I own ZG01 but not own PS5. I believe you can plug TRRS AUX cable from AUX port in front of ZG01 and plug it to PS5 controller. I use TRRS AUX cable plug into my phone and then ZG01 will act like headset device for my phone. For 7.1 surround sound ZG01 support 7.1 input from USB port but you need to config ZG01 audio channels on Windows, change it from Stereo to 7.1 Surround. I watch blu-ray on Windows and ZG01 7.1 Surround working great. Anyway, thank you for your great review!

Generally speaking the HDMI standard does actually support bi-directional data transmission, this is known as ARC (Audio Return Channel) & eARC (Extended Audio Return Channel). This is how you can hook up a soundbar or AV receiver to a TV and get audio from other devices plugged directly into the TV to come back through with just an HDMI cable, negating the need to run separate audio cables back from the TV or other devices to the soundbar or AV receiver. So sending MIC audio back through to the PS5 (or other consoles) via a mixer like this would technically be possible, just neither device supports ARC in order to do it. Even if the ZG01 supported ARC, the PS5 doesn't so it'd be on Sony in that scenario. Just that ARC is not widely used / supported outside of home theater systems & TV's so it's not surprising it isn't implemented here, would be neat though.

So will the true surround sound not work at all if you are using display port connection? It seems like there is no way to use this thing with true 7.1 unless I decide to give up 240hz and use a HDMI.

Thanks for the vid. Have you tested 1440p 120 completely and looked on your monitor settings/stats? Others have said its 60z only in 4K and 2K but I don't know if there's firmware a update. Could you Y cable out of the PS5 controller to the mixer for mic? Its how I run it on Goxlr line in line out and I use my XLR mic for XBOX I really don't know a mixer company would get around making xbox and PlayStation chat work since its only USB and controller out. I would assume they would have to pay licensing/security fees to re route it through usb.

Yes I have! And yeah I have seen from other reviews that ppl claim that it maxes at 60fps regardless of resolution but that is untrue. I played at 1440p at 120fps with no issues and I was able to get HDR without restrictions. Only when you play at 4k resolution will you be limited to 60fps. And regarding the Mic question. No that would not work because the XLR and Aux ports for the Mic are "inputs" NOT outputs. So there would be no way for sound to be routed back to the PS5. My personal recommendation to use Voicemeter as it is free and offers a lot more usability than physical gaming mixers. I made a video on it on my channel! :)

@@MathewTheBest Thanks for the response on the 1440p Im not sure how voice meter would help the console situation. I suppose if you are using a usb mic on pc that would be what you want to use. I have a GoXlr and it has line in and outs. And is what I use for xbox chat/audio threw a splitter that uses my xlr mic. Works the same on PS5 ans the routing tables/mixer is much easier then Vmeter. Looks like a Mini goxlr for much cheaper is the way to for console creators still.

​@@MathewTheBest The AUX / Phone is actually a combined input/output, so you CAN use it. You need to use a 4-pole 3,5mm cable, that way you can use it with Discord on a phone etc. This is also how you use the ZG01 without a PC. Just connect the USB 5v power, then use the AUX to your phone. The AUX volume level is then adjusted from the Voice knob. I'm not sure if it works via the PS5 controller, but I assume that one also uses a 4-pin 3,5mm so you should be able to use it like that as well. I don't have a PS5 to test with however, so I can't confirm.

Thank You! As a console streamer I was looking at this device. I stream on the X-Box Series X and I use the Elgato HD60X. I can game on my PC, but I choose not to, and I don't use discord. I was extremely excited about this product because of the HDMI ports and being able to bring the game directly into the Yamaha ZG101. I use the Elgato Chat link so that my stream can hear my game chat, and I was hoping this device would allow that without the chat link. Once again, I am disappointed. How hard is it for these companies to make a product that connects directly to you console that controls all your game and chat audio? Then make it so you can route that audio into your streaming PC through your capture device and then to your audience. I have yet to find a device, not an app, that can do this. If you know of one I would love to know which one it is. I can tell you now it's not the GO XLR or Rode Caster Duo. I have tried both. Next for me is the RodeX.

The one thing you haven't mentioned is whether the preamps are good or not. I have a dynamic mic Shure MV7, wanna know can this audio interface/mixer output the good mic voice quality

The two knobs on the top right adjust whatever you have those two specifically assigned to. The large knob on the right is the master knob that turns all volume down or up.

I am confused. You say it doesnt work without a PC, but then you say it doesnt work via USB without a PC. But if you connect your Console via HDMI it works without a PC. You can even use Voice Chat by judt connecting a Smartphone with Discord to the TRRS Port. So to say its not standalone is simply wrong.

Overall I like your video, but I disagree with statement that you can't talk back to ps5 players using this device and it's a drawback. It's Sony here to blame and not Yamaha. This is just a console specific thing, I don't know a mixer or audio device that can be used to talk to console players, do you?

So I use the Astro MixAmp currently and I have always been able to talk back to PS5/PS4 party chat or game chat. Its not exactly a PS5 problem either. Since this device achieves SS through the HDMI cables without considering another way to communicate back to the PS5 (maybe through another USB connection) this is the problem I have. Also, with the price point of this device, being released in 2022 and being marketed as an all round solution, I kinda expected more.

@@vanyathespark Sorry let me correct that. The Astro MixAmp could either be plugged into your console or PC but your mic input can only go to one or the other not both. Meanwhile you can hear audio from both sources. However if you are trying to use one mic to talk to both console chat and PC chat then I highly recommend you watch this video of mine below.
