Bought one of these back in February, I'm 51 and it's my first bike. Can't recommend it enough! The looks, the performance (15hp/140mpg), it'll potter around at 30mph and I've had it up to 70mph, plenty about it to keep up with traffic. Yes, it is the pricier end of the 125 market, but if you want a well put together bike with the maximum power allowed for the sector, that looks fantastic, and you plan on hanging onto it for a while, then this is the one 🙂

I own this bike in yellow and have had it for 9 months. I intended to move it on pretty quickly for a bigger bike but i have fallen in love with it. I have decided to keep her. The mpgs are unbelievable, i hardly ever fill it up. Added a bar riser and now the ergonomics are fabulous. Im 5'11" (180cm for our European friends) but am longer in the torso. This is an expensive 125 (i paid just over 4k new) but you get what you pay for. For a 125 it does half shift. If your looking for the best 125 on the market and like the modern classic look, this is the one.

I picked up my first 125 motorbike in August 2022 and my choice was between the Honda, Yamaha and KTM 125cc's and I wanted the retro look. It was at this time when I noticed that Yamaha had brought out the Legacy version. What a fantastic looking bike with spoked gold wheels, I had to have one. The XSR125 Legacy cost me £5,500, so £500 more than the standard version and it has a few enhancements over the standard as well (better tyres for one). I can highly recommend this as a first bike. There are also many accessories available but these are not cheap (never are until 3 party manufacturers get on board). Not mentioned in the video, yet very important, is that this bike has VVR (Variable Valve Actuation) for better fuel economy and acceleration in both low-speed and high-speed, ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), 6 gears (1 down, 5 up). Go ahead and check out some reviews on the Legacy, well worth a bit extra.

The mpg are excellent and it is a really fun and nimble bike to gain experience on. I am 6ft 2 and 90kg and it is comfortable on long journeys as well as the shorter commutes. I'm fortunate to own a Yamaha XSR155 and a RE reborn Classic 350 in Bronze and chrome and they are both brilliant bikes, and a struggle to decide which 1 to take out 🤪. Both bikes invoke 2 completely different style of riding here in Indonesia, the Classic I love cruising around the islands and the Yam creates a more aggressive riding style 🤪. The only downside is the suspension which is way too hard and not adjustable! As for the Classic the preload suspension adjustment is frustrating difficult to get at, as well as no gear selector indicator and only 5 gears !

We bought one last June as a learner for my lad after flogging the Keeway super light with 150 miles on it because it would not go over 48 mph for a 125 what a joke, he has passed his test now and got a bigger bike, my wife is still learning and will pass soon, but this will not be leaving us, too good a bike, very revvy engine, not slow, stock exhaust has a real nice little growl to it, runs on fresh air easy 120mpg plus, does over the legal speed limit with ease. I can't praise it enough, was going to sell but would regret it, we have a Monkey Bike too its fun gets the looks but the XSR is about the size of full size bike, i was so pleased i then went on to get the new XSR900 for myself for nice days out and about locally-ish as the seats like a scaffold board for comfort, the XSR125 seat is a lot more comfortable and i have had no discomfort in 1-2 hour rides. Once you get to around 7000 rpm it opens up more. Anyone that gets one of these will have some real fun. Its the style for me classic looks. If you are thinking about one , Don't think anymore MCN 2021 125 of the year too, get one.

That was a great review of the XSR 125! It does look quite modern retro. And it is evidently overkill for modern roads; all you need is a 100cc 😂😂. At that price it fares poorly against several Royal Anvils, especially the Hunter. The front brake reservoir looks better than the new Norton's though! Wonderful stuff. It would be worth buying the 125 at my age, just to feel like a teenager.

Yes, it does make the REs look very inexpensive but if you haven’t passed your test over here you can only have a 125. I feel for certain if RE built a 125 this is what it would be like. It almost reminds me of what a mini Hunter would be like. 😊

Nice review thanks. I’m looking to get a 125 and started off looking at Mutts, pretty bikes but unreliable, so I looked at the XSR 125 at the dealer and offered the Heritage and Legacy, nice bikes but I don’t really like any of the colours on offer, it doesn’t matter so I’ll get the tank and guards hydro dipped to whatever takes me fancy at the time. I do like the XSR 125 and hope to move onto the XSR 900 which is an awesome modern bit of kit with so many features and basically suits me as I don’t want to do wheelies, wheel spins or drifting lol, the comp has various settings to eliminate all that which suits me in my old age. Great review and great bike! looking into getting a XSR 125 for commuting after recently renewing my CBT license. Sounds more Beefy than the new Norton Commando, not that much lower in power either and certainly a lot lighter. Now there's a bike you might actually want to lick ( taste) but as for the other senses I feel they'd be a bit dumbed down. I can just hear your review now " Looks scrumbtiously Splendiferous" " Taste? Well you know I might just taste it" " Feel? Well it feels marvelously Splendiferous, tasty paint work and delectable details. Other than that it just feels unsplendiferously heavy" " Sound? I think I need a hearing test". " Sixth sense? Leave it in the garage, take it to the odd bike meet as long as the road's straight. Other than looks its way below marvelous, might even have to invent a new word, Mehvelous" 😂
