For the wind shield, i use cable tie to connect to the fairong/frame. when i crash, the cable tie will break first and its easy to replace without the need of tools. No it wont rattle and sustain high speed even with 100x2.5mm i use. maybe this could benefit you too

This is very good point! Indeed that will be good solution, my windshield has been ziptied to the frame on Honda in the end as well. The fame could still crack but the zip ties may just absorb enough energy before snapping to dampen the impact. Thanks!

Just arm chairing here, but I would definitely look into a guard for the water pump! 2 review videos, where the reviewers have witnessed other riders have a simple lay over on the bike and it sprung a pin size hole in that pump housing. Not a good time out in the wild, especially the way you ride, probably a miracle you didn't rip the whole housing off tbh XD

I have a big problem: I do not have Tenere yet xD! Jokes aside, hesitating between #Honda Africa Twin and this #Yamaha. @FAR&FURTHER It's great you share your experience with this one. 2:01 Looks like Yamaha engineers said: lets keep that weak point for next 2022 version update - otherwise I see no reason why to keep such a front fork flow - did they tested hard this machine before releasing it? Next, 3:52 Yamaha made awkward design for the lower suspension linkage especially this bike is meant to be an off-road bike. Certainly no bike is perfect, but this Yamaha is pretty close to it - Hello #Yamaha are you listening your real users? Hope so ;)
@FARANDFURTHER
@FARANDFURTHER 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, well no bike is perfect. I have to say that the lower linkage is not an issue really. I've now done Dinaric Rally with it and the rear linkage is least of the problems. You would need to do some really dificult single tracks and rock steps in order to get close to damage the rear linkage. Yes when I was training jumping over the rocks... than it matters.

I have a full Rally Raid converted CB500X that i am very pleased with, the Tenere 700 has been a bike that was thinking about getting... what is your take on this, will the T7 be worth switching to, even thou it will cost me the doubble of what my CB is worth ? I ride gravel roads and forrest roads besides normal driving on pavement aprox 70/30. Looking foreward to hear from you.
@comfortablyunknown700
@comfortablyunknown700 4 жыл бұрын
I had a CB500X with the full Rally Raid conversion. I live in Los Angeles and I was always looking for 6th gear with the CBX. With the T7 that I now have, I barely need to go into 5th gear and there is still a 6th. Both bikes have similar nibble handling. The T7 just has so much more power. I am not lucky enough to ride on my imaginary massive property or go across the street for off-road riding. I have to be on the highway for a while, so I need a bike that can handle the higher speeds. The T7 is a champion off-road.
@comfortablyunknown700
@comfortablyunknown700 4 жыл бұрын
Also, after doing the full Rally Raid conversion on a new CB500X, you are at the out the door price of the Tenere 700. If you bought a used CB500X then added Rally Raid, you are at the ticket price of the Tenere 700.

@@comfortablyunknown700 Excellent point....It seems the problems of the T7 in this review is so minor and solvable...The rest is up to us..how we handle the T7 and enjoy its superior engine and basic (great) qualities... bravo...mate
@FARANDFURTHER
@FARANDFURTHER 3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for late reply, guys here made good points. I've upgraded to T7 because I was really looking for something which would allow me harder off-road than RR CB500X. If I'd not aspire to ride a rally for example (done Dinaric rally recently) or do a lot of sand riding in Africa there would be no need to upgrade CB500X as it would be enough for the travel. However once you do reach limit (off-road) on CB and you recognise that you reached it the T7 is natural upgrade. I still have CB500X and rode it recently and the difference in handling off-road and standing position is immense... It is up to us to be honest with our needs... Dinaric rally on CB500X would be hard, my previous trip to India I done on CB500X would be less comfortable and more expensive (fuel) on T7....

Yes and no... During all my travel and training I've managed to scratch the water pump only with my metal tip on my boots. Initially I thought I'll do some protection for it but it seems fine for now. Still in rocky terrain I think it is exposed and if one would ride hard and drop hard, there is a risk of damaging it. Possibly... lets see on the Dinaric rally in 2 weeks.

Hi Bob, I have done multiple long days, longest was 900km and I would definitely not say it is uncomfortable but of course after 900km in a saddle you feel it. @@FARANDFURTHER I have a KLR 650. I love this bike, but want more power for highway riding. Even with my front cog changed to 16t the klr works to hard at 120-130 kmph. @FARANDFURTHER
@FARANDFURTHER 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, have no experience with KLR650 but the reason I wanted the twin and not single was the comfort, the vibration at the highway speed is very minimal on CB500X and even less on T700. T700 engine is happy at that speed more than the CB500X one was. In terms of power the T700 has more than enough for me with luggage and when I'm doing enduro training it has a bit too much and as it lacks all the bells and whistles it becomes all about skill. These things I really like about T700 I think as I find the T700 being upgraded CB500X you may find it to be upgraded KLR650 ;)

With the abs, at least it's only a button to push and not a full maze of settings to go through.. So I don't see that as a problem

I am 100% grateful the bike actually does not have a menu. It would just be cool to turn off the auto enabling of the ABS in certain conditions, like my training sessions or days doing off-road traveling. But even for that, if I really want a kill switch for ABS could be fabricated.

