Just some random, and non-guitar related "trivia" on Yamaha. If you look at the grille section of these amps, you might notice that there is a definite pattern. That would be meant to look like the feathers on an arrow shaft. Sometimes referred to also as Hawk feathers. Reason for this is - Yamaha was/is a Samurai family (clan), and that was the family crest (Mon) that would of been on flags and clothing, and whatnot. More or less all your huge Japanese companies are Samurai descendants... Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi... on and on. Anyway - these amps are freaking amazing!

Would def suggest to anyone thinking of getting one of these: Go play one in person first. Checked one out last night hoping it would best an older PODxt i was using and was pretty disappointed. Most of the review videos of this on KZbin are close mic-ed, and it doesn't really sound that full or ballsy in person. The pre-sets and effects are pretty limited. For $300+ it seems pretty overpriced for what you get. Just my 2 cents, your mileage might vary...

For the price, especially if someone's on a budget it's not worth getting. If you really really want a Yamaha, then should consider THR5 less features but almost half the price. But I'd still probably get a Marshall or Blackstar amp. They are bigger and heavier but cheaper, you get the sound you want and gets the job done

@SomeStrangemysterious6 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with you . I own it and it is just as ballsy as this demo suggests . My guess is you were demoing it in a noisy guitar center or similar environment. Besides that you have to keep in mind what it’s designed purpose is. It’s designed to be a portable, personal, practice amp for honing your chops in a simple and convenient manner. For those of you who have tried or own a Blackstar fly personal, practice amp, then it’s that sort of idea times 10. I love mine and although it’s pricey, it’s totally worth it and I don’t see myself getting rid of it. Strongly recommend it.

@JordanWallac311 жыл бұрын
Here's a story I heard. The VH1 tone was achieved by getting an old Marshall (1959SLP IIRC) and put a resistor box after the transformer or something along those lines. This resulted in distortion and a lower volume. The Variac was used to further lower the voltage, which resulted in the amp not blowing up instantly. Wouldn't recommend this mod though, you will go through transformers and tubes super quickly. The reason Eddie got away with it was because he only needed the amp to survive one show...
@FKNhostile18711 жыл бұрын

@MB-yw3pv7 жыл бұрын
You are correct Lee in its called the "CRASH TEST" but i have 2 other Brown sound stories, first i heard it was called that because in club days people were so close to the stage and with Marshall stacks totally dimed that it was so loud it would have such an effect on people it would make them sick and crap their pants, the other story which i have come to find out is actually the true story and i've heard Eddie say this is when he origannly used the term Brown Sound he wasn't even talking about his guitar tone, he was actually talking about how his brother Alex's snare sounded and he called that the Brown sound

@ianorr81683 жыл бұрын
You can use the headphone out jack to connect with powered speakers. Not sure how well that works. I modified all three THRs to power a Yamaha 212 cab. Takes about an hour to modify a THR10 by splitting the speaker wiring to two DPST 1/4” jacks which connect the cab. The sound quality is great and can be extremely loud to whisper quiet. I also use an ABY foot switch to change between THR10 and THR10X for example...so clean to dirty tones using the foot switch. Hope this helps.
