But your videos have sure helped solve our problems with this equipment. My mom recently brought home a Sanyo DVD player and a Philips Magnavox VCR model no. VRX363. It’s a really good unit, but it didn’t load properly. Yes, it was the mode switch. After a good clean, it works great! I always have enjoyed fixing these things, so I always was familiar with them, but before finding you, I would’ve never guessed it was the mode switch. You’re equipping me with knowledge I can use on future projects. Thank you.

Holy shit wow, i just bought this exact receiver for 40 bucks at a flea Market. It goes into protection whenever you turn it on right after you turn it on. I watched your older video on repairing old rav models where you repaired a couple wiggly solder joints and it worked like a dream, i hope it's not blown.

Yeah the dimming feature is very commonly overlooked. Night cinema and dimming are nice for late late night viewing. My RX-v1500 still going strong. Encoder cleaned out and now it is just fine. I just use an external hdmi switch.

I put an old AVR in my garage and I love it. With small speakers mounted high on the walls I can hear it all over even at background levels. Picked up a cheap 5 disc CD player also so between that and FM have enough sources to keep the tunes coming when I'm hanging out.

Yamaha made some good sounding receivers, but repairing them is no fun. I have a top of the range DSP-A2070 which developed a corrupt display, after a lot of dismantling, i found that the memory backup capacitor had leaked onto the i/c below it, badly corroding the chip pins. A new capacitor and i/c fixed it, but this one is a heavy beast, and a nightmare to work on. I was lucky to find an i/c, spares for these older models are impossible to find if they are specific to Yamaha.

Change the small value capacitors on that display driver to improve brightness.The originals are tiny but there is enough room on the track side to tack on the new larger cased poly caps.

They are good. Till they break. Then they are a pain in the ass. My next av receiver will likely be a Yamaha. At least their receivers are better than their motorcycles! I had one and it was the biggest piece of shit I have ever ridden.

There are various products you can buy now, one simply named "Keypad Fix" to recoat the carbon tabs. Haven't tried any yet, so I don't know how well they work.
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
Used it before. Works, but is expensive because once you open it, you have to use it up because it won't last.
@ctrlzyx23 жыл бұрын
It flakes off after a while. If you put it on too thick the flakes can make the connection. But used sparingly it can salvage an old remote for a bit.

It's a real shame when those displays wear out, special to the device and impossible to get. They should have all been on a 2 minute timer that dims them.
@JD-lk7im3 жыл бұрын
Some displays go dim due to bad, small value capacitors on the driver circuit.

I hate VFDs. Why didn't Nakamichi make spares for flagship decks?
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
Nakamichi went tits up. Bankrupt. The company doesn't exist. So, no company to make spares. That is generally what happens when they throw in the towel. They don't give a rats ass what happens to the users that have been orphaned. Its too bad so sad. Sucks to be you.
