Nicely done piece, wish I’d seen it earlier. Considering different machines all in this range. Looks like the long term production and all of the time in the field this bike has is fantastic. Your changes are the most practical I’ve seen in real world use. All the best and keep on enjoying that bike sir.👍😁

You produced an excellent video. I am 74 years old, and have been riding dirt bikes for 50 years. I use to love my 86 XT600. I bought my first Polaris quad in 1990. I still had my 600 at that time. I was a lot younger then, but I noticed that if I rode my 600 for 8 hours, I would be stove-up for 2 or 3 days afterward. I could ride my quad for 8 hours and then ride it for 8 hours again the next day. I sold my 600 because I just did not ride it too much any more. Now I live in southern Idaho, and we have some awesome single track trails. I bought a 94 XT600 in 2019. I took it out last week to a single track trail that I found the week before. My 86 600 was basically a dirt bike that you can ride on the road. My 94 600 is a road bike that you can take in the dirt. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!!!!! I tipped over twice within 1 mile of the start. It took everything that I had to stand that HEAVY POS back up both times. This 94 600 is waaaaay too high geared. I did a lot of research and came to realize that the TW200 is VERY well loved by all that own one. I finally found a dealer in Colorado that had one, and I bought it. I will go pick it up next week. I too will be gearing it down. Going to town will be about the most that I will be riding it on the road. Like I have said, I am 74 years old, and I have FINALLY figured out that I need to slow down and smell the roses. I am sure that I will love this TW200. I do love a single track, and if I have gearing that will allow me to pick my way over the real rough stuff, I will be delighted. I will do all of the modification that you have mentioned. I already bought the rear rack. LOL And I don't even have the bike yet. I again want to compliment you on the making of your video. Good Job!!!

Hey Rat Builder!! Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and to leave your comment, I really appreciate it! I love my TW's. I have taken them all over the place and my wife and I both really enjoy them. I have my Harley if I want to go on long road trips. I love that the TW is short and you can put your feet down if you find yourself in a rough situation. Best of luck with the new bike and here's to many more miles and many more years of riding to you! All the Best!

How are you liking your TW 200 Mr. Rat Builder?......I'm considering one as well.
@Rat-Builder
@Rat-Builder Жыл бұрын
@@CaptainRonAhoy I loved it the first time that I rode it. I changed the rear sprocket after I had it for 2 months, and I will have to say that I should have left the factory gearing alone. It is back to stock gearing now, and I like it much better. Since I am getting a little long in the tooth, I am going to ride easier trails on my 200. I use to love a rough trail, but I have discovered that I do not love rough trails any more. I am OK with that. I still have my Polaris 570 Trail if I want some rough stuff. LOL I wrote that comment about the 94 XT600 a while back, and there are some changes that were made. I was on a 2-track out in the mountains, and I was riding on it with the 600. I was going around a tree and I got off-balance and tipped over. It took me 30 minutes to figure out a way to lift that HEAVY beast back up. I fired it up after I finally got it upright, and went back to the truck, loaded it up, and took it to a M/C shop for them to sell it for me. I have done a bunch of modifications to the 200. Better skid plate, A luggage rack, Longer rear brake lever, O-Ring chain, lever savers, 2.5 inch lift on the handlebars. I still ride it, and I still enjoy it. It will cruise nicely at 45 MPH. It will most certainly go faster, but I don't like twisting its tail so much. Those big tires help it with stability, but when going down very steep roads covered with loose gravel, you had better learn how to use the front brake. The only real complaint is that the bike needs a rear hydraulic disc brake. The drum brakes are nowhere as good as disc hydraulic brakes. I hope that helped. One other thing, the TW200 retain their cash ownership. You will most likely not loose much money if you decide that you want something else. I had to drive across 2 states to find mine. I bought it when it was still in the freight truck.

