100%. There are so many bikes i could get instead of my Tenere from my sofa, however every time i ride it i forget about it all, and absolutely enjoy the hell out of every single ride i do. There is definitely something about the T7 that makes you feel alive!

@@PatchedBandit quick question mate. I noticed you haven’t got a dedicated sat nav. I have an older Zumo that i use as a background nav mounted on the screen and a quadlock with an old iphone on the bars. After 17k km i can pretty much say i could live happily with phone nav (Google maps, waze, etc). My only gripe is waterproofing of course. My zumo is a tank in all weather including dust and dirt but the tech is very obsolete. What’s your setup for nav?
@PatchedBandit

I use an old Iphone 11 and Samsung Galaxy S9 with quadlock mounts on both of my bikes. Most new phones are waterproof so rain and splashes are not a problem. BUT cable charging is not going to work with any phone when it's raining and this is why I use the quadlock wireless charge pucks with my bikes. Wireless charging works in all conditions. Both these phones have pretty dim screens compared to something newer so if I was getting a phone now I wouold put my money towards phones that have close or more than 1000 nit screen.

Agree about the X-factor, recently did 1800km on a KTM 890 and it just didn't excite me like the T7, it got me from A to B but when I got back on the T7 the big smile returned to my face. On suspension yeah the T7 isn't great but I was surprised the 890 wasn't any better on the road possibly worse (may well be better off road), my conclusion was the 890 moved the body, the T7 moves the soul. Just my opinion though.

I’m 6,2 tall (1,90 cm). I got the problem that bikes are usually too small for my size. I have not tried the tenere already but I think I will fit in perfectly. I have another option but your video showed me what I needed to see. I want a fun bike, not too powerful but enough to do whatever I want when I will get some experience on off road. The other option is the new Enfield Himalayan but I think I could get bored after a few years after using all its potential. Otherwise I’m already thinking that could not be another analogic tenere like this, maybe also Yamaha will put some more electronic in their future bikes, and I will not like that. I will try both bikes and I will see what they will give to me, but I will be searching for the same emotions you had on the tenere 700 and I don’t think that the 40 horsepowers of the new Himalayan should give it to me.

After 21Tkm on my T7 I agree with the suspension comfort issue of the stock components. I changed the stock rear spring against a stronger linear spring from OFF-THE-ROAD and the T7 improved slightly but it's still not really comfortable, compared to the BMWs I had before. Therefore I decided to opt now for an Öhlins suspension upgrade (front and rear) and just did the shock replacement. I hope there is some dry season to come so that I can do a test ride within this year. In case you miss some PS/Nm compared to the Aprilia think about a new ECU map that takes care of your SP-1, too. Especially EUR5 models do benefit from it. What I like: - the look (Rally Edition) - reliability - CP2 engine - low fuel consumption (3.6-4.1 L/100km) What I dislike: - incorrect speedo (+10% easily) - 12h clock - Rally seat (improved after mod) Greetings from a 1,88 m tall rider from rainy Germany, Bernd 💙💛🏁🤛🏼

Great comment! I do agree on all accounts. Would love to test an Öhlins T7 at some point but it is an expensive upgrade to a fairly inexpensive bike 😅 If I'm gonna keep the T7 I might go with the DECAT and ecu tune come next season... If I can find a good deal 😁 Thanks for the comment!

..my advice on the 690: The KTM 690 Enduro sold before the 2019 model year has the "old" engine, which I strongly urge you to avoid at all costs. There were many problems with rocker arms, oil pump (plastic gears) In throttle body on 2014 are also plastic gears which wear out..etc Believe me, I'm a motorcycle mechanic here in Slovenia we had quite a few identical problems in the workshop. The "new" engine uses a valve train that is significantly different from the valve train of the previous version of the engine. The old engine had problems with the rocker arm bearings failing, and the staking used to retain the rocker shafts in the rocker arms was another failure point. If we don't buy a new 690 ..don't sell Yamaha Tenere 700 ...for enduro, buy old 2T KTM 300, Sherco 300, Beta 300 .. and enjoy By any means.. enjoy and let's hope spring will come soon 🏍 😂

