The Tuareg is better than Tenere in many aspects, but for whatever reason the Tenere is more demanded, maybe by the Yamaha reliability or a better promotional campaign, I don’t know.

@PatchedBandit18 сағат бұрын
Yes you can! Norway TET doesn't really have any hard sections in it so it is doable with most bikes and tires. I would still recommend at least a 80/20 tire as some of the gravel bits can feel jumpy on a full street tire. I had Pirelli STR Rally's which are prefect for this kind of trip :) Have fun!

I'm definitely trying to keep the NX at or below it's starting weight as this little engine doesn't deserve a fat body on top. Some protection is absolutely necessary but I have some ideas on that too to save weight... revealed later .. maybe.. 😄 Thanks! The new garage is in heavy use during wintertime. @@PatchedBandit Do you know if there is camshaft that reduces the compression ratio for the crf300l ? I am hoping to reduce the vibration and the wear this way.
@PatchedBandit6 сағат бұрын
I'm not a specialist in this matter so cant say anything super profound here but.. I can throw a few thoughts that arise from this 1. CRF300 is one of the most stable signle cylinder bikes with very little vibration so I'm not sure how much more it could even be avoided in a single cylinder bike. There is always some force that creates vibration with a thumper. 2. As the stock bike already produces only around 27 horsepower are you really willing to drop that even lower to potentially reduce 1-5% vibration? 3. These Honda engines are extremely reliable so I wouldn't be worried about excess wear on the engine at all. Also these engines are not that expensive to replace if you really do more than 100k on your CRF 😄 Cam wear is also not a known issue with these bikes so don't worry about them. 4. At some point you are probably better off just looking at a twin cylinder bike like Honda NX500 if you want a smoother ride and better travel comfort.

Thank you for the comment :) Here I was kind of pushed against a wall as I was not supposed to even be here answering questions anymore so I knew I had some time to do as much as I can. But I feel like most people push their dreams to the imaginary "some day" box that never ends up happening. Also we enjoy different things at 20 than 80 years old so people should definitely set a deadline and start moving towards their dream/goal in their day to day life. Life is also better when you have something to wait for and not it being "some day" but actually something real. Also I see so many people making excuses "I cant because of this and that and the third thing". Many of those excuses might be completely meaningless when you are faced with a life expectancy of months.. not decades. We can't live like its our last day everyday but something in-between is better than "some day"

Great Video! Thanks for making it! I've only seen people on KZbin comparing the Action 5 to the GoPro13 and the Insta 360. I wanted to upgrade my GoPro Black 8 that has a good landyard on it to work and look nice. It had a lot of miles on it. I ride a bike and film with my camera on the handlebars. I also DJ in nightclubs and I never use the GoPro 8 in dark places. Thanks for pointing out the HDR Cartoon stuff. I am a kid when it comes to settings on a camera but, now I understand it a little better. I don't like the legs on the Action 5 and that clip on stuff. They look too long and someone mentioned in a review that the camera shakes a bit if it's mounted on a bike that is riding on a bumpy path. I wish the legs were shorter and made out of metal and not plastic. Maybe they sell a better mount for the Action 5? It's one thing that is making me hesitate not to buy it. I vlog with the pocket, and just bought an osmo 4 for so I have a waterproof cam when I'm vlogging at the beach or at a pool party - not really typical ACTION shots. But I came to the same conclusion as you, the 5 is not enough of a difference to justify basically double the price. I paid $209 for the 4 as of December 2024. Great comparison! Not that I know of but it would be nice to have especially with these adventurebikes. Like Tenere 700 is one of if not the hardest bike to lift that I have ever lifted up myself. Even though on paper it is one of the lightest bikes. I have thought about setting up some kind of standard measuring method for these but its kinda tough to come up with a method that would be the same with every bike. Especially hard without spilling fuel and doing the test without fuel is not really realistic anymore.
@NXAussie5006 күн бұрын
I'm also 174cm or 5ft 9 inch.. I agree 100% about the T7 as I spent $4k upgrading suspension and lowering it by 50mm.. Same shoe, still VERY top heavy. I loved looking at it in the garage but struggled with the weight, so I sold it too. Now, like you I have the NX500 and loving it. We always throw money at any bike we buy.. I'll be following your build and will compare with mine..enjoy. 😂
@Vested_Investor6 күн бұрын
It would be helpful to understand the how the weight is dispersed relative to its current weight. Does the bike become more or less top heavy and how is the front rear tire loading changed? Lowering the weight and optimizing its distribution for the intended riding style may be more valuable than the delta. Best of luck!
@PatchedBandit6 күн бұрын
It would be fun to do some kind of repeatable "top heaviness" test but it is VERY difficult once you actually start calculating the best methods and thinking how practical it would be to actually measure. Spilling fuel, different bikes being different heights (handlebar height differences in proportion to the bike in different models, calculating the actual lean angle etc etc etc. Also in reality this kind of content doesn't really appeal to a wider audience from my experience. I do racebox testing of different bikes and their acceleration speeds very scientifically but those videos are probably the worst performing on my whole channel. In the end the reason for even measuring the weight at the start is just to see how light I can keep the bike in relation to it's factory weight. My goal is to keep the weight the same and every kg under is a bonus.
@MainJet1586 күн бұрын
I have both cameras and I still like the A4 better. I can get a good image with the A5 but it's a lot more work. The normal color profile of the A4 in daytime filming gives a great image. The low light performance is of little interest to me but the A4 is still pretty good in low light so I'm fine with it. The price of the A4 is about $209 dollars so I'm thinking of getting a second one as a backup or for dual camera videos. Even with all the firmware updates for the A5 the HDR problem has not been fixed and that is really disappointing.
@PatchedBandit6 күн бұрын
Same. I would have rather had a second 4 as well and keep shooting in normal color profiles for easy editing.