Nice Video. I have a 2022 TW200. It only has 1,100 miles on it. I am 76 years old, and I started riding dirt bikes in 1966. My last dirt bike was a hi geared, top heavy monster XT600. I tipped over on a two track last year, and it took me 25 minutes to figure out how to lift up that heavy beast. I am not a small man, 6'3" and 230 pounds, but I am not as strong as I use to be. After I got home from that trip, I took that 600 out to my favorite bike shop and had him sell it. I then found a new TW200 in Denver. I live in Idaho. I made the trip and bought it. I have done a few other mods on mine. I have the same rack, definitely a better skit plate, 3" of handlebar risers, hand guards like yours, and an O=Ring chain. I geared it down, but after riding it for a month, I put the stock gearing back on it. I also have a battery level monitor that was actually installed at the dealership in Denver. I like it so well, that I bought a few more for my other battery start vehicles. I also extended the rear brake actuation lever 1 inch to give me more rear brake pressure. I sure wish that someone would make a hydraulic disc conversion for the TW. I would buy it in a heartbeat. Other than that, I do love this little bike, and most important, I can lift it up if it tips over. I can easily go 55 MPH. I do not need to go any faster. This whole bike is quite durable. The carburetor works just fine, and does not rely on a bunch of electronic gizmos to make it run.

Awesome!! Good to know. I am glad you are still riding. Yeah the TW200 is one of my most favorite machines of all time. They do make a hydraulic rear disc for the TW. Here is the link. www.bradleyperformanceproducts.net/product-page/tw200-rear-disc-brake-conversion

@@MOBStreet83 Thank you so much for the link. I ordered it just now. The tariff was a bit steep, but I like EVERYTHING about my TW except the rear brake. So, what's another $325. LOL One thing that I have noticed in my old age, I now seem to have the ability to look at a nasty hill, and say "no way." 30 years ago, when I had my 86 XT600, I would go out of my way to find a nasty hill to climb. With age comes wisdom. Thank the heavens for that! LOL Again, thanks for the reply and link.

@@MOBStreet83 I just got confirmation that my new disc brake kit is being shipped. I was riding one day here in Pocatello Idaho, and I stopped to chat with a guy in a side by side, and another guy on a large bore KTM. They were new to the area and asked me if I knew where some challenging hills were. I replied that I did indeed know where some challenging hills were located. They asked how bad they were, and I told them that the side by side would most likely make it, but it depended on how good the motorcycle rider was as to wether he would make it. I lead them up too the hills (3). They were not only steep, but they were covered with loose fist-sized rocks. The SBS made it, but the motorcycle could not do it. He tried it several times, but I never saw him make it. In my younger days, could I have made it with my 86 XT600? Most likely, but those foolish days are over. I use to climb them with my quad, but I just got a new 2022 Polaris Trail, and these hills could easily total my machine, and maybe me too. LOL I remember saying to myself, "I don't think so!!!" There is a go around. It is 2 extra miles, but hey, I have all the time in the world.

Great video, the bike is great off road, only thing holding it back is my skill level not the bike. I bought mine new back in 2015 after watching some videos similar to this one. I had just retired my ancient Honda CB750 and bought a Suzuki 650. I was in a Yamaha showroom and looked at the XT250, next to it was the TW, it was love at first sight =) I sold my other bike after it was left unridden in the back shed for a few years. Slow?...hell yea, seat un comfortable?...you bet your ass, but I can say its the best, most fun bike I have every owned. When she blows I will go out and buy another in a heartbeat. Now at 20,000km ride like the day it came out the showroom (actually better as bike would get pretty hot ) The bike has quite a following and its riders are very loyal, any other bike have this following? What other riders want to sit back and enjoy the same bike over and over again from different owners?
@MOBStreet83
@MOBStreet83 3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! I am with you, skill level needs to improve, not the bikes ability. I had been working on these for other people for years before I bought my first one. I had always wanted one, just hadn't done it. That's awesome that you have that many miles (I had to calculate it over to miles) and it's still running great! I had talked to a few folks yesterday almost about this same topic and I called it the Harley Davidson of the dirt bike/off road motorcycle world. The TW following is similar to the Harley Davidson culture for the love of the machine and the brotherhood that comes with it. Tdub owners from all over could get together and have a great time talking and sharing stories about the TW's and the places we've been and things we've seen like old friends. I love the bike! Thanks again!

