throttle more, it will just hold the wheel up and not go higher. So it makes a novice a wheelie expert right out the box. The paint scheme on the wheels is great too. Definitely a bike worth looking at if you want to go naked. I've got a 2012 R1, but I'm 47 now so I'm thinking of switching to a more comfortable bike, and the MT10 is in the top 3. Every review I've seen has nothing but good things to say.

Actually STD is the base mode, A is the middle slightly more aggressive mode, and B is the be careful mode.

The 2022 and up MT10, now has a wheelie mode that let's the wheel just carry off the ground and holds it there no matter how hard you twist the throttle. Plus it now pushes 164 hp with peak torque at 7k rpms, supposedly it will pull the wheel up in 3rd gear. Even with the added power, to my surprise it gets 5 more mpg at 35 mpg. The style has gone up a few notches as well. It looks gorgeous with its big ram air ducts on each side, and the paint on the rims is unique and nice. Such a cool naked bike, and you can get one still new for $14k.

@@SethKnows in my opinion I don't really need more power than that on a naked bike anyway. If you're buying a bike mainly for really high power, you're better off getting a sportbike that has aerodynamic bodywork and a larger windscreen to tuck behind. Or get some big cc Superduke. If I buy anything other than a sportbike I'm doing it to cruise. And I'm happy as long as it's faster than a Harley, which doesn't take much hp to do so 😂.

@@MrAlaska1997 I bought it at 68k. So far I’ve had it for 8 months and have ridden for 5 of them. I changed the rotor assembly to a more updated part and had the valves checked. One was .01 off! And just oil changes and sparkplugs. Runs great. Biggest thing the last owner did was change the coolant thermostat. I’m the second owner!

Great review and perspective. I love my MT-10 for everything and have to say it's a blast on the track too. Although it's so wheelie prone, I found I had to be careful on corner exits. I bought a dedicated track bike for next season, the best of both worlds. #2betterthan1

Subscribed in the last week or so and I've been loving the content. Definitely my favorite motovlogger. If there were stocks for KZbinrs I'd buy as much of yours as I could, I definitely see this channel getting big, just keep at it. I love the cinematics you do as well as the personal touch by talking a little about your life. Btw, would love to see you put a quick shifter on the r1! I'd reccomend an annitori, they're stand alone and don't require an ecu flash and not too bad to install if you work on your bike some. You can get them for around $240 shipped.

An MT10 can easily out perform an R1 on a track, shorter gearing and much more midrange (20 more hp and ft Ib's of torque than R1 from 5.5k to 8k) just propels you out of corners faster than most super sports. The only advantage Super sports have is the top speed, and a bit more lean angle.

One other thing that makes it better in the corners is lowering the forks to the third setting then set sag, then dial rebound and compression. Its night and day I promise

Got a fz10 bought new 20k miles on it now still have not wanted anything else... well other than SP model but not offered in USA 😤. Every year I take a 4-5k mile trip cruise control is awesome for long haul trip. And will carve in twisty when you decide to get lost. Iv hit fresh pea gravel at 80 and bike was easy to slow down without feeding it was washing out. Must have things tidy tail, integrated tail light, ECU flash and or fuel override system, link pipe and shorty muffler ( with a DB killer for if you go stringy places ). Been on every naked from 1290R to s1000r and ZH2. I can’t get past the sound and look. ( though I’m hesitant on test riding street fighter V4 as it might take my FZ’s place with more power )

Skip the z, people often refer to the 07 as a bigger grom so I'm sure you'd find that comfortable and fun, get the 09 if you really want that extra performance. The 07 is more of a fun bike while the 09 is a bit more serious

I've never had the chance to ride any of those bikes so I dont want to give you the wrong answer based on assumptions, but I dont think you can go wrong with any of those! If you want something to strictly hoon around on and not necessarily go fast, I'd think mt-07 or z650. TheKilaCam has an mt-07 and LOVES it. Thanks for watching 🤘🏾 #FastLaneGang 🏁

Here in Australia you need to hold a restricted bike license for 2 years before you can ride the big litre bikes. December of this year i can get mine, and i'll be buying the MT-10 straight away.

i commented a while ago about having a zx6r and maybe buying one of these. got a 2021 matte black mt10 ecu flashed, exhaust, radiator guard, rear fender delete, shes a bad mf. the bike is an absolute monster. when i ride my friends r1 or zx10 i feel like the mt10 is scarier to take off fast with. its such a beast. but yeah my mt10 is my one and done bike. its such a great bike i cant express that enough if you want one get one you will be happy af.

@@FastLaneD well i live in like the most northern part of michigan, the part that most people think is wisconsin or something lol, our roads are rough, almost have to know what the road is gonna be like some roads are literally un rideable. But my old friend from highschool randomly hit me up when he saw i had a bike and told me has a bmw s1000rr and has been track riding and wants me to come. so im kind of torn. Im thinking since my zx6r is paid off and has been such a good bike i might keep it to learn track and get the mt10 for everyday riding here. But the r1 is still calling to me, that new generation is so sick.

Those 1000cc naked bikes with a race tune, full exhaust and some weight reduction will destroy almost any bike 0-120mph - most of them got full torque at 5krpm

Question ❓ I'm a newbie rider I only having riding experience on a cruiser. I figured cruiser have bigger bikes that hold up better for bigger guys. You not being a small guy do you think you still get the same performance or money worth out of a sports bike there usually smaller and you only see small little guys racing them so I figured smaller rider better performance.

@@FastLaneD I wouldn't necessarily say it performs better but its lighter, just as wheelie happy, better gas mileage and does have the same 0 to 60 as the 10. I got a 2020 mt09 6 months ago as my second bike and have just a year and half riding experience on road total but I can tell this bike means business🤘💯 of course 5 months after I buy my brand new bike they announce Yamaha had a complete upgrade of the mt09 but looks say alot and mean alot to me I can tell u I'm not losing money on a trade in to ride a year later bike that I feel is ugly lol but that's how it works as soon as you get something nowadays the next best model is right behind it🤷‍♂️💯
