Well, that was something a bit different! Any recommendations for future bike builds? Or just different genres completely?

If you enjoyed the bike, the Tamiya sport bikes are great. The 99 Yamaha YZF R1 is a nice classic one that can often be found for a good price. More recent kits have really stepped up the detail as well but will run a bit more.

Thanks Scott. I think I will definitely get one in the new year

I seen this kit today in hobby craft for £17 pound. I have not done a bike before. So I left it haha. Like the gem thingy you put in the lights very cleaver idea.

It's a bargain of a kit and it was my first bike as well. I'd recommend it if you want to build something different

Do use the sharpies on the inside or outside of the lights? Awesome job.

It depends but usually the outside as the insides often have lots of ridges. Many thanks

During the lockdown built a POLICE DUCATI by Tamiya. excellent model, just need to take your time and i used Tamiya laquer paints for airbrushing, very pleased with them and overall a very enjoyable model to make.

I knew you'd like it :) newer Tamiya bike kits come with a small magnetic scewdriver, also the instructions generally have the tubing measurements laid out for you, I've not built that particulear bike though so not sure why it's not in those instructions. The exact length and 1/1 diagram of exact screws needed are generally present on the instructions. Model came out brilliantly, well done for first bike kit
@BOABModels3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, Sarah Jane. No screwdriver in here but at least I have my own. There were measurements for the cable but I found some of them were a bit too precise, especially the one which needed to be tied in a knot.
@Cerbera822 жыл бұрын
I just finished this kit. One thing to note is the metalised sprue and parts on it should be handled with gloves. I had finger prints on the parts and if you wipe it with anything at all the finish will be damaged. I used to operate a plastic metaliser so should have known better. Ah well, ill just say i added some weathering to it if anyone asks! Edit- nice build by the way. looks better than mine.

I'd love it if you took on Revells Routemaster. Would keep you busy for a while.

Haha that's true. The issue of where to put it once finished has stopped me from getting one but I do like the look of it.

That's not a bad first bike build, Thomas. You've got it spot on. I like the way you handled the gold accents. The Ducati 916 from Tamiya is also a great build if you can get one.

Many thanks, Gustavo. I've had a few recommendations about bikes since making this so I will probably pick one up in the new year.

Lovely build Thomas for a first bike! I applaud you👏 looked a bit easier than the Aoshima Honda 400/F that I built last year. (Used to own one in my youth!)
@BOABModels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, Paul. Nice that you were able to recreate something you had owned. I'd heard Tamiya bike kits were considered the best and I was very happy with how this went together.

Looks so good - what did you think of the bike build, I really enjoyed it and want to get more. The Virago was a great entry, you did yours beautifully. I also struggled with those 2 parts that go between the engines.
@BOABModels3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks - did enjoy it but I found it quite different and some bits needed a lot of time to get right, like the bit between the engine.
@allanlowe93463 жыл бұрын
Great build Thomas and most enjoyable to follow you through the process. You've wetted my appetite to also have a go at a bike, and have just received the Tamiya Kawasaki Ninja H2R kit to try my first bike also. Fiddly bits and such fine painting are a bit daunting. I think it was a 3/0 brush you used for the very fine paint work?
@BOABModels3 жыл бұрын
I think you're right about the brush. I showed the number, didn't I? 😅 Good luck with the Kawasaki. I like sports bikes but I went with this one as I knew there would be fewer paints and decals needed!
@autostradamacchina3 жыл бұрын
Looks great mate, is this setting you up for more bike builds in the future? What did you think? You should also try one of the Ducati 1199 versions or the R1M bike, very enjoyable builds too
@BOABModels3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, mate. I think so - certainly more than previously as I hadn't had any interest at all! Thanks for the suggestion - I've had a few racing bikes suggested by people.
