My XT 500 was in storage for 20+ years. Fresh gas and a little Startron, it started 2nd kick! 😊

It sure did make some smoke! Well done. I love your approach and unedited vid. Can't wait to see some more. It felt a fitting tribute to the young man no longer with us, who used to ride the bike. He was surely with you all the way in spirit..

Just in the last 5 weeks l have aquired my first and second XT500's. #1 bike, a '79, looks like hell and runs like a bat outta hell. Hoping to get #2 bike, a '78 that looks pretty nice, up and going in the next few weeks.

You should maybe think about getting an ultrasonic cleaner, they work very well.

We do have one now! I will actually be using it tomorrow! Haha

It would be cool to see the TT500 and XT500 come back to its former glory.

Nice find, a few tips. Xt or tt dont like throttle and will kick back at the first sign of too much fuel. If you flood the motor, switch off the fuel hold the decompression lever in , hold the throttle open and kick it 6 times. This will clear the barrel and will get you to a level air mixture in the barrel. It sounds like the points or timing is out and the pilot jet is blocked so just a few things to make sure there good. A well set up xt or tt will fire 1st or 2nd kick even being left for 6 months. I have about 19 of these cracking bikes and restore them but good luck , if you get stuck just ask.

Thanks for the advice! Now that we know it'll run, I'm going to order a carb rebuild kit, points, and a battery. Those should all help a lot I would think.

Everybody wants a 1976 XT500, they are worth the most of all model years, it does still need some TLC
@LambvinskisGarage Жыл бұрын
Yup, I think they're the only year for the down pipe? It needed some love, but we did get it running! It has a new home now though!
@markdelichte5401 Жыл бұрын
You've got it running good for you. It's a good thing to check your points and condenser and make sure the timing is dead on. So you don't get kicked

It was a kickstart indicator window.
@LambvinskisGarage Жыл бұрын
Yes! But 76 Models didn't have them unfortunately.
@andymoore683 Жыл бұрын
The kick-start indicator window is only for people who can't find tdc without. You will hurt your self kicking it at any old place in the cycle. Turn the engine over until you get to the compression point. Pull in the decompressor. Turn the engine over a further 60 degrees. Release the decompressor and give it a mighty wallop. The xt500 does not need a battery to start. Good luck

Nice to see another XT revived....I had a '77 and rode it xc from Pa to points out west in '78 and returned to Pa 5 months later. Loved it and should never let it go. There's another place to drain the oil underneath the bike, looks like an oil pan with a drain plug..but be careful reinstalling the plug, over tightening will break the pan (made out of the best japanesium). Now you can also drop the whole pan and there is a screen to clean and there's another hidden screen built into the downtube of the frame. I ran a Supertrapp pipe and loved it. When in California, I was turned onto White Bros in Garden Grove and they specialized in TT's and XT...great candy store..lol. They sold an oil temp gauge that replaced the stock dip stick...highest temp I ever saw was 320 deg..lol

There's a bottom cover that has a oil screen in it that needs cleaning to when changing the oil and a bleeding screw also.

@@TimA-z9y yes! I realized that after the fact, but it got done before I sold the bike.

I have a sr540 race bike, fun to watch you kicking, know how it is, had to build a handheld starter. A whole lot easer.