I cruised it down the road at 55mph, it rode snoother than expected and handled fine! It's slow but FUN. And on the dirtbike track i was able to go faster as a beginner on the tw200 than on the 650! Hi Matt, great video & love the landscape there! Wow, lucky man. I have a 2017 TW200, almost all the same upgrades - Cycle Racks rear rack, Richochet skid plate, Shinko 241 front tire, IMS footpegs.......ALSO, I have Double Take Mirrors Folding Mirrors, smaller Ascerbis handguards (I like your brand better), Seat Concepts Seat foam (way better than stock) & I run a 47 rear sprocket - better top end/lower revving, but best part is a longer and usable first gear, you don't have to change to second after 10 feet, lol - you will really see the diff, no real noticeable loss in climbing power down low, although 100% trails I would stay stock at 50 or go for your 52. This bike is a mountain goat!! I have a Suzuki DRZ400 when I want to rip through the trails, but the TW200 has been my choice for a couple of single track and offroad meets. It always attracts attention there & folks always say, "I have really got to get one of those!" Safe riding & all the best. Ronny

Hey Ronny, thanks for taking the time to watch, I appreciate it! I have been wondering how that Seat Concepts seat is, I don't mind the stock but for longer rides that might be the route I should go. I thought of going with the lower gearing but then I realized that I am a short, fat dude and I like to have my wife or kids with me and ride through the hills so I decided to go with the 52 tooth. You are right though, I can't seem to take the bike anywhere without someone asking about it or wanting to ride it. They are totally worth it. Thanks Again!

@@MOBStreet83 Hi Matt, now you have TW200 twins, double the attention, lol! The seat concepts foam and cover make the seat wider and more comfortable, but the width contributes to shorter folks feeling like the seat is higher, because of the width and wider position of your legs. One more addition I put on was the JNS Engineering LED headlight. Way better than stock at night and it draws less power than the stock light. I put them on my TW & DRZ. Folks see you coming. Here is the link, about $120 and swaps in and out, no mods needed. Cheers! Ronny (Link for headlight) www.jnsengineering.com/product/tw200-led-headlight-kit/

I ride some fairly tough single tracks in Utah, and while I don't quite keep up with the KTMs I still can go anywhere they can...and I usually have a bigger smile. The biggest difference is bigger bikes seem to clear bigger obstacles and rock steps easier with more clearance and taller tires. Oh well. Airing down the tires to 7 psi and putting RaceTech Gold valves in the front forks made a HUGE difference off road. Stock front tire was also garbage off road.

@@MOBStreet83 Here is the link to their site: www.racetech.com/ChooseVehicle.aspx I just used the info for the Yamaha XT225 since it has similar forks to the TDub. These made the front forks more responsive at slow speeds and prevents it from bottoming so easily at high speeds. The valves also take some space in the tube and compress the springs a little, which helps at high speed. I just followed RaceTechs recommended settings and it was well worth the cost. Enjoy!

Did i miss you mentioning front tires? In the TW facebook group a few dude will make fun of anything who changes the front tire, mostly because a few people come to the group claiming they crashed and are blaming the front tire and want a different one lol. Which is a rookie mistake, over-riding the conditions given the tire you have... then by that logic you could ride off road with street slicks, just don't over-ride! But there's no dispute just by looking at the tread pattern and lug sizing that it's a 50/50 tire at best, maybe even street biased given the tires round shape and short/non-existent side lugs. Shinko 241 is a better all around. But on my TW i put a big maxxis utv tire on the back which raised the rear noticeably, so a big knobby d606 on the front levels it out, rose the seat height considerably too, fits well enough for 6ft rider

I did a "Review" on the stock DeathWing tire here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpmycmecbqiVpLM and I covered my thoughts (which are pretty close to what you stated above) about the tire itself. I installed the Shinko 241 and did a review on it as well. I rode almost 2,500 miles on the stock tires and didn't really have any issues. It is still capable with the stock shoes! I also ride the T-Dub with a Shinko 241. It's a worthy upgrade that I consider as a safety device against unexpected front tire washouts. Anything that makes the bike safer is a good thing. The original tire just does not grip slick wet road at a hard turn angle nearly as well. People ride these on the road as well.

