125cc Motorcycles for the most part, can do pretty much anything you need a motorcycle to do, however there are a few things that you can't (or probably shouldn't do) with them. In todays video, I explain the practical limits of a 125 and whether they can actually do more than meets the eye.

I used to take my little Honda CB125F (10.8 bhp) on dual carriageways. She managed 60 for the most part, though that brought the buzz out of the engine. 50 was definitely preferable for that reason alone. On a couple of downhills I managed to get more speed. Turns out the rev limiter cuts off fuel at 70mph :P

@@233kosta aye, it's easy to do, and i too have to always conciously make an effort to slow right down especially on steep hills with sharp bends, as while the brakes are 'adequate', combined with the gradient, gravel, thinner tyres and lack of talent it can be a deadly combination !! GL

@@Bob-ts2tu I mostly did it to avoid the lengthy process of getting back up to speed. Ironically I'm technically a lot safer in this regard now that I ride a 650 :P In fact the process of speeding back up is really rather enjoyable now. But yeh, those skinny tyres do little to help the matter.

@@JustinLT212 Nope, on purpose. As long as you're smooth you're fine. Progressively add brake effort until the forks go all the way down, then a bit more to lift the back wheel A BIT. If you feel like it's going too high up you can always ease off, just don't dump it. It takes a little while to develop the finesse, but once you're smooth enough this stuff gets real easy to control. Being dead smooth affords you the time to feel exactly what's going on and even think about what to do next, but you've got to edge your way to the limits, can't just jump in. That then also teaches you how the bike responds near said limits and how to correct if you overstep. Smooth, progressive inputs are your best friend. Sharp, abrupt inputs are your worst enemy. "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast" applies here just as much as it does to martial arts.

My wee daughter has just bought one of these and just turned 19 and I know naff all about bikes. It is a 2021 with 0358 on the clock yes 358. After I watched your video I have taken your advice and fitted an Oxford anchor in my driveway for her with alarmed disc lock and ring doorbell. So the security is sorted and thanks very much for the theft advice. I was terrified of her riding it when I saw how mean it looked sitting on it in the showroom picture. But.....After watching you handle this little bike with professional ease and seeing how small and light it is in the video and its lack of power, you have made me feel more relaxed now about riding it. I do watch the TT and the Irish skerries and I follow Michael Dunlop and know the history of his family, but that is the extent of my bike knowledge. I was terrified the bike was going to be like Clark Kent on the driveway and superman on the road, my wife watched your video too and feels more relaxed now. TYVM for a superb video and all the best to you and your wife.

the reason is that here in Europe 16 year olds are only allowed to drive up to 125cc's. When you are 18 you can drive 300cc's and when you are 21 you can drive anything. So yeah as a 16 year old that lives in Italy and is getting his A1 (the license to drive 125cc's) driving license I'm extremely excited to the fact that I will be able to drive a 125 very soon. it's utterly baffling why we were relegated to 50cc and 125cc as learners. I'm a big boy and heavy set with the added weight of being a bit over weight and 125 are barely tolerable. I actively have to take routs that cut more steeper hills out of my journey. the learner legal limit should have been 250 restricted to 80 to 90mph at like 20 to 25bhp. Yes, there are idiots out there but for the most part, 125's are just not fit for purpose when we're talking non urban travel and most riders, no matter disposition, tend to be pretty road savvy. I also think it plant seeds of fear of the bigger bikes in some way too. and fear leads to hesitation and on motorcycles, that can be a detriment more times than it isn't.

Looks like a fun bike. I rode 250Rs from Kawasaki that were a ton of fun and could easily handle most freeway situations, with the exception of passing while going up hills, which they weren't good at as their main weakness. But everything else, they were good at. They could do a wheelie from a stop, pulling in the clutch, revving to 7500+ RPMs and then completely letting the clutch go instantly, which was not fun at all and highly not recommended due to the sudden jolt from 0 to fast and the bike's front end going far up. In Asia like Thailand and many other south east Asian countries, they have a very rich culture on modifying small 125-150cc motorcycles. They managed to tune and take it up to a much higher topspeed than stocks, some of them notably can push a madly tuned 150cc to run up to 210+km/hr ( over 130mph ) while the stock can only run at 120-140km/hr ( 74-80mph ). Some of them also add in turbo or do a big bore kits and new gearing with additional turbo which makes it even more more powerful. You’d be surprised of how much they can juice out of that tiny engine. The cost is about an additional 2 150cc motorcycle worth. So the usual price of a 150cc new around 2.2k usd and with 4-5k usd high performance mods and tunes. Pulling over requires slowing down, so youll slow down traffic even more, and then when youre stopped at the side of the road, youll have to wait a long time for a few km of free space, and then what? Pull over again later for someone? Please Im a eastern european, we ALL ride 10-20kph over the limit on highways, just like the Americans. Youll be pulling over and camping all day

Bro what are u takin bout, wheeling 125s are super possible, especialy if u have a supermoto. And have u ever heard of 2 stroke?!?! Keeping up with traffic ussualy isnt a problem (unless ur on the autobhan😂). The ninja 125 is one of the slowest 4stroke 125s tho and top at about 114. I dont think ive ever had a que behind me, even on steep hills. As long as u use your gears right it aint a problem. Mapping your bike is to enshure it gets the right air mixture to avoid eating your piston or futher damaging your engine. So i dont really see your points in this video...

