Yamaha XJR1300 first impressions

Congrats on the purchase. Just saw one being sold here, and looks very nice. Muscles are the only way to go for me. Best bang for buck and with a lot of character. I bought my Suzuki GSX1100G from an old chap back in Australia. What an intimidating rise and being used to only ride 100cc bikes, the learning curve was steep but I managed it. With it's drive shaft and longer wheel base, that ride was torquey but smooth. When I came back to Malaysia, I looked around for a while and got a Kawasaki ZRX1200R. It was a fully imported model made for Malaysian market. It was back in those days when Japan send their best vehicles to small ASEAN countries like Malaysia. This one has a bit more grunt and nimbler. Being shorter wheeled base and without aeros, the frame struggles to keep up with the power that the engine produces. I'm having trouble keeping her steady at 170kph! Maybe I need to upgrade the suspension and keep up with it's maintenance but for the time being, I;'m happy with my ride. Just a shame the manufacturer's are not able to produce a proper worthy successor of the muscle legends..

I have a 2003 ZRX1200 and I have made some mods that greatly improved its handling. I put in new fork springs & fork oil from Race Tec, upgraded fork rebound damping (also from Race Tec), and finished off with a fork brace. It handles so much better now.

HI. Congratulations for choosing this beautiful XJR. I have the 2005 model, blue with white stripes on the tank and tail. mine is also carbureted. I really like this black color, with the YAMAHA writing on the tank. I bought my xjr1300 in August 2023 and paid €4000 for it (31,000km). my previous bike was an FZS1000, from 2006, but I don't regret having chosen this XJR..... greetings from ITALY. ps: in Italy, we call the xjr1300 "LA CICCIONA"( Fat girl)😊

Congratulations on your purchase. I’ve got a 1999 XJR1300 carb model with only 48,000km on the clock. Awesome bike. I’m 6’2’ and very comfortable on it. It’s a keeper. Looking forward to more videos on your XJR1300.

Sorry if my question sounds naive, I'm thinking to go for fuel injection model aka post 2007 model. Because I've had shitty experience with Carburetor when I own scooters. Do you face any kinda problems with carb ?.

I really really miss my GSX1400 ..... It was an 07 with factory 4 into 1 .... I replaced the factory can ( 7.5 kg ) with a Delcevic from Oz (2.5 kg) ... Was very pleased with that... GSX / XJR / CB just such awesome bikes for seeing the country...👍

Congratulation on the XJR1300 acquisition. I've had mine (2012) for several years and absolutely love it! So smooth, love the sheer wide torque band, extremely comfortable on really long days, maintenance simplicity. Only thing I would change is a 6th gear, but most riders say that. These bikes tend to stay with their owners for a long time, mine will certainly do so. Even despite now having a BMW R1250GS. Good Luck with ownership.

I own a ZRX but would love to own an XJR. Unfortunately they have never been available here in the USA. I am fortunate enough to own an '89 FJ1200, so I do enjoy the same motor as the XJR. In regards to the difficult down shifting, check the shift lever linkage. Good luck and enjoy!

I've just bought the same colour combination as yours, 2002 model with 14k miles on the clock, it's my 4th XJR, all of them carb models I love them, I find them light to be honest after my FJR's and Pan's the guy I bought it from cherished it, all the best mate enjoy

Nice bike mate loved mine. Have a look out for the ignition advance disc mod you can do for these. It wakes them up nicely.

I own the 2014 (EFI) model and, yes, sometimes find myself searching for a phantom 6th gear. But a gorgeous bike; won’t be parting with it, that’s for sure.

I bought a 2003 model back in 2011 with 14k miles on it and just sold it last year with 71k on it - I am seriously missing it right now! Why oh why did I sell it?

i own a 2003 xjr1300 sp i dont think i want to sell it 46k and going strong i had bridgestones on it but switched to michelin i owned this bike for 12 years

SP models should have chrome top carbs, non SP bikes have the black top carbs. I have had 2 black top carb xjr1300 Yamaha,s and one fuel injection model xjr1300 Yamaha. The carb ones are faster and look better. Fuel economy is about the same. I also had a fjr1300A Yamaha which is faster than the xjr but much heavier. I had a FZ1N Yamaha 20v R1 once as well, very light and very fast. I'm in the uk btw.
