@landpet3 жыл бұрын

@@landpet I'm getting sound from my TV to my receiver,I see you can turn the "ARC" off on the receiver also.
@landpet3 жыл бұрын
@@concretejungle6938 Hmm, the possible ways of that happening is 1. Your TV has ARC 2. Your device let's say the XBOX is hooked up to your receiver directly, then the receiver is hooked up to your TV. 3. You have some other audio cable like the optical cable hooked up to your receiver from your TV. ARC is when something let's say an XBOX is connected directly to your TV via HDMI for example (not to the receiver directly). Then from the TV, you can transfer the audio to the receiver via ARC (assuming your TV, the HDMI and the receiver all support ARC). If you have the XBOX connected directly to your receiver, then you don't need ARC, cause the sound will just go to your speakers or to your TV (passthrough feature).

bought the same receiver, happy with it as it replaced an onkyo, it runs way cooler than my onkyo or old sony, even when pushed , recommend you leave the 6 to 8 ohm selector at 8 ohms as turning it to 6 ohms seems to limit current at the top end , even tho im running 6 ohm speakers ,its way more dynamic on the 8 ohm setting from my experience with this unit so far, and it blows my buddys bose {blows} system away for a quarter of the price in sound and power..

4:14 time mark: "And one other note to keep in mind, make sure none of these cables are touching any other cable. That is extremely important." For the AV neophyte, this means ensuring that EXPOSED cables (the conducting wires) do not touch each other. For extremely sensitive audiophiles, isolating any cable contact may be desirable. However, for the average consumer, touching insulated wires together will have little effect on the listener experience.

Good stuff. I think the word 'budget' reciever can sometimes be misinterpreted as poor quality. I bought the new 2020 yamaha v4x reciever. It seems to me that when you buy non 'budget' more expensive ones you are mainly paying for many surplus to requirements options and gadgets which you may not require or be interested in for example..dolby atmos with gazillions of speaker options . I.just wanted 5.1 for music and movies and my choice has blown my mind. You get dts , dolby digital pro logic movies/ music or stereo etc . Horses for courses I suppose. Remember folks that budget doesent necessarily mean crap it just means it has less stuff on the back..maybe less power some might say..but how much power does one require in an average living space? It has no problem powering my 8ohm mission floor standing speakers, centre, surrounds and my Bowers and Wilkins sub woofer ..and by the way the v4 has a second sub input for hooking up that second sub to a second input if you so wish. Bottom end is great as are mid and high frequencies. There's graphic equalizer for 5 channels indiv iduallly adjustable. On the back it has 5 HDMI inputs for sound and video signals with one being e arc, 3 analog rca audio inputs, a coaxial and optical in. It doesn't have a Phono input. But I don't need it. The big brother v6 does. V4 also has wi fi, bluetooth music cast usb input on front.just tons of great stuff. Tailor to your requirements. You can't go wrong with Yamaha!

Great video! I just bought this receiver and wanted to know the best audio/video settings. There seem to be a bunch of options...Straight/Direct, a bunch of different "program" modes (standard, 2 channel, 5 channel, movie mode, drama, etc). I'd like to set it once and forget it. Also, I want my TV to do the processing (Sony X950H) where is that setting? Last, there's a huge differnce in volume when switching between Apple TV 4K and the DVR. Thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks! It comes with predefined settings, you could just leave it on the default setting. Probably utilizing all your speakers would be ideal granted some sources are only 2.1. These things are designed to be changed for different type of sources like movies, music, games. It’s hard to set it as one option but just leave it at the default which is the easy method. Not sure why there would be a huge difference between Apple TV and DVR. But here’s something you can try: manual.yamaha.com/av/18/rxv385/en-US/316718987.html

The wireless headphones that I have are Sony and they connect to the red and white audio/video on the back of the receiver. The base that the headphones get recharged in are plugged into a wall ac current. I had them hooked up before that my wife could hear the tv through the tv speakers at her low volume and I could hear through the Sony headphones that run through the receiver, so that is listening to both at the same time.
@landpet3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that but I don't think you can listen to the TV speakers and the headphones at the same time because they are two different sources. Now if you had speakers connected to the receiver, you can listen to that and bluetooth headphones hooked up to the receiver at the same time and independently control their volumes because that's the same source which is the receiver. The TV needs to know whether to output the audio through its own speakers or through the HDMI cable to the receiver, unless you have a special TV.

Optical will just pass audio, not video. Just as a heads up. If your computer has the optical audio then sure you could get sound through the receiver connected speakers however no video. If you connect it via HDMI from your computer to the receiver, then you could get both video and audio. Just remember, the source which in this case seems to be your computer needs to pass the data you want to see, so video and audio through HDMI, then you can have an HDMI going from the receiver to your TV which will show the video from your computer assuming everything is setup correctly.

