I have the standard 350 scale model of the Yamato, and this is much more detailed. But I do not like that the hull is in two pieces. I read that it is not easy to glue them together without sanding first. I do not know why they could not have made it one piece hull.
@JeffPKamenRider4 жыл бұрын
John Gialanella jr Yes, big gap to fill up after you’ve joined the hull! But I enjoyed a challenging model. I understand this premium edition is quite reminiscent to the real Contruction steps of the vessel. At least the turrets and some parts of the hulk.

Most model shops carry reasonably good model kit glues. I use various types from Tamiya, they are pretty good. Make sure you ventilate your room though. As with metal photo etch parts - super glue with accelerator.

How hard was the copper railing to work with ? Planning to get the copper rails for my Yamato as well. And also how to you paint her ones along the side of the deck? Do you use a brush ?
@JeffPKamenRider4 жыл бұрын
Bardock SSJ3 It’s not very hard. Just needs a lot (and I mean a lot) of patience. I masked the surrounding rest and spray painted the railing at the beginning of the project, which I regretted cos many were damaged accidentally as the project proceeded.
@JeffPKamenRider4 жыл бұрын
And yes, I broke a few 0.3mm drill bit in the process. Can be quite expensive.
@belfast48934 жыл бұрын
Jeff P huh that gotta suck. I did broke 3 drills when doing my Vangaurd model. Don’t think I wanna break another drill anytime soon. But do you think I should add the railings before I add any of the super structure as instructed in the manual or should I add the railings after the model is done ? Also about painting...I am also thinking of painting the rails before applying, should I just paint the coil of copper first before attaching them to the photoetch handles ?
@madedharmadetta37974 жыл бұрын
Hi Bardock, it would be tough to paint the copper and then threading it through the rail bars, as the thickness of the copper wire will increase.. Not to mention that you’ll need a good metal primer to make sure no paint would be chipped off during the process. What I did was installing them fully on the ship, and then continue with the primer and the proper paint.
@belfast48934 жыл бұрын
Made Dharmadetta heh too late. I am already done with my Yamato. But yeah what I did was similar. Attach all the railings, the spray paint it.

If you’d like to try the tamiya railings like mine, then you’d need lots and lots of patience drilling the thousand of holes. And standby a few 0.3mm drill bits cos you will break a few, they are not cheap though.

Hi, great built! I'm ordering the same kit and planning my built. For the railings, what sequence would you suggest in hindsight? Do them near last (so you don't break them), glue, then mask the deck, prime and spray paint?
@JeffPKamenRider3 жыл бұрын
I made the mistake of completing the railings in the early stage because I wanted to spray paint the hull and the railing together at the early stage. Towards the second half of the building, I damaged lots of the railings. The general sequence is to built from inside towards outside. And bottom towards the top. Hence the railings should be at the end.

When I realised it was already many weeks away and the bin has been cleared. Till this day I still knock my head about this silly mistake. I always put on the chrysanthemum crest on the ship as the last thing to do, it’s like really christening the ships.

Hi I really like your video and model ships! May I ask what you used and how you display them on the wall at 2:43? I would like to do the same but I am not sure what you used or how you attached it to the wall. Thank you!
@JeffPKamenRider3 жыл бұрын
I bought those transparent name stands (made of acrylic) from stationary shop and secure it onto the wall with screws (although double side tapes might work but I’d rather not risk it). You can make any platform with any materials though. The biggest issue with this way of display is dust - somehow they gets into everywhere, especially on your rigging, which is quite troublesome to clean.
@Adler1945ja6 жыл бұрын
How much time did you spend to build this?
@JeffPKamenRider6 жыл бұрын
I spend half to an hour a day when I work on it. Sometimes with breaks in between - all in all I took about 3 months to complete. The most time consuming part is drilling the thousands of 0.3mm holes and inserting the handrail stanchions. I broke a few 0.3mm drills and had to wait to buy a replacement.
@Adler1945ja6 жыл бұрын
One hand drail rails is enough for yamato?
@JeffPKamenRider6 жыл бұрын
You can buy the handrail stanchion set from Tamiya. It’s specially made for Yamato. But it is very very very time consuming. You have to drill the thousands of 0.3mm holes, then Super glue them in, and run the wire through after.
@moitoi40646 жыл бұрын
KickAss Peng hello, is the wire included in the stanchion kit?
@JeffPKamenRider6 жыл бұрын
moi toi - yes it is included and used in this project but I find it too soft. I would recommend those that are stiffer but very fine wire.
@wrathofatlantis23162 жыл бұрын
That separate front Hull joint is among the most nightmarish modelling experiences of my life... It runs across plates near a lot of details, but the worst part is that it is the apex of an irregular compound curve, instead of being in a nearby flatter area... And none of the curves match, vertically or horizontally... Given a shaving light angle, the joint will always show up short of re-plating the entire thing... Or erasing the plating completely... Because of the tiny scale, any replating is really quite difficult or impractical.
