I’ve got a 93 xt 350 that I’m looking into restoring so I’m beyond happy to see this series you’re doing. You wouldn’t have a source for plastics would you? My left side cover broke off with the previous owner.

Im about to attempt a valve cover gasket replacement. I have oil dripping from that gasket currently. I believe its just 4 head bolts to remove it but I was curious, is there any special step to take to ensure the new gasket is seated and any tips? I never see that gasket getting put back on in videos. Thanks
@MrYammi5 ай бұрын
The exchange is actually quite simple. The only important thing is to take a new gasket and lightly coat the recess for the camshafts with engine sealing paste, but only thinly. The rest does not require sealing paste

How did you manage to sort out and find all the rubber seals? Do you have the service manual at hand, and does it have all the tolerances for each part? I have done a cosmetic restoration on a XT 250 and I'm looking into restoring the engine, which is the same as the 350, but every time I go looking for the parts I get lost.
@MrYammi Жыл бұрын
I found some information about the dimensions on the Internet. The Dutch online shop cmsnl.com was also helpful. Otherwise, I simply measured the old seals. A few were only available from Yamaha because of the unusual sizes. You'll definitely need the Clymer Repair Manual. And yes, I spent a lot of time trying to find the parts on the internet....
@NtaksAKAKevin Жыл бұрын
@@MrYammi I see, thank you! I do have Yamaha's original shop manual, but I think I need to print it in paper form, as it is not convenient having to open it on my phone while working on the bike. However, I can't wait to have it up and running again. I think I will disassemble the top end and the piston, so I can see if they are salvageable. If a lot of damage has been done, I think Im going to try and find a good condition used motor, and keep the broken one as a spare. The main issue that my current motor has is that it's really hard to get started, and it leaks oil from near the exhaust

Got any advice on things to change for hard starting? Its not the carbs or the valves. I have the single carb upgrade kit from Australia and have just checked the valves. Once running it runs just fine
@MrYammi Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, unfortunately, I can't give you any advice from a distance. In any case, it is very important that the carburetor is adjusted properly. The intake manifolds also tend to break down, even if you don't see it on the outside.
@philh7219 Жыл бұрын
@@MrYammi the carb isn't the issue I have a non booted carb kit, with a single carb. The issue is only with starting. I was thinking maybe something causing a weak spark or maybe the kick has some teeth missing
@MrYammi Жыл бұрын
@@philh7219 There are unfortunately so many possibilities...otherwise check the kickstarter, you only have to remove the side cover. What about the auto-decompression?

Very nice work here. I have a 350 as well and yesterday it suddenly lost power whilst driving 120 km/h. Had to move to the emergency lane. There the engine further stalled while making horrible rattling noises in the process. After that I wasn’t able to get it started again and I don’t feel any compression anymore. I haven’t been able to open the engine yet, but I suspect something with the cam chain or valves went horribly wrong.

Hi. I just bought a xt350 from 1990. All original state. Just did the fork, carburator, oil and filters. It has been sitting in a garage for at least 4 years. One problem still is the compression release. I hoped to see you rebuild the system but i cant find that moment. Mine doesn't work. I think something is broken in the engine near the kickstarter.
@MrYammi5 ай бұрын
Hi, did you check the kickstarter shaft? It tends to break and is available as a spare part.Simply remove the clutch cover and check
@arjanvaneeden5 ай бұрын
@@MrYammi the kickstarter works fine. Only does the xt kick back because i think the compression release is broken.
@MrYammi5 ай бұрын
Maybe it just needs to be adjusted correctly. However, it may also be that the clutch cover was removed and the compression lever was not correctly aligned during assembly. I already had it too.
@arjanvaneeden5 ай бұрын
@@MrYammi when I kickstart the little lever doesn't move. So i thing then te alignment. I'll remove the Carter to see

I have a TT 350, where the motor is broken, so I have replaced the motor with the XT 350 motor. But after the XT motor is a 12v and the Electronic on the TT is 6v. I was then thinking if it would be possible to replace XT 12v with the 6v from the TT motor. Would that be possible?? Any thoughts?
@MrYammi Жыл бұрын
I am sorry but i have no experience with it. But i think it might be possible. Perhaps you look at cmsnl.com There, you can compare the parts between the xt and the tt. Most of the engine parts are the same, i think.
