Yamaha Virago Open Pipes. The sound is just incredible! Join me as I demonstrate the Yamaha Virago before and after custom open pipes. I was thinking to sell the Virago because I thought I needed a bigger bike, After I put these pipes on, the Virago turned into a snarling beast of a bike! Now I have no plans to sell it anytime soon. You have to check this out.

You didn't 'need' a bigger bike--you just needed it to 'sound' like a bigger bike! Well done, though! It does sound good! With motorcycles, engine size doesn't matter so much, because ALL motorcycles are really cool! I have a V-Star 1100 and later bought a Virago 250, for my wife to try riding with me. She's not into it, but I can't sell it! I love the 250! They are all fun in different ways.

Spencer Kochel I’m thinking about picking one up from a friend that got it in a trade deal , he said he’d take five hundred for it ? 2005 ( I think). I’m to big it looks like a pit bike under me , but would be perfect for my wife or to just play . The bike has 15k miles and a couple of after market accessories but very clean . After seeing this one I’m thinking I better snap it up even if my wife won’t ride I think with what was done to this one I couldn’t possibly lose money? Was that a custom seat pipes and bars ? If so, about what is the parts total ? I’m getting excited now just need to find a place to stash it until spring then I can unveil it her birthday ! Oh yea I forgot to mention I will half to get a bigger matching bike too ! Wish me luck on that one ! 😂

Its the pipes, you can get new ones for about 165-185 depending on stainless or black finish I have an 05 also and man its a world of difference, also you gotta do the sproket and chin swap. get a 17/38 sprokets and a new chain that will need to be 112 and suddenly you will go from winding out at 55mph and having to shift into 2nd before you get through a red light to easily cruising at 65-70 .

that sounds fantastic, i might just do this to my 'Virago, but i do have one question, your bike makes a noise from the left side correct? ihave chain noise, and im not sure if its normal, it sounds identical to yours, and it has been worrying me. first bike caution i guess. is it normal? the only other thing ive ridden was a newer ninja, and all i could hear on it was the sound of speed.
@MaxSpeedMediaLive
@MaxSpeedMediaLive 10 жыл бұрын
You are probably hearing the chain noise or front sprocket. If you just got the bike oil the chain and sprockets immediately. If your chain is rusted or dry it will make noise and could snap on you. Not good. It is normal to hear some noise. Check to ensure you have the proper tension on the chain. Not too tight or again, you can snap it. Since I put on the open pipes, the only thing I hear are the pipes! LMAO It's very important to always do a visual and mechanical inspection before every ride. Check your tires, brakes, signals, lights and fluid levels before you take off. It can save your life. Don't want to freak you out, just want you to ride safe.

Hey Man, I wanted to ask you howd you remove baffles? I went to see a Service guy he said he wouldnt touch it because you have to remove the whole unit not just the baffles or something along those lines then he said its a pain in the ass to rejett and adjust the carbs accordingly. Did you have any issues? Definitely want to give it a go if not too risky or too complex. Cheers bro.
@MaxSpeedMediaLive
@MaxSpeedMediaLive 9 жыл бұрын
You don't need to rejet and you don't have to unbolt the pipes. The service guy is wrong. Use a hole saw bit on your drill that is slightly larger than the rivets. Cut the hole and pull the baffles out with a long nose pliers. This is an easy job. You can file down the rough edges when done. I have open custom pipes but did the baffle removal on the stock pipes.

i have a 2014 xv250 (vstar) i cut the pipes off and immediately noticed a descrease in top speed, no longer will the bike do 90mph, also my dad and uncle said its going to fuck up the motor... any input is appreciated, i love the way my bike sounds now, but its not worth it, if its going to damaged the intake/exhaust valves, or do harm to the internals of the engine, i heard you have to tune your carburetor to avoid damage if your going to run open pipes... not sure what to do because i need a welder to put one of the pipes back on, the other can be slipped on/bolted up tight... ty for reading hope to hear from you.
@MaxSpeedMediaLive
@MaxSpeedMediaLive 3 жыл бұрын
@@JRSilva-te8ez you need to add more fuel and it's not going to mess up anything. Need to run an actual exhaust not just take off the muffler. You get a custom open pipe that's tuned and that's long enough and you're still going to have some back pressure. You need to increase the fuel jet size or if your bike is fuel injected you need to tune it and give it more fuel and it'll be just fine. My bike was older and had a carburetor so I increase the fuel with slightly larger Jets and the bike was a beast no problems whatsoever no decrease in top speed.

Any time you fool with the exhaust on the xv250 you have to rejet. Never run this bike with open pipes or you will burn your valves. If you remove your baffles you will lose your back pressure, to do it right with the baffles out add a 1/1 2 inch lollipop in each pipe about 2 inchs into into the pipe, this will give you a good sound but you still have to rejet, From 2 Virago 250s experience in our family I found that jetting is pretty much turn key, Idle jet is changed from the 17.5 to a 20, midrange is increased by adding a nylon spacer to lift the needle up, and the main can go from the stock 110 to a 115 or even a 120. Readjust your idle and mixture, every bike is a little different but about I start at about 2 turns out on the mixture and work from there. BE sure to order the correct jet part numbers as Mikuni makes a lot of jets in these sizes and the are not all for this bike (found out this the hard $$$ way years ago, cost me cylinders pistons and rings and a epic battle getting the engine out and back into the frame).
@geekrelic7400
@geekrelic7400 4 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add if you have a AIS air system (stuff in pod on left side, Calif only) you need to disconnect the 2 rubber hoses that go to the chrome tubes that go to the engine and plug them, also connect and plug the signal (vacuum line that runs to the intake manifold and plug that so you do not have a air leak. These systems pump or allow air to enter the exhaust to complete burning but usually just make annoying backfire. Never were proven to work anyway, Yamaha just told EPA that it was a "Clean air enhancement" and they bought it!
@juntsmoka
@juntsmoka Жыл бұрын
@@geekrelic7400 back pressure and "burning valves" Is a myth. You don't have to worry about back pressure on a 4 stroke, it's exhaust scavenging that is nice to have. It's just going to make the bike run lean if you don't rejet

whats the rev limiter on the xv250?
@MaxSpeedMediaLive
@MaxSpeedMediaLive 10 жыл бұрын
About 8,000 RPM, It may not even have a rev limiter. I have heard of people taking the motor to 10,500 rpm until they got valve float but that's not recommended. It won't make power past 8,000 rpm. I don't have a tach on the bike but it would be nice to see how many rpms she's turning. I think with stock sprockets it will turn 7,500 rpm @ 75 mph. That can easily be lowered to just under 6,000 rpm with a sprocket change. I like the fast revving, stock lower gears because I like to blast around town and it accelerates harder.