The AJP PR7 has a kill switch that allows you to switch the bike off without having to turn the ignition switch off which keeps all the electronics up and running. Clever idea

For the exhaust problem, just cut it off for sport/shorty one. Watch out for another potential problem - weak, alu peg mounts... Some guys broke them already. BTW I know now I won't replace my old xt660 tenere :)
@FARANDFURTHER
@FARANDFURTHER 4 жыл бұрын
Do you think cutting the exhaust to shorty one would solve it? I guess it could, I thought about changing the piping angle so it clears the swing arm. I think I saw people putting shorty exhaust and it solved rubbing off the swing arm but didn't solve the problem of exhaust being bent inwards all the time.

No problems. Buy an english, german, american or italian bike and you will have real problems to deal with. Eletronic failure, oil leaking, gearbox issues, broken frames ( Áustria) , the list goes on and on. Japanese bikes when it comes to reliability are in another planet. You can but a 1000cc Japanese sportbike and race Le Mans 24 hour race, stock.

YAMAssHAt took 3yrs + to develop the Tenwhere 700, they only needed a chassis,the engine was already in production,thank the Gods they dont make planes or medical equipment The exhaust shoulda been higher like on the Stupor Tenere 1200 easier fix would be to change angle of the can so it clears the swingarm by changing the link pipe along with a replaceable upper bracket instead of welding it to the frame
@FARANDFURTHER
@FARANDFURTHER 4 жыл бұрын
When I was back home and we were preparing the bike for the trip, the change of the angle and the pipe was suggested. However it was time consuming and quite costly at the time so I abandoned that idea. It may be relevant though as the swingarm is getting thinner every day...

It is pretty obviously that Yamaha is just running a world wide R&D project. They did just enough R&D to get it out of the factory. Now leaving the rest to the general public. The T7 has been out for almost two years. We here in the US still have not had a chance to ride. We have had a long time to see the faults in the bike. First, and I think most importantly, it is overpriced. There are many other faults we have all heard, nothing too major. In a year or two, Yamaha will put out a new version. Majority of the faults will be corrected....not all. They will add a handful of the parts that were left off this T7....but put on every other ADV bike that came out this year. Then we will see why Yamaha placed that overpriced ticket on this base model. The new version's price tag will be up there along side the bigger ADV bikes that cost an arm and a leg.

The "faults" on the T7 are really minor compared with some of it's competitors. I've had mine since last Oct and love it. I agree that it's not a "cheap" bike for what you get, but it's still a great all round bike.

@@fenner-g6088 I did say the faults are "not major" aka "minor". They do play a role when adding the cost to fixing the faults, on top of the initial bike price. So, all are worth mentioning, even if minor.

I can feel the frustration of the US market over this bike, it has been kind of never ending story really. I'm sorry. I suspect that what you see comming in a year or two will most likely happen, I think there could be 2021/2022 upgrade. I had that with Honda CBC500X, when I bought it in 2013 and later in 2019 they released new version which had almost all modifications I added to my old model. Honda did keep the same price though so it made a 2019 model a good deal. I hope Yamaha will do similar thing with T7, in a bit shorter time frame.

I disagree that's it's a "world wide R&D project." I've worked in the industry (on the media side) and Yamaha has correctly priced this bike for what it is. They did NOT want it to be overly heavy (oy, the complaints from riders that anything over 400lbs is not an ADV...), they did not want to add cost with all kinds of electronics or making it "rally ready."* The only other mid-size near that price is the BMW F750GS which only adds stability control and 2 ride modes but costs $1,000 more and comes with cast wheels. And the T7 is lighter than all of the competition except for the KTM 790 Adventure (not the R), CB500X and the 2018 (!) KLR650 (still available at a lot of dealerships). After those bikes the prices jump thousands of dollars but you basically only get more electronics and 50+lbs more weight. Even that KTM *starts* at $13,249 (including delivery) but the goodies like Rally Mode, quick shifter and cruise control are all extra. Even those bikes are going to want stuff like crash bars, bash plates, Barkbusters, etc. So even throwing a grand or two at the T7 still gets you a great bike with little if any sacrifice to those others and a few grand saved. And maybe you *are* right--maybe the T7 should be priced closer to the MT-07 or MT-09 but it is what it is--and that, from all of the reviews I've seen, is pretty damn good, on-road AND off. The keys the reviewers all like are: easy to ride, good power for the size, reasonably comfortable, easy to handle off-road. *Re: "rally ready": the honest truth is that a LOT of these bikes are purchased for their looks and/or "aspirationally" ("Yeah--I'm going to ride to the Arctic Circle now!") and will never go off road or on anything more challenging than a graded dirt/gravel/logging road (likely me to be honest because I don't have extensive dirt-riding experience). So that's why they don't come ready to go-around-the-world because adding all the guards, racks, and electronics would jack up the cost--like a fully outfitted KTM or BMW will.