@landpet3 жыл бұрын
Switch goes to the receiver via HDMI, you don't need another HDMI to go to the tv from the switch. There is an HDMI that goes from the receiver to the TV. This HDMI is the only one required to show video on the TV. Let's go through an example scenario. Let's say you have a switch, a playstation and an XBOX. You will need 4 (3 input + 1 output) HDMI cables total. So each device connects to the receiver via HDMI, since you have 3 devices, you need 3 HDMI cables. Now you need 1 HDMI cable that goes from the receiver to the TV making it a total of 4 HDMI cables.

It does let you specify small or large for front, center and surround, not sure if that accounts for anything. It would be nicer if it would let you adjust each frequency individually

Hi mate.. is optical better then hdmi.. sound wise…?
@landpet2 жыл бұрын
The simple answer is HDMI can be better since it can pass higher resolution audio but it also depends on the source of the signal. In short, HDMI is at minimum equivalent to optical or better.

Hi there, many thanks for your explanation on using this receiver, some I understood and some I didn't :-), let me start off by telling you I am an old guy that doesn't really understand electronics/sound set-up etc.. I followed the instructions to connect this unit to my LG smart TV, so arc to arc for the HDMI cable and connected the speaker wires (which have been on an old Kenwood receiver - no Arc ) Turned it on and firstly tried the FM station, no sound, then the TV - no sound. I tried the "set up" button and I get to speakers and a request to configure, but no instructions in the user manual on how to configure. I noticed you have instruction on your TV, how do I get this on my TV? Or is an LG different.. BTW - I am using KZbin TV - not sure if this makes a difference. Your help would be appreciated..
@landpet3 жыл бұрын
No problem. A few things to check: 1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC, it needs to otherwise it won't work. 2. In order to see the receiver menu, you must select thr HDMI source of the TV that goes to the receiver. Meaning you connected the receiver to hdmi2 of your tv whish is the HDMI source that also supports ARC. Then you need to be on hdmi2 on your TV. 3. Go to your TV settings and verify ARC is enabled. 4. Select the output audio source on your TV to either ARC or Auto. 5. Just to make sure your receiver is working, connect a device to one of your receiver hdmi's directly and play a video/audio file, anything with audio and verify you are getting audio.

@@landpet Thanks so much, to make sure, I have ordered an HDMI cable that supports ARC from Amazon, should be here today. Not sure I understand point 2. I am using KZbinTV which I pick up from bottom of my screen alongside HDMI1 and also HDMI 2, Netflix etc etc. Incidentally the ARC connection on my TV is HDMI3. How is HDMI2 or 3 related/connected to KZbin TV? On my TV if I enable ARC/optical then no sound from TV speakers?? Is this OK?? I tested this setting - no sound from TV speakers... Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn't connecting to KZbin TV also be a test for the receiver which is why I purchased the receiver? But will connect a DVD. BTW - Receiver operates when pressing buttons etc, pressed "Set Up" but cannot get HDMI Control on, just stays on "Off" With all the settings , even when I get the sound operating, still a lot of set up re speakers, config etc..Quite complicated. Thanks again

Hi, the receiver subwoofer pre out to the active subwoofer not working, NO sound. Why?
@landpet3 жыл бұрын
Verify the power is on for the subwoofer, they usually have their own power. Raise the "volume" on the subwoofer as well, typically on the back of the subwoofer. Verify the cable is working. Verify subwoofer is enabled on receiver which it should be by default. Test the subwoofer on something else if possible, I've gone through 2 subwoofers, both stopped working. Had nothing to do with this receiver, just generally speaking, meaning I've seen them fail

What if none of my hdmi ports on my tv are labeled as arc? Will it still output all sounds to the receiver
@landpet4 жыл бұрын
It depends, does your tv support ARC? You can Google the model number to see if it supports it, if it does to see which hdmi port supports it, unless they all do.

If your TV doesn't support arc, you can get audio through an optical cable which most TVs have

I've been able to get my PlayStation to connect to the receiver when I use Input 1 (ARC specific input) on my TV but when I want to use my smart TV for applications like Netflix I cannot get audio through the receiver. I've tried all of the input options. Nothing else is plugged into the receiver besides the ARC HDMI and the single HDMI for the PS. The only thing plugged into the TV is the single ARC HDMI. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
@landpet3 жыл бұрын
The ARC input port on the TV should be used to connect to the Output Port of the Receiver. Plug in the Playstation to any of the other ports on the TV or the receiver. On the TV, set it up so you are using ARC for your audio.

@@lbutler My bad, I misunderstood. 1. Verify your HDMI cable supports ARC or eARC 2. Check your TV options, on my TV I need to specifically go into the settings and enable ARC functionality and set that as my output for it to work.

what is the YPAD MIC for?
@landpet4 ай бұрын
it's going to calibrate the speakers to give the user the best listening experience. So you want to place that mic where you would normally sit while it's calibrating. After calibration, it's no longer needed unless you want to calibrate again.

Your TV might be trying to send the sound to your receiver through ARC. Set your input source of the receiver to "TV" and see if that works OR go to your TV settings and select the TV as the audio output instead of ARC.

Make sure it’s not sharing power with too many other devices. Just an fyi, the higher the volume, the more power it takes to send to the speakers. Make sure its getting airflow, it could be overheating if its squeezed in somewhere.
