Hi mate, Iv just followed your videos and managed to get to this point, Iv checked my cylinder and I have a crack in the exact same place as you, literally identical! I live here in the UK and was wondering if you managed to get it re sleeved ? If so could you point me in the direction of where you had it done please.. many thanks

I feel your pain mate. You must be proper pissed of. Re-live too. I'm sure I speak in behalf of everyone who's watched this and that we appreciate your honesty as we couldnt see the crack from the video footage until you showed it at the end. I'll wait to see if your resleeving vid so I hope it's in your rebuild catalogue 👍

there wont be a rebuld on that engine but i do have a black r6 5eb that i will be doing a strip and build on over the winter so watch out for that

I’m hoping that when I strip mine off it’s got a good ending. I really hope the liners are in good shape if not I suspect it’s going to cost a pretty penny to renew the liners but it is what it is. Thanks for your service pal I’ve learned a lot of stuff

Hey I’m dissembling my r6 strictly for inspection and when rotating the crankshaft the chain got caught causing me to have to spin the crankshaft in the wrong direction to undo it. Will this have any negative consequences? thanks

Why these engines crack here and FZ6, New R6s, and R1s, doesnt crack there... they seem like the same design. Or i am wrong and they crack too? Maybe better cooling solutions?

I have one 5EB in really mint condition with 21000tkm.Runs perfect.Do i need to check something to maintain..? I've heard something about chain tension??And why always that first cyl?

Where will you get new liners? Can you provide more information? I have the same bike with cracked liners and finding a 5SL motor is very difficult.

im not getting the liners personally, the crank cases will be sent too an engineers, i have a few in mind, some im talking to now and others im waiting on a reply. Basically though you need to look for an engineer that can do ally block relining as its alot different to doing them on steel blocks. a 5sl engine is the best way to go as you remove the worry of liners going and they also have a better gearbox. Its quite a bit of work but no more so than stripping the engine bare for repair and building back up. my own r6 has the 5sl conversion and its faultless.

I dont understand something. These engines are not supossed to be liner less? i mean, they aren't all plated directly on the alumin, DiASil plated?

As I am rebuilding my 99 r6 currently and by rebuilding it runs and what not cleanncarbs new plugs filters brakes tires clutch etc the whole lot, now I am at the point of tackling the valve adjustment have almost 25k on the clock. If ones cylinder walls were warped, beyond a compression test I suppose, what symptoms should one experience?

they dont warp they crack between the cylinders were the coolant cant get. the symptoms will be rough running especially warm and difficult to start or even non start when warm. they will run fine with the oil cap off in this case

What would cause your timing chain when you're rotating it to pretty much come off

possibly either it not being on the crank properly or a very weak tensioner

I think a good advise would be, use good quality oil, change it at least as the manual recomends and above all, dont let you engine overheat. Overheat will soft the metal parts, so the crack would be easier, and the thermal shock can be quote powerful, and can crack the cylinder walls

All 5eb r6 do this lovely bike fast but utter waste of time buying one they ALL inevitably crack. 5sl much better also 4xv and 5jj r1 have weak gearboxes cranks and engines. Ive got a 96 Fireblade good old reliable👍👍

Never heard of or seen the issue until this video. First gen r6s are prob the most reliable years produced.

@@JRRetroRebuilds thak you im from the UK to, the R6 wasted wrecked was it because I bought one like that and rebuilt it, how ca I kind of test the engine without stripping it? i was told try build the heat for temp to pop In around 105? witch i did but fan didn't kick in but didn't cut out or anything?? but 34000 miles now.
