Bought mine in 93. Still love it. It may not be at the top of the heap, but it's durable, usable, practical, noise-free, got post and pre-FX, and has enough parameters to keep you happy but it's not overwhelming. It may be the last FX I will sell.

Yeah, exactly! It’s perfect when I get the itch to take some rack stuff on the road but cringe at the thought of my old lexicons getting tossed into the back of a truck.

Awesome video man, since getting the FX900 I’m really enjoying that tonal character that it seems only Yamaha reverbs have. Kind of gritty sounding and nostalgic for me

Yeah! That’s awesome man, there’s something about them that works for me too. They don’t disappear into a live space either like super realistic reverbs do.

Man there's a lot to unpack here on how versatile your style of playing is. You sound like a seasoned session guitarist. How you enhance the twanguiness of the tele sound by plucking with fingers with your right hand instead of strumming is really neat. No idea if the over pronounced attack sounds offensive to country music guitarists. I'm not into country. But it sounds cool to me. And overall, your playing is very controlled. Say, have you done a symphonic chorus shoot out between all of these yamaha efx boxes?. I'm wondering which cheapest yamaha box would give me that symphonic chorus and if the algorithm has changed through all the different iteration of yamaha efx gear in the last 4 decades

Thanks for the super kind words man! I was a shredder as a kid, a country/rock guy in my 20s and a big band guy until recently. Trying to rediscover my roots and get my own voice. It’s slow going lol. I did do a video where I shoot out a bunch of Yamaha rack units but I left out a few in my collection that would have been interesting. If you can find an old Rev5 or 7 for $120 or so, that’s gunna cover all your basses for classic 80s/early 90s studio sounds. I also did a video with a couple of the smaller Yamahas, like the FX500 and EMP100 which both have symphonic as well. If you can find an fx900 for cheap, that’ll be a straight shot to shoegaze Valhalla also.

@@cliftonwright7081 What does the whole "finding your own voice" mean to you though. Btw, do you have a playlist with your original music in your channel Alright, thanks for the gear suggestions. I'm checking out your SPX shootout video as we speak. I think I'll get either the FX700 or FX500/550. They're closing at around ¥3000 on yahoo J. Can't afford anything higher than that. But now I'm also looking at the spx-900. It's at the perfect price spot. Cheaper than the spx990 and slightly higher than spx90. The FX line looks like a guitar multieffect unit with a bunch of stuff I don't need like amp sim and compression

Good times back then with the 19" units. I remember how excited I was getting the Intellifex. But then.... who focuses on the gear here? 😂 You could plug straight into a bag of wet hammers and we'll enjoy it. You could do a "steal my country licks" video. Hm? You wanna? You wanna???? Do you???? 👀

Going through patches like this always teaches me that I have no imagination to gauge if a reverb is good or bad. Like on MPX-1 I would've never stopped at the PCM 60 Room unless I was told PCM 60 is like a golden standard, and if I didn't know the way to do it in rack is to have heavily wet parallel reverb mixed into the direct signal. In line it sounded like a big and annoying, unusable mess. Mixed in parallel it was awesome. This one is a nice video though. When I was thinking of getting SPX, I had my eyes on 90 due to the recognition and popular users. At the time there were plenty of 900 and 990 and such on the market and the looks was not as pleasing, but I was wondering how much the improvement of technology and revisions changed the sound and to good or bad (perhaps they were better studio reverbs but worse guitar effects). After watching this I can't still say, other than that the limited amount of patches in 90 is nice for my brain. 90-II is probably the coolest of them just because of the turquoise framing of the front panel elements.
@cliftonwright7081
@cliftonwright7081 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, the 90II is probably my favorite for that same exact reason haha. I also like how thick and gritty the lower bit depth modulations are. This one had a nice 7/8 year run before being replaced by the 2000. It was also designed by a completely different team that I believe was based in the UK. I like the internal layout they came up with more. Way easier to replace the power supply with an aftermarket unit.