It makes a lot of sense to me, also 1,75 but i don't agreed with you in the part that the bike lowered don't feel different, maybe it's because you get used now, the steering feels more heavy and slow. So with a good trade proposition i decided to sell the T7 and got an 890, so far i didn't regret, the things i like most on the T7, the looks, but not on every angle, the engine sound, and the riding position up, but if you feel that way stay with the T7, i also commented on the new video of the 790 before i saw this one, on the 790 you will also need to do something with suspension, cause it's very basic, but it's more confortable. Beside the heavy top feel of the T7, other things it made me trade was the electronics, more fuel capacity, tubless and the power on the road, off road the T7 it's enough.

Many riders realise the height of the T7 only after fixing the stock suspension sag. Met many riders that ride the t7 with the stock springs and after they sit on the bike its lower than my lowered bike because the suspension cant take their weight. I’m not saying that tenere is not rideable stock and with correct sag even with shorter riders than you. But sag is the first thing everyone should fix on these bikes.

Hey man, great video. I'm the same height as you 176cm and I'm riding an XT660R, but height was never an issue for me, so i was unpleasantly surprised that T7 is too tall for you. There were many situations with my bike that i thought if it were 10kgs heavier i would be in trouble, and mine is 187kg wet, although it is so top heavy, sometimes it feels like 300. But i REALLY want a T7. Thats why your words were like a knife to my chest haha. Worst part is, i want the world raid edition, which is 220kg but tanks are lower. What do you think about the world raid?
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit Жыл бұрын
This is probably not a popular opinion but I see very little point in buying the WR model. It is 16 kg heavier at all times due to the tanks and other component changes. The suspension is still not anything fancy even though it is slightly improved with preload adjustment in the forks for example. But how many times do we really use the preload in the forks.. usually once and the spacers are an easy install. I would go as far as to say with the correct springs there is no need for fork preload. If looks is the reason to go WR I get it but I personally like the slim design of the standard bike. I would go T7 shopping with some reality checks in mind. It's an awesome bike but most riders like me are not going to test it's limits offroading any time soon. There is a special fun factor taking the big T7 in some rough terrain but you have to ask yourself for what purpose do you buy the bike and do you ride in a group or mostly alone? As a general purpose gravel machine it is awesome and fun. But like me... I have 2 bikes because T7 is too heavy for some applications (for me) 😁
@ferdogrgic1410
@ferdogrgic1410 Жыл бұрын
@@PatchedBandit Thank you for the reply! Yeah, I agree with you on everything. And yes, it is about the looks, for whatever reason the WR looks so much better to me. I had a feeling for some time already even with my bike, there is no unicorn, the answer is 2 bikes.
@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit Жыл бұрын
True.. And what comes to the WR looks it's just the GS syndrome we are all being sold 😁 You can think about it like this: you have a 16kg decoration on the bike. The extra weight is going to compromise the bikes handling in technical terrain and the standard model is plenty heavy to be stable on road. Even the standard bike is too heavy. Also consider that it's the same engine. The smaller bike is going to be faster. My luggage for my 3 month Greece trip was exactly 16kg with the bags. That's a lot of weight to carry around before even packing anything to the WR model.

Ice on the roads! It's winter soon. Thank goodness we can still ride a month or two without salt on the roads. The tracks in Bavaria would be okay for most of the year, but getting there could ruin you nice bike. Salt is aggressive! I like the Tenere 700, but it would be not much of a change from my old Transalp 600. More modern, yes. Vastly different, no. Certainly much more X-factor. The Transalp is a reliable washing machine ;-) I'm tempted by the Kove 450 (low version). Now it has passed the Euro 5 hurdle (will lose about 9 hp) and will be available soon in Italy - thanks to EU I could plate it in Germany. There is not much change needed, only luggage and maybe 2 more teeth on the back wheel. Let's wait for EICMA news. What are your plans for 2024? Günter/Nürnberg PS: My "hooligan machine" is a Aprilia Tuono 1100 V4 ;-) Only with a sobre head.

