Wow... I've had this bike for two years now, I wish I would have seen this video when I bought it. Can't tell you how many curse words the poor bike has heard from me because of my frustration starting it. Starts right up every time now haha. Thank you!

Keep in mind they analyzed it like crazy and carburetors can be a pain too.

There is a trick to starting late model YZ450's that have an automatic compression release. The compression release is activated by a weighted mechanism on the face of the cam gear. When the cam gear is rotating below approximately 750 rpm, springs acting on the weight hold it at rest and the compression release is in it's activated state (releasing compression). When the rpm raises above 750, the rotational forces acting on the weight overcome the force of the springs, the weights move outward, deactivating the compression release. Kicking too hard / too fast, spins the cam gear faster than 750 rpm, deactivating the compression release before it has a chance to help the bike start, making the bike harder to start. A long, consistent kick is better. The harder you kick, the more you work against yourself.

That's strange. I did actually sell it and get a TTR250. I got the knack after a bit on the WR but I was using the bike to commute on and the maintenance was getting on my nerves, I was changing the oil every two weeks. I would say my uncorked TTR has about the same power as a corked up WR, I never bothered taking the restrictors out, only the throttle stop screw was changed out.

i dont think ive ever seen anyone crash and get up and take a deep breath and take four minutes to find the ''sweet spot'' to kick their engine over

I need to know how to cold start my 2004 wr250f, it doesn't have elctric start for some reason.
@Mr440exer12 жыл бұрын
ya thanks for the info, i was just telling that person that when its cold out air molucules are closer together so that means the air has more oxygen in it
@RFR92b12 жыл бұрын
@ortafunk i wouldnt say that, there are more benefits with the fuel injection, easier to tune, and set up for motocross, and i konw on the 2012 kawi's they have different plugs u can buy to change the mapping which is nice. more efficient as well i think. i cant believe its taken this long to get fuel injection on bikes.

thats a good point but when theres fuel in the bowl and you go to start the bike truck etc...it will just keep dumping fuel when that happens to me i have to lay my bike over and wait till all the fuel dumps out its a pain in the ass
@MateuszRa11 жыл бұрын
you need to turn throttle 3-4 times,kick 3 times with pressed decompresation leaver and kick like this guy on the movie.

what the heck is that weighted shaft for in front of the crankshaft at 1:16, new water pump design? looks like a lot of un-needed weight

hey i have a question, i just got a 2006 yz450f and i used to have a yz400f and the 400 was super hard to kick, this 450 is nothing compared to that 400 is that normal?
@keithperkins5681 Жыл бұрын
ik this comment is 11 years old but it’s because the 400s didn’t have a compression release

I just bought a 2012 yz450f. I have never rode the bike, only test start. Pulling it off the showroom floor it took over 15 kicks to start. I did everything this video said! -__- I guess this only works after the engine is broken in. 1 to 2 kicks my ass ahaha

Haha, sucks to own a 4 stroke! In the winter when it's -25 outside all I gotta do on my yz 125 is put the choke on give it 4 pumps of throttle, one kick stoke, them kick it hard and it WILL start 1st time every time. Or I can go no choke, no throttle and kick 2-3 times and it will start.

or if you don't feel like kicking the shit out of it and giving it full throttle on the rev limiter for about 10 seconds.. pull the choke out make sure the gas is on (and its got new gas in it)((not last years gas) put it in first gear and find a hill runn down it with the clutch in and when ur on the bike and going about 10kph let the clutch out and the bike will turn on with little to no effort.
@tidepods31825 жыл бұрын

@Mr440exer12 жыл бұрын
ya no shit man. the 400 had to have a decompression release used. My '02 yz250f had one but I cammed it. Which eliminated me using the decompression release which is a bitch, It fires up first kick every time when warm, two kicks when its 60 degrees and below.

kick the shit out of it then give it full throttle and run it on the rev limiter for about 10 seconds to allow the piston ring to warm and so that gas doesn't clog the valves hope this help have fun ridding

@geraldburns379211 жыл бұрын
Im not a big fan of this fuel injection system at all. I mean its cool and all, but I just see problems happening, and us riders like reliable machines that are easy to work on, all it takes is the voltage regulator or wire to get a short in it and its gonna send weak signals not giving you the gas you need or not giving you gas at all, meaning your bike wont run, so yea I'm not a big fan of that at all.

Everything is. Buy a new corvette, a new camaro, a new mustang, whatever you want, its controlled by a computer. Why? Because the computer is smarter than you and knows what the bike needs
