The flashbacks to the past showing the old conflict and the sheer brutality of it all really drives home how this long war has been one of extermination, brutal on all sides and I'm sure that's what Uryu is reading as this battle rages. Soul Society has a penchant for rose tinted history yet survivors of their opposition sure know of them all too well.

this was by far the best episode I could ever ask for. With me playing bleach braves souls and having this unit. It really does show how broken he truly is. That unbelievable unstoppable inconceivable power. Think about it. that entire fight wasn't pointless. It was to show you what WOULD'VE happened. And seeing the GOAT himself, aizen? I literally couldn't ask for more. Like, i'mma watch this every day. Several times.

Yhwach seems to be really afraid of yamaji... The entire point of the first two invasions was to emotionally, mentally and physically break yama.... In the first invasion, over a 100 members of squad 1 were killed, including sasakibe, which deeply affects yamaji, makes him full of guilt and regret, breaking him mentally and emotionally... We see the result of it in the second invasion when yama rushes to the front line due to his clouded judgement, and moment he sees yhwach, he makes a swing with shikai, and then straight up goes to bankai...and uses every single ability, to kill yhwach as brutally as possible, and make him feel the pain that yama felt sasakibe died by suing South... Yamaji had constantly try to suppress his power in bankai as it was about to destroy soul society.... When yamaji turns off his bankai, it was pretty obvious that he was tired, basically now along with being emotionally and mentally, now yamaji is broken physically as well... At last, yhwach blows up 1st company barracks and appears in front of yama, putting yama in state of shock and then he steals his bankai. yhwach had to plan for centuries to beat yama. What an absolute beast.

Absolutely amazing episode: the animation was fantastic (I'd consider it the same tier as opening to Hell Verse), the sound when old man Yama was stepping forward after activating South was amazing (sounded wet like that floor instantly turned molten), got to see Aizen, seeing Chojiro when old man Yama attacked was nice (makes you realise how much he appreciates Chojiro), the reveal at the end was executed amazingly. Also, Retro Ryno (Ryan) animated in this episode as well, guy made fantastic bleach fan animations and it's great to see him animate on the best episode yet.

I still stand on the fact that Yama fought and especially wasted the majesty of his bankai on a doppelgänger only to be finished off so easily by the real one after the fact was hugely disappointing.

Disappointed how? Yama thought he was fighting Yhwach and proceed to kill him off quick. He was already tired. So no shit that the real Yhwach finished him off easily especially when his Bankai was stolen, he was tired and only has one arm. You're disappointed on something that you completely ignored the full context simply because the fight doesn't go the way you want it to be.

He basically wasted his own energy showing off his bankai and being his arrogant self. And he is arrogant in his power as seen throughout the anime. It was a cool fight and then the fake dude died. Was disappointing he wasted his energy when he didn't have to whatsoever just to die helpless and quick afterward. He was arrogant and showed off when he never needed to which left him weak and useless. As for his arm, it could have been healed at any time by Orihime as we've seen her do before. The fact that you find out he was fighting a clone basically and the real deal just cuts him down was disappointing imo not his death in general. Oh, and Soifon was seen sporting 2 arms when she lost one during the fake karakura arc as well as Kurotsuchi being able to create organs and who knows what else. Him not having 2 arms still is his own fault.

Yhwach survived through that shit for 1000 years and came back killed off a lot of shinigami on Soul Society. Yamamoto wanted to kill Yhwach now and not to repeat the same mistake so he went full out. How the hell can you say that he didn't have to do all that when you completely failed to understand the context of the battle itself? And now, Orihime couldn't healed his arm because he doesn't want to. Seriously, wth are you even on about? The fight was really good. I always try to accept CGI since it is more practical to use than drawing. But some scenes were quite jarring and reminded me of berserk 2017. Especially that scene where the camera rotated from foot of yhwach to a different angle. And also one scene where they show yama's face which was fully CGI. I don't get the reason why that particular scene was full CGI when it could have been animated normally. But I don't have any concerns with the skeletons. They were done really well

It seems pretty obvious to me that the shinigami standing above Yhwach in that flashback was Sasakibe. I don’t think it has any more significance to that scene other than to illustrate that he has always been Yamamoto’s right hand man. I don’t this is an indicator that we well get anymore flashbacks specifically.
