They aren't fast bikes, but they've got STYLE! I loved my 82 Turbo, and kept it all the way up until the mid 2000's. I love that "turbo whine". Everyone notices that, especially when it's idling. ;-) Nice vid of a nice bike.

The great thing about these turbos is when the rpm actually reaches turbo capacity, and the turbo kicks in. At that point, it feels like the HP nearly doubles and it starts pulling really hard. I had to be careful on wet roads because I could spin the rear tire even in 2nd, and sometimes 3rd gear. Yamaha's turbo was unique among all the japanese turbo bikes of the era, in that it was the only one that worked by pressurizing the carb ahead of the intake, to PUSH fuel/air into the cylinders, instead of the usual way of creating a vacuum behind the cylinders to PULL fuel/air in. Downside was that if your carb gaskets were at all worn, it would start spewing gasoline out onto your legs, and onto the engine. This didn't start happening to mine until it was well on it's way to 20 years old.

I'm considering getting one but I am not sure if it will last enough. Should I give it a chance or would you say it is now "too old" I love the looks of it and the sound though, no other bike seems like this. @@robertzeurunkl8401

Exactly what I thought. It sounds like my 2002 Triumph Sprint 955.