Hey Jim! Merry Christmas to You! You're right, the tires are part of the suspension on the TW. So I dropped it down and still found that more adjustment was needed. Most folks commented that it should be about 8-10 psi. Hey matt, good to see your young kids outside enjoying themselves. I am debating between a tw or a xt250. Is ist gear on the tw alot lower than on the xt250? My terrain isn't as challenging as yours but i still want to do some tree weaving and slower the better on that gig. I got a 250l but seats to high and tough to crawl through the woods. Thanks, have fun 👍 i do like the fuel injection on the xt250 🤔
@MOBStreet83
@MOBStreet83 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch, I appreciate it! As far as gearing goes, the XT sprockets are geared more for the street than they are for dirt. Transmission gearing wise, I am not sure what each individual gear is at. But, the TW has some pretty nice low end grunt and is great just for a slow jaunt through the sticks. I chose the TW over the CRF250L because of the seat height and because I didn't want my battery to die and the fuel injected bike leave me stranded. You can gear down the XT to be more like the TW and the seat height on the XT was a lot more doable than the CRF250. So, if you like the Fuel Injection you can get a bigger rear sprocket and smaller front sprocket to really make that XT crawl. But, there are a lot more reasons I like the TW over the XT. Shorter seat height, lower gearing, wider tires for bigger contact patch, simple, simple, simple. However, both are great machines and I don't think you'd go wrong with either, unless you got the XT! 😂

Goes 55 no problem, suspension is better, more power, seat a little higher but still easy to reach ground . 1st gear a little higher but not a problem on the easy trails I ride. Got me a XT250.

@@MOBStreet83 what's needed is an xt250 with fat tires. The fuel injection and extra disk brake and a little more power make the xt250 better. More suspension travel. From your other video that seat height looked about the same. Yamaha...are you listening? We had a Yamaha Champ, it looked like a trail 70 Honda but had a two-stroke engine of 75cc. When I bought my first dual sport I went with the dr650, mostly because it was good value for engine size, to this day I still wish I bought the tw200. It’s too tall, upgrade parts end up costing more than the bike itself to make it fun. This bike seems to be fun right out of the box

Hey Matt, How do you think this thing would be on highway speeds for a smaller guy? Just paid for one to be shipped to me. I'm only 160Lbs, and I'm hoping I can at least take this on some highways out to the mountains. I'm in Western Canada and our max speed is 100KM/h which is roughly 62Mph. And about how much distance do you normally get on a tank of gas in yours? any info would be greatly appreciated! Love the content.
@MOBStreet83
@MOBStreet83 3 жыл бұрын
Hey! Good question, a lot of folks have told me that going to a 47 tooth rear sprocket allows more top end speed and doesn't really sacrifice the low end grunt. I think if you are wanting it more for that type of riding and your weight, that would be the route I take. Mileage changes depending on what I do, but I can normally get 110 miles out of it before I switch over to reserve. Most of my riding isn't the highway though. My father in law used to ride one back and forth to work and he said he could hit 130 miles before switching over to reserve. I hope that helps and thank you for the question and for watching! Hopefully you bike gets there soon!

Yeah, the do sit a bit high, but the lever is too long and will hit the aluminum rail if I level them any more. This was the best position I could get with stock bars and levers.

I haven't had mine above 12,000 feet yet! That is awesome though, where are you riding at those levels? The closest loop here climbs over 9,000 feet and with two people it took a little while to get there. But, it did it and I'll do it again!

Great review, awesome bike. One question, I am planing to go from argentina to Alaska on a suzuki gn125cc. For this bike cruise speed is 50mph is it legal in usa highways to go at that speed? Thanks!
@MOBStreet83
@MOBStreet83 3 жыл бұрын
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!! 50mph is okay, but you won't be able to ride any freeways or major interstates. There are plenty of older highways and backroads you could take though.

I have ordered a Tdub but I have never even sat on one. I would like to know any opinions about the level of vibration that might be felt in the hand grips while riding around 55mph? I had a Honda SL350 in the early seventies and the vibration at 55 quickly became very annoying. Since I have not heard any complaint about this type of problem, I'm hoping it means the counter-balanced engine eliminated this characteristic. But I would like to hear from any Tdub owner about this. Thank you in advance. Great videos MOBStreet 83.

Hey Bill!! Thanks for taking the time to watch and I am glad you like the videos. Are you in Utah? If you are you are more than welcome to sit on one of the TW's that I have to see if you like it! I have one that I ride 55mph when riding to work and the vibration isn't horrible for me.......but I am also used to a solid mount Evo Harley Davidson......so I could be somewhat conditioned to vibration.

@@MOBStreet83 Thanks for taking your time to answer my question. Wish I was closer to Utah. Im on the oregon coast - have to drive to Ronan mt to get my bike whenever it comes in. And im hoping the counterbalancers will have lessened that condition.
