Oh dear, your magnificent Resto has just re-awakened an obsession that’s lain dormant for 40 years. My first ever bike was the XT250 had to wait 2 more years to finally get my 500. Now I’m close to hitting 60 and I now know how I’m going to treat myself
@APCJunky6 ай бұрын
I had an XT250 in the 80's, I longed for an XT500 but could not find one at the time, that bike holds a special place for me, life got in the way and it wasn't until last year I returned to motorcyles, with a few car and motorcyle crashed under my belt i'm left walking with a stick and 'actually' going off road is nothing but a dream for me now, but I scratched the itch with a Yamaha SCR 950, on the road in my minds eye this ticks the boxes and gives me the vibes of what I imagine that XT500 would have performed like, its a parts bin special with a slew of faults which I am now having a whale of a time fixing (like better suspension) friends ask me why I dont just but a better bike - but they don't get it.

Your build is exquisite!!! I had a 1976 TT500 that I changed out the stock forks for a set of 38mm Kayaba Pro Line conventional forks that were designed for a Suzuki RM250 and I ran 17.5 inch Fox Air Shocks in the back. I went from the stock 6 inches of travel to 11 inches of travel and the bike handled much better than stock. I did this back in 1982 and I wish I'd never sold that bike. Great video!!!

Nice job!! I enjoy making my own parts too! When I was 18 I bought a brand new 1979 XT500 from Glendale Yamaha in Glendale CA. Long gone now. I have a 2019 Africa Twin AS now and would love to have another XT500. A manly bike with no electric start. But what a wheely bike! I could ride wheelies as long as I wanted. Sounded beautiful with a Supertrap. The only downside was the occasional kickback during an impatient restart = ankle injury🤣 Have you considered pulling the dent in the tank with a "Paintless Dent Removal Kit" Amazon? Uses a hot glue gun and pulls the dent out. Take your time and I'll bet you'd get it out. I had to pull a ding from my tank on my AT and was able to pull 95% out. Love the aluminum tank on the XT's!

@Workshop437 ай бұрын
Hi It is to „reinforce“ the cylinder. You Drill holes insert a screw and screw them in the modified studs. So the alloy of the cylinder isn’t “pulled” by the expanding explosion of the engine. Sometimes when you have big bore kits the cylinder can crack. I think in google there is a better description :) Cheers✌🏻
