I love the sound of those old Yamahas. I've got a 87 moto 4 350 and It's a all original machine. Paid 300 dollars for it put a battery in it and rebuilt the carburetor and she was ready to run.

I love the old ATV’s. I guess it just brings me back a bit. It’s very challenging how to proceed when your client is tighter than the bark on a tree. If he doesn’t like the price for repairs/parts, he certainly won’t enjoy the price of a ne one 🙃 You have an awesome place to ride, Rock. Love your videos.

I like the older ones too as they have plenty of character. And You’re right about that… when the owner wants to stick to a certain budget it’s hard to keep going on repairs when labor keeps racking up.

I usually don’t comment much but I had one of these brand new in 1995 as did one of my best friends we bought them together. They always had a stumble right off on the throttle. It was my first and only Yamaha off-road vehicle because of that experience. Just a note while it was in the Yamaha shop for its first service. It was stolen from the dealership and 87 days after that before they would pay out on insurance they found it in a trailer park and gave it back to me a total,wreck.

I bet the carb for that first year one is like gold. I learned that when I joined a group for my Yamaha bear tracker and that's more common.that carb probably goes for over 500 used.everbody wants to just buy the junk Chinese carb.like nobody rebuilds them anymore and if it doesn't work they just go buy one and slap it on
@rockspowersports3 ай бұрын
I’m sure it’s pricey! Better off converting to a newer style carb. And Yeah, I hate buying machines that have a “new Carb” on it as it’s always a junk Chinese one..

I tried rebuilding the OEM one on my ‘02 BigBear 400 4x4, throttle plate didn’t want to go back in afterwards so it’s junk, bought a Chinese one and swapped the OEM parts over and runs like new now

I have a 1999 Kodiak 400 that needed a new carb. I didn't want a chinese carb an couldn't find a Mikuni. Gotta say... it's been running very well for four years now. Sure, it probably won't last ten years but at $40.00...

Seems like you did a pretty good job, its running plenty well enough for an old 350, that main jet might have been slightly too big. But the gasket maker on the cylinder base looks real suspicious, certainly burning oil, I bet he'll run it 10 more years just like it is now.

I was surprised in a old dirt wheels magazine that a kodiak 400 top end fits on the 350 wolverine bottom... they did a stroker crankshaft and big bore up to around 500cc. Look it up....had awesome ideas back then.... the machine yamaha should have made...

Backfire on decel is likely from the baffles being gone from the exhaust. And or any other exhaust leaks. My 03 honda foreman 450 i had a persistent header pipe thay would come loose and leak for while and i would know right away as it would start to pop on decel.

My wolverine worked great , but it was hard on front wheel bearings because it was full time 4x4
@jacobwalls91783 ай бұрын
Idk if your customer would be interested but for front brakes yfz450 calipers bolt right in then you have dual piston front brakes. Brakes are always a problem with these wolverines.
@Stuckin3303 ай бұрын
You need to advance the excel pump I used a small rubber fuel line from chain saw and a zip tie put it on the plunger an have it just touching the arm that pushes the plunger . This will get rid of the stumble from idle . I’ve dined this on all my warriors becouse they all got that dead spot from idle to wide open snap
@Dinoxt123 ай бұрын
If your machine has the Stock OEM Carb,,,Rebuild it ! And not the new ones on amazon or ebay or aftermarket carburetors for cheap $ money on-line. I learned the the hard way.

Yeah prob burning oil, That's an old engine prob needs top end rebuild, I've found out recently its better to do a leakdown test from the get go just to make sure i won't spend hours and hours on it and find out in the end the condition of rings and valves is poor 😢

I've been having a weird problem with my 98 Suzuki quad runner, it revs out great when warming up but once warmed up it sounds like it's hitting a rev limiter or won't rev and backfire at half then quarter throttle, changed out cdi, coil, carb, and volt regulator. Don't know if I got a bad cdi or a bad pick up coil

If you were running rich on the fuel mix screw and make it lean will the plug change color on its own relatively quickly or do you need to clean it first?
@rockspowersports3 ай бұрын
It’ll clean the plug off fairly quick. A good few minutes of running and you will see a difference in the plug.
