Good to hear that the used market is also effed up in the US and not only here in Germany. Prices are currently about 1,5 - 2,5k higher than they have been before the pandemic. Some 3-4 year old models are sold with 15k kilometers on them for about the same what the current model costs new - Ducati Supersport S, I'm looking at ya.

Opps. My father in-law 84 years old has an FJR simi automatic 2006 (bought in this country) and It's great fun. What I think I like the most is the way it takes turns. What I dislike is the way it takes turns with a passenger. If you ride it fairly hard and shift quickly it's great . With a passenger if you take that extra second to lay back on the throttle the clutch releases then slaps back in, making you feel like a Noob. In 2005 we all went to Sturgis we test road everything we could. My wife had only been riding for a little more than 2 years and didn't feel comfortable ridding different bikes (she's only 5-1) and I've had to make adjustments in a few bikes over the last 21 years. They let us test ride 2 up so we had a ball. The turns we're smooth and transitions were perfect with that clutch lever. A friend from work was thinking about the Triumph sport turning equivalent so I called him right after the ride to tell him the FJR was his next bike and the Triumph that I had ridden an hour before was uncomfortable and could not keep up with my 2003 V-Rod. Not that I'm that great a rider maybe 125.thousand miles in my 69 years, but my father-in-law is, 100-thousand-mile pin in 1957 and still riding. I agree with you on the FJR it's a good choice maybe great. Just would not opt for the auto. I will recommend your videos to any young people that ask me about starter or second bikes.

Just sold my fz1 and I’m already looking at getting another one. Personally the first gen is way more rounded and comfortable in my opinion. I would hit the tail of the dragon and highway stretches on weekends and then commute during weekdays. It would dust most 600s and do so with an upright seating position. However if you have a 1st gen Ivan’s jet kit is a must and if you have a 2nd gen Ivan’s tune is good. Stock is good but you really do get a few horses out of a good tune and pipe. I put 60,000 miles on mine and I didn’t have a single issue other than standard maintenance. I checked the valves twice in that time period and they didn’t change once. When it comes to weight, You honestly only feel it in the sharp ,sharp, corners but day to day one of the best bikes ever. Best 3300 dollars I ever spent.

Ivan is the man. What he does with z1000s (especially the 3rd gen with that hotter intake cam) is amazing for a flash tune done through the mail. You can tell he puts a lot of RnD into his tunes. And if you know how to talk to New Yorkers he’s a pretty good guy too lol

I’m 48 and I’ve been riding for about 30 years. I’ve never owned a liter bike until recently when I bought a 2004 R1. It kills my wrists and is so uncomfortable to put miles on yet I can’t get rid of it. The pull is addictive. I keep looking for bikes to replace it with but I can’t lose that insane acceleration. I want to sell it and get a MT09 or XSR900. I just don’t wanna lose that ecstasy inducing pull.

FZ1 is my dreams come true. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out. They should cost 2x for what you get. Mindboggling. Cheap cheap cheap. Way more horsepowers than any reasonable person needs, i.e. the perfect amount. Comfortable riding for miles and miles. Front wheel can come off the ground if so desired, and if not careful even when not intended (sorry mr. Occifer). Flickable in the twisties. I DD it to work every day weather permits... rushing out the door to get to work like a kid headed to Disney. This bike changes lives. Can confirm.

@@pleasedontwatchthese9593 It honestly comes down to preference. In my opinion, the gsxr is way more comfortable to be on riding around the city or on longer road trips, but still has that aggressive track riding position. I own a 2009 FJR1300A. Paid 9k for it last year. with 30k miles but practically mint condition and added bonuses in terms of heated grips, fresh tires, reinforced subframe, original rear case with a back rest for a second passenger and sliders installed. If you want a reliable bike to travel long distances, you would be hard pressed to find a better option. 5 gears is not a problem really. The new 6th is geared only 6.5% higher than the old 5th, and I am not sure that a top end difference of 164mph vs 174mph is a deal breaker, especially if new gearboxes suffered a little in terms of reliability, resulting in several recall campaigns (iirc).

@iskinmind7020
@iskinmind7020 2 жыл бұрын
@@gerryger1731 Hi. Most reliable option is to buy a serviced and checked bike from a reputable dealer. If, like me, you have limited options in that regard, first things I would look for are cracks in the rear subframe (one of the more major issues), where top case is installed. You have to remove the rear seat to inspect it. Search forums on how to check for bad wiring and if there are any current leaks - this might cost you a penny to redo everything. Put it on a central stand and lift front fork and wheel from the ground to check another weak spot - an internal tube of the fork sometime breaks and if your front wheel bends a little sideways when lifted, that means you need to replace the entire assembly. Check if second gear works correctly and engages every time, but problems with this are rare on 2008-2012 models. These are the expensive items to fix if something is wrong. The rest is more or less the usual, unless you are planning to split the engine to inspect it fully - check for scratches and bumps, if you have the original tool set (a sign that the bike was taken care of and a unique spark plug tool). Fully service your bike after you bought it, even if your dealer told you it was done. That is basically all that comes to mind. Overall a great machine. Heavier than I thought, but manageable. Extremely stable at any speed, plenty of power to spare at any revs. 140mph, 2 up, with luggage and all cases installed - no problem. Does get a little hot when idling and in traffic and switches cooling fans on. But that is normal, though a little uncomfortable in the summer heat in a traffic jam. Comfy for my 5'10 (177cm) height.

@@iskinmind7020 Hi thank you so much for the great detailed list! I had an 86 fj1200 and remember those had 2nd gear problems too. I also had an 86 v65 Sabre that had 2nd gears and I think 4th gear to watch for and I don't remember if my 97 vmax had gear stuff. Now I gotta read up on why they all had 2nd gear stuff as I don't remember.hahaha The frame and the fork I'll do your advice to check. Bike is at a dealer and 50/50 warranty for 30 days(serviced by them though. I pay half parts and labor so it actually isnt really good but who knows). Low miles at a decent price and 10 miles from home so that is a giant bonus. I just gotta pull the trigger and not buy the 125cc honda monkey which for some reason I want to take on a giant coast to coast to coast tour. I took an 04 or 05 fjr for a test drive with 120,000 miles on it last year and can not believe I didn't buy it just for the heck of it. $800 but he had to pay off loan to clear title and was getting divorced and his wife was there when i was checking it out and lots of drama and my luck i wouldnt have gotten the title. So I said no thanks. I am 5'9" so that is another plus from your knowledge. Thanks again and be safe!

All the hate for kawi 650’s is understandable. Kawasaki, why is it so hard to add an overdrive gear into your cheap adv, and maybe another 10 hp at the very least. Would have been so great and still bloody cheap.

I actually managed to find an 04 hayabusa with only 20K miles for $5,000! It used to be a show bike so it’s got all the Busa Boy chrome you could ever ask for, and even came with the all-essential braided steel brake lines. For all of our fellow degenerate Busa boys at heart, keep your eyes peeled. The right Busa is out there, waiting for you.

Great list of finisher bikes. As a person ages something like that FJR1300 would be just about as perfect as an experienced rider could imagine without going to a car on two wheels. As a younger rider the Gixxers 750 or 1000 would be about as good as it gets for my tastes.

I'm confused by "finisher bike" for $7k. That's first bike price. Finisher bike to me means what you buy when $$$ aren't the limit and you are over the squid stage and now you just want to enjoy the ride. Mine is the Triumph Rocket 3 Storm GT. Enough power to be super fun, but also very comfortable.