I'm very interested in testing out the KOVE myself and I'm waiting for it to arrive here in Finland during the wintertime. At least I'm gonna try and grab my camera and go see the bike in person soon'ish but riding it is probably gonna have to wait until spring... That is if they are not crazy enough to let me test one with spikes .. I will do it if they do 😆 Now that I have the new Patched VAN I can avoid all the road salt during winter so I will most likely do a lot more content when the winter season actually starts. Spikes require a bit of ice to work properly so I will need to wait a bit still. ps. I would not survive a roudy roadbike.. I had a Kawasaki ninja R9 for 4 summers when I was young and got in to too much trouble with it 😂

it all is dependen of the user , view, purpose and also the contrast. i mean, when you don´t know a Aprillia and only have a Tenere, you can still do things with. i personally used it not appropiate in terms, that i actually 99 % toured with it and rode a few dirt tracks here and there, but i must say i love the looks, the motor (really love it), and have 112000 on the clock. no problems yet. what´s to complain. other than: i really had to pracize uturns, because of the height, my missing skills and the unnvering height, where you feel like leaning on Eifel Tour in the beginning of the riding career :D Great video. would i have had the opportunity to compare this bike a bit more to others, i suspect i would come to similar conclusion, the suspension, well (sufficent for me sure enough) , but the excitement i get from riding this...wow :D

@PatchedBandit
@PatchedBandit 8 ай бұрын
It will do the job. Not the most comfortable but you should definitely test ride the bike as It is plenty good enough for most riders. Longest day I have on this bike is a 1000km only stopping for gas and a quick bite to eat. The bike performed just fine. The stock springs might be a bit soft especially if you plant to carry luggage but very light luggage is fine with just adjusting the preload. Rally-Raid sell springs if you want to upgrade the springs front and back. This will increase the comfort too as correctly sprung bike is going to help the suspension to work correctly in the right suspension range. It's a great bike and might be the most realiable option for sure. You will be lacking in some of the tech other bikes offer like tracktion control, cruice control etc. though.

I would like Yamaha or some other Japanese company to make a bike like the KTM 690. As for the Ténéré, I don't like the lines, the one with two tanks is a little prettier, but even in normal mode I don't like the lines. I like the XT 600 lines from 88. white and red or black and red. Furthermore, it's heavy, I like a motorcycle for off-roading, but one that you can lift the front wheel with acceleration and it doesn't weigh 200 kg, so the 690 with a Japanese engine would be ideal, but it doesn't exist, at least until today. and I don't want to pay €12,000 for a KTM 690 which apparently still has mechanical problems, unlike this Ténéré, the 600 cm³ and 650 motorcycles from Suzuki, Yamaha Kawasaki and Honda stopped existing in Europe a long time ago, and there is nothing to fill this gap except for the KTM 690 that I don't trust

I feel you. I have the same thoughts too. Tenere is a lot of work in tough situations and usually I don't dare to take it swimming in a swamp if I don't have riding buddies to help me out .. and even still it's not great to drag it out. I think the T7 is a nice all rounder but definitely not to be taken as a dedicated offroad bike.. even though there is a lot of great videos to argue that statement most of us can't do what Pol does 😁 Anything between 120-160kg and I'm always interested but maybe the manufacturers will notice us shouting one day 😆

My 2019 T7 has 50.000 km on it. Issues so far are wheel bearings and gear indicator. When I replaced the rear spring with one suited for my weight everything fell into place and the bike was nice to ride. I live in Denmark so can only afford one bike so it's my do it all bike. It fuxing sucks to pick up when it falls over and I have issues with turbulence noise when doing more than 80-90 km/h and has not been able to find a solution to it yet but besides that it's a great bike

With these small fairings some wind noise is always expected. I installed the little flap that yamaha sells and it helps... but it's UGLY! 🤣 I ride without it most of the time as when making videos it's just too much in the frame.

What did you do to ruin the wheel bearings? Never heared anyone about them giving out that soon

@@jackarock6425 nothing that I know of. The new ones held up for almost 40.000 km