Unfortunately, curb weight is unfair because it punishes motorbikes for fuel capacity and thus the range. Dry weight is unfair too because different bikes need quite different quantity of liquids and fuel for the ride. There should be something like 200km trip ready weight.
@PatchedBandit7 күн бұрын
Then consumption would be a factor and some manyfacturers are more true to life than others what they report. Best would be the weight without any fuel because then we could easily calclulate the fuel weight. For me its just not practical to weigh with empty tank. Hard to get every drop out the tank and the main reason for the weight before project is to know the weight after. This we can see easiest just with a full tank.
@XLV750RD017 күн бұрын
Honda's weight is spot on. The rule says the bike has to be weighed with 90% or more of fuel, not a 100% full tank. Good on Honda for being honest.
@PatchedBandit7 күн бұрын
True. Would be unreasonable to assume tank would be that full. But it is easier for me to keep the weighings the same between times 🙂

I don't know the rim width of the OEM wheels but in case you go with new (Haan/Excel) wheels/rims you may want to select a smaller width. In case you go with HD tubes you'll increase the weight compared to standard once. You can also safe weight with the chain kit when scaling down from 525 to 520 and use a steel/aluminium rear sprocket e.g. ZF brand. Enjoy your winter work and keep some money for heating and don't burn it all 😉

For me the stand outs were the chassis engine the power delivery of which I really liked on very long rides it’s not snatchy with nice fueling which is refreshing compared to fly by wire bikes you don’t get the disconnect feeling you get with those. Especially with all the speed cameras about :) If you do rev it out they do have a nice powerband for me it’s an engine of two halves :) tour or have fun but I’m used to riding two strokes and smaller cc stuff as much as the big bikes an old Nortons the fun is in working them an keeping the corner speed up :) I think you nailed it when you said perfect travel bike I’m actually just selling my 1150gsa to buy a 2nd one looked at the Transalp yesterday n decided for our use the NX is the better bike, lighter better cog and more manageable. @PatchedBandit8 күн бұрын
I have been wondering about doing that for the longest time but there are some things I'm not so sure about. Going 18 on the rear would mean the swingarm needs to be stretched about 2 inches. This would drastically change the chassis dynamics on a bike that is designed to run 19/17 combo. I worry that the bikes handling would be worse than let's say MT450 that is designed to run 18/21. It would absolutely look better but I'm worried it might ride worse.
@ymmot7354 күн бұрын
Understand, swingarm replacement is probaly not the way to go. 😊 How about 21/17 combo like older adventure/dual sport bikes like Suzuki DR650, Kawasaki KLR 650 and Honda 600 XLV Transalp? Have had two adventure bikes with 19" front wheel and three with 21" and to my experience the larger front wheel has the most impact in off road capability.
@PatchedBandit4 күн бұрын
@@ymmot735 Bikes angle would need some serious compensation. Going from 19 to 21 front the bike would lean pretty heavily to the rear. RR suspension makes the bike an inch taller by default but not sure could the rear be lifted even more. That might start affecting how the swingarm actually works at some point. 2" larger front is a lot if nothing else is changed 🤔 Also I'm kinda interested to test how much the 19 vs 21 actually affects anything. I'm not completely sold on that its a "must have" on this kind of bike. I mean the big GS still has a 19 and it can do some serious offroading in right hands.

I just felt I can't trust the Tuareg to what I want to do with my travel bike. One of the many reasons I picked this Honda as my next build. The feeling of having to stress about small little niggles while traveling is not nice. The bike itself I still feel is the best to ride from the mid size category and I absolutely love the Tuareg 660 to bits. I just don't have the money to keep it in the garage just for fun.

That's a tall order 😆 I thought about 21" front but without swapping 18" back it would be lobsided. Also going 18" rear would mean stretching the swingarm by a couple inches and I'm afraid that might make the handling wonky on a bike that is not designed for it. We shall see if the 19/17 combo is a problem when we go to some harder terrain but I'm pretty confident it can handle it.
