Yamaha XJ900f Ep7 - Mikuni BS36 Carburettor strip down

In this episode I strip the carb bank for ultrasonic cleaning and to assess the components inside the carbs for reuse or replacement.
Some issues along the way...stuck float pins, broken float post, stuck air mixture screws to name a few! Most issues can be resolved and parts salvaged but some new components will need ordering before a complete rebuild, set and balance can be done.

i sorn'ed my xj900f 7 mths ago, it was running fine before and had a carb service not that long ago at great expense. now i've started it up again, it isn't happy, running lumpy, choke mech is fine and the bike will both do 70 mph and tick over but it isn't right, it doesn't pick up well and i find myself reving to keep it running, slipping the clutch to pull away and generally it doesn't feel too good to ride. i'm not a mechanic but i think i could clean the jets using your video as a guide, i'd use spray carb cleaner as i haven't got that cleaning box. incidentally i changed the petrol and put fuel additive in but no difference to speak of.

Very good video. The rubber hoses you removed. Can you educate me as to where these are located when attached to the bike? I'm currently rebuilding. Cheers.

Hi. There’s a few different hoses. There’s the larger hose from the T piece which is fuel, from the fuel tap there’s a vacuum hose as well. The cluster of hoses underneath the carbs are overflow from the float bowls. You’ll want these routed so of there’s overflow of fuel it exits under the bike. I think they tuck behind the crankcase pointing down. The other two fuel and vacuum head up to the fuel tap.