fully pin it and dump the clutch while shifting weight to the back when it's like 70% to rev limiter it will wheelie , can do it on a 10hp YBR :D anyone reading this be careful, only try and push it in small increments. Get used to using the back brake as soon as you get the front up even if it's like 1ft because that's what's going to stop you crashing if you over do it. Going slightly downhill makes it easier too. also from what i've been told it's a good way to fuck up your fork seals & clutch so keep that in mind

I hate these new generation four strokes, they are crap, something over 70mph at best.Back in the late 80s or early 90s,i had an RD125 lc2,on a provisional license with L plates, learner legal.that did with the restricting to 12hp about 85mph with me on it at 8 and a half stones. That would destroy the ninja in a race.later i took the restriction out of the exhaust pipe, and had 100mph on the clock.I was a london despatch rider on the LC and normaly they did not give out of town jobs to 125 riders, but they gave me out of town jobs, because my little 125 was seriously rapid.

I wouldn't buy a 125cc sportbike unless #1 I was going to race it. Or #2 I got a crazy good deal on it. At which point I'd sell to buy a 125cc supermoto/dual sport or scrambler. Something that can be used on or off road...A 125cc sportbike is lame because they want it to look fast & exciting like a liter bike (look at me on my fast cool 😎 sportbike) but almost every boring economy car on the road is faster than you. 😂 Plus it has the uncomfortable sportbike riding position. So despite getting good fuel economy. You won't want to ride a long road trip.

As the traffic slows down because of green idiots, 125ccm bike (tuned of course) which is able to keep stable 90 km/h and with the top speed around 110 km/h (it needs 18HP at least and some extra torque) is just fine except of highways. So the purpose of these bikes is to commute around the city and don't look for a parking place 2 hours after 30 minutes ride. And as for as upgrades. You have to make a lot of mods to have 18HP from 125 ccm. 1st is a chain as the original is mostly garbage. 2nd are the gears optimized for the top speed as you will never overtake anything. 3rd upgrade are the tires as the originals are garbage. 4th upgrade is suspension and brakes. 5th and the last should be the engine and exhaust including big bore intake, big head with oversized valves, big bore high compression cylinder kit, reinforced clutch and sport exhaust. The point is, that your bike will be still rather slow but it will weigth 40 kg less then average scooter and it is much more funny to ride because of the gearbox. You can save the money for upgrades and buy some decent 330 ccm bike instead but it will be much more heavier and much less funny.

125cc bikes are the most popular size bike/scooter world wide, they are more practical than bigger bikes, speed cameras all over the place even motorway speeds are changing constantly, nothing more funny than seeing people riding around in 30 zones revving their big engine bikes 😂, I have a euro 4 xmax 125 scooter and use it on motorways I find myself slowing down for cars in front when going up hills, The ninja is one of the slowest 125s you could ride, the MT and yzf are much faster, also the reiju rs3 125 tops out at 85mph, also the Honda forza hits 80mph, Not all 125s are to light and to slow for motorways,

I used to take my little Honda CB125F (10.8 bhp) on dual carriageways. She managed 60 for the most part, though that brought the buzz out of the engine. 50 was definitely preferable for that reason alone. On a couple of downhills I managed to get more speed. So glad that here in Canada we don't have any laws of what you can get. You pass your learners then you can get anything you want. As long as when you take your road test you can handle the bike (or use one smaller when you take the test) you are good to go. My first bike was a 1987 Yamaha FZ600. Road for many years. After I sold it, then it was over 20 years since riding again. And yes I jumped to the great ZX14. Couldn't imagine having to ride a "moped".

That's pretty stupid imho, your first bike is what you learn all the basic skills on. It should be light, precise and not powerful enough to get you into much trouble. I agree that the age thing is dumb too, but the classes (A1/A2/unrestricted) make sense and so does the requirement that you pass on whatever class you want the license for. The last thing you want on your first day is to snatch the throttle open on an old MT-10 and watch it fuck off into the distance while you fall on your arse

The bottom line is i don’t want my government telling me what kind of bike i can’t ride. if i want my first bike to be a r1 (personally i think that’s a terrible idea) but i don’t think my license should be able to dictate that.

Sound travels, waves from exhausts get pelted backwards, in essense it throws sound behind you. At speed, By the time the loud enough decibels reach cars in front to notice you. You’ll already be in their blind spots while they change lanes into you. Slow speeds louder exhausts may help but more to annoy people rather than let people know where you are. Stocks do a good enough job. Same is often observed in higher cc bikes.

@@mrburn6119 better part if a decade riding, more so riding quiet af 125cc bikes. Why mention colossal size engined vehicles such ad trucks when we are talking about some of the tiniest engines on the road? While ill agree that there are exceptions to the rule such as 50cc moped hair dryers which have an obnoxious hard to miss sound. Your standard 125cc bikes have a much more mellow, weak, sound to them. I also said that while stationery these engines can be picked out of a crowd because the sound waves have all the time in the world to catch up with your ears. At speed, a 125cc basically becomes silent to other drivers, the sound needs more time to catch up to the driver at speed. Point being, loud exhausts wont help much, good positioning and personal spacial awareness gets you noticed and keeps you safe. Also.. no need to be a dick. Grow up.

I've ridden past police with wife as pillion on the 125 and they didn't care, I suppose it would depend on how over the top a particular cop wanted to be. However if I ever got pulled over doing it, I'd show them my full licence, police shouldn't take issue, although may give a warning.
